Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I love watching n00b content creators playing SC, especially when they don't understand the basic mechanics of how SC is broken...

"You have to crouch then quickly run away when you place a box in the machine..!"

Killed by server desync once when loading a box into the machine, the parcel machine is then blamed as a serial killer :D

I was like "what is he talking about"?

Then i saw the explanation.

Of course, there is absoloutely nothing that could go wrong with what CIG are planning here. No sireeeee....

A citizen, not content with just retconning the history of Star Citizen, attempts to retcon the history of ARPANET.

No, I understand how projects, even stupidly ambitious projects, can go.

We didn't build ARPANET in a day. It took decades, and that was just for the T0 version used to connect universities and government R&D sites.

If you understand that what CIG is doing is akin to a DARPA project in gaming (pushing the bounds of what's possible in a high risk/very high reward project) then you understand what kind of massive undertaking this sort of project is and that thinking any of this would be done in less than a decade is laughable and never ever be a project manager since you have stupidly unrealistic expectations.

Just because the tech may enable great things, you have to build those great things to use that technology.

If I had a dollar for every time someone thinks they're being witty and insightful by saying this exact same , I'd buy everyone on this sub a loving Legatus Pack...

We bought into this game because of CR. We know he's a dreamer, we knew he had big ideas and wanted to push the limit. That's what we put money towards and that's what him and his team are doing.

You can have a game that's well made, made quickly, or made cheaply. But you can only pick two. We chose "Good and cheap" and that's what we're getting, which means it will take time.

If you didn't understand that, that's on you. Those of us who understood the engineering and programming beyond the hype understood that this poo poo wasn't going to be done in 2 years. If it was, other devs would've done it before.

Half a billion and counting is apparently "cheap" :O

SC white knight shows he knows nothing about ED.

ED and NMS basically generate things to explore on the fly, little to no bespoke experiences outside of player populated areas. Certainly not investing heavily in 'immersion'. Hardly much in the way of lore.

Err... Why physics need to be involved for collision prevention, especially since stellar bodies are in fixed and easily available position and radius? A simple vector math would be largely enough. And even if not, wouldn't a simple ray marching / sphere tracing be more accurate, less hardware intensive than relying on their wonkily implemented physics engine?

Kept waiting for something to randomly explode. Surprised when nothing did.

He so nearly handed him the drinks spigot rather than the drink though. Love it when 'Subsumption' goes all object magic show...

* Bartender types on sponge... teleports gin bottle with elbow... makes liquid fly! *

(It turns out Berks just wanted the drink to place on an NPC's head so he could get access to the mission giver... It didn't work...)
