test server of a paid-only alpha, for which they need to "invest" $1k in to access.
By pointing out that the 30K reduction has been overshadowed by the terrible state of the desynch.

Most players would trade 30k's for desynch. Desynch is really only a big issue for pvp. So if you want to do pvp, now is not a good time to try out SC.

You don't need to be concierge to access the 1st wave PTU, a one off $10 subscription gets you in these days.So many "new" Youtubers suddenly have access to the PTU and make polished videos about how overwhelmingly positive their Orison experience is, right after it was made available to the PTU.
What a shocking coincidence that so many people have come across the test server of a paid-only alpha, for which they need to "invest" $1k in to access.
Marketing dollars at work.

or $10 to access.
If it was just $10 to get access to a separate test environment, I’d be tempted to get it… assuming I bought into SC again, of course. I’ve always believed it’s my responsibility to test my particular combination of hardware, drivers, and software prior to a major update.a one off $10 subscription gets you in.![]()
Ever ended up being on the run for 4hrs with an eventual CS level 5 after your mate ran somone over at an outpost because that guy gave you the finger?![]()
Interesting… salvaging wrecks for materials for assembly, repair, production, or trade has been in Space Engineers pretty much since it was in Alpha. Maybe in another 10 years, Star Citizen will be able to catch up.Something I wasn't aware it was possible, don't know if it's new. You can put all scrap metals from derelict missions in your cargo and transport them. I though they were only local objects with no real existence but in fact they are all real entities managed by the server. For now, it's of no use to collect them, you can't sell them. Technically, there is enough here to make a T0 salvage mechanism if CIG choose the simplest way to do it. It just lack the possibility to sell the scrap on the cargo's grid at a terminal, which exist already for boxes you find in derelict.

No you haven't seen it. You just have seen static screenshots or compressed youtube videos.
killminster was asking news about the game, not about the ethics of CIG.
Still as ridiculous and scammy as ever? Or any real progress?
Not ready for release because incomplete alpha, not even a beta. And especially surprising that those ED players enjoy it it so much when it is only an incomplete alpha. Pretty weird no ? An incomplete alpha giving so much pleasure. What will it be like when the refueling and salvage mechanisms will be here... or when we'll have our personnal hangar and flat in the PU.
A bit of tin foil hatting going on there I suspect...but...OK. I already agreed it was a marketing tacticMy apologies, only need a $10 (a month, presumably?) subscription for access to the test server of a paid-for alpha game. The game is extra, if anyone was curious. All monies go into developing the game.
I'm sure that Youtuber that started posting videos 3 days ago and already has 5 videos up, exclusively about SC, is just a gamer that paid to gain access.
I'm trying to understand what the recent "Look!! Another ED player playing SC!" is supposed to prove.
People give up games they have had enough of to try new ones all the time, big deal.
Is it more ED bad, SC good nonsense or what?
The subbie scheme is drop in drop out... a one off $10 or $20 sub... which quite a few folk do depending on what the included ship of the month is for that month or various subscriber perks are. There are annual or recurring subscription packages if you want or like that kind of thing, I used to pay for annual imperator subs at one point...now I do what everyone else does and just sub for a month when I feel like it. I like some of the subbie perks...especially the cosmetics. As concierge...we get naff all except for automatic wave 1 PTU access plus automatic ship of the month...it's normally a ship I already own so apart from cosmetic stuff, there's little point for me to pay out for recurring or annual subsIf it was just $10 to get access to a separate test environment, I’d be tempted to get it… assuming I bought into SC again, of course. I’ve always believed it’s my responsibility to test my particular combination of hardware, drivers, and software prior to a major update.
$10 a month? No. Just no.
SC players are taggued with a "biased/cultist opinion about the game" here. So, just pointing to review of ED players, when an ED player ask why SC, saves us a lot of time. It's always frustrating to write a long review just to read as a response, "lol, cultist ! Your opinion is crap". At least, with an ED player review, the excuse of the cultist cannot be invoked.
Like the last review of Agony_Aunt ? Explain me what you think of it, I'm curious... balanced or not ?
Oh my... a lot to unpack.
Very briefly
In 2012 CR, starting on his own site, then moving to kickstarter (as their own site collapsed under stress) said he was going to build the Best Damn Space Sim Ever (BDSSE) for 5.5 million dollars in 2-3 years. He claimed him and a small team had been hard at work for a year already prototyping stuff. This was going to be a single player game, a reimaging of Wing Commander (later called Squadron 42), which upon completion would open up into the online game (Star Citizen), a modern take on Freelancer. (side note, Freelancer was never finished by CR, Microsoft had to buy him out to protect their investment and in order to get the game shipped as CR's scope was too large and way behind schedule).
They showed off a very flashy video heavily implying a lot of work was already done. At one point, when questioned about an issue in the video, he said it was a bug which would be fixed later.

Turns out none of what they showed was actually done and the video itself was actually produced by Crytek. They had nothing they could show themselves.
They continued to rake in funds and expanded the scope, offering more and more stretch goals (there is a small aside here as they put up two votes to the community offering to continue funding and expanding the scope, during which CR repeatedly made comments that expanding the scope would not delay release - these two votes happened in 2013)

Pay attention to the quotes and the numbers voting. Of course backers voted yes overall, because who doesn't want more if it won't delay anything.
CIG were still talking about a 2014-2015 release here.
In 2014 CIG were still talking about release in 2014 with direct quotes from CR, ER, and Sandi Roberts saying that SQ42 was almost ready and SC wasn't far behind. The implication both were coming in 2015.
Backers will tell you they voted for the delay due to expanded scope. There was never an expectation set by CIG there would be a delay.
At 65 million they stopped adding stretch goals. Those themselves are worth looking at. Even assuming you have zero knowledge of game development, look at the amounts for each stretch goal vs what they are offering to add. Does anything add up? Is there any sort of consistency? Seems to me they just randomly added features to random numbers.
Anyway, at 65 million they were now offering the BDSSE++++!
Some backers will say things were effectively reset here, because the game had so radically changed from what was initially on offer. Yet SQ42 was unchanged and SC just had more stuff piled on. Backers might point to "full planets" which is indeed a change from the initial pitch (limited landing zones), yet there was a stretch goal offered to "research" full planets. So this was already known as a goal in 2013-2014. Remember, in 2014 CIG were saying it was getting close to completion.
Obviously there was no release of either SQ42 or SC in 2015, but CR is on record in 2015 saying "By the end of the year backers will receive everything they pledged for"
That was clearly a lie. Its 2021 and backers still don't have everything they pledged for. There is still no release date for SQ42 or SC. The PU is still missing many things backers pledged for, most notably 109 systems, as PU currently sits at the grand total of 1.
In fact, to date, 5 years since CR made that statement, they still haven't developed content equal to the original 5.5 million pitch. And yet, in funding they have raked in almost 100 times as much as they said they initially needed (we don't know exactly, but beetween pledges, private investments, subscriptions, and partnership deals the number is estimated at around 500 million in funds to date).
Its a history of lies, incompetence, and misleading statements by CR and CIG.
Now we hear CR is moving to the UK to help finalize the development of SQ42. Moving himself and the family is probably not a short term thing, and its not happening until next year, so we can infer from this SQ42 is not going to release in 2022 either. SC is still years away from being something they can release, even in MVP (or early access) form. They have to keep hiding behind the alpha label.
There is a lot lot more to their history, but i promised you the "short" version.
You won't hear any of this from the faithful backers. You'll hear deflections and excuses.
I haven't gone into CR's history prior to CIG, which in itself is quite fascinating "make that pixel green, not blue" or his management style, which according to Gariott and Spector (who CR used to work for), you either do things exactly as CR says, or you are out.
And if you want to learn more about the development of Star Citizen, you can always watch the Sunk Cost Galaxy series made (and still in development, although we are waiting for ages for the next part) by an ex-investor, who pulled their investment when they saw things were not going as expected.

I've read your reponse about the scammy question. But it lacks the part about the real progress because :Question : Still as ridiculous and scammy as ever? Or any real progress?
Your response : Yup, still as scammy (well, i'd say scummy) as ever.
