Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

so that is the same area before and after stuff was added to the area?? that is pretty cool. this early on i am sure this is all permanent stuff being added as the game is fleshed out but after launch do you know if there will be any dynamic changes to structures in the game, stuff being built & destroyed over time by playes as the game goes forth?
Yes the track is really cool now. It lacked vertical limitations before.

There is plan for players to construct and own outposts but we have very few details about it and it's not planned before SC release. There is also no plan by CIG to allow players to dynamically change non player structures.

After spending the past month playing--the inventory system is a huge red flag for me.

My background: developed/fielded software/hardware systems for military/industry.

It is, by far, the worst inventory system I have experienced in any game. I understand this is alpha...but cold hard backer cash was spent on this.

A few points:

- To throw something like this over the fence to the customer-base flags some serious problems under the hood

- I am not saying the managers don't care--that is rarely the problem. It usually comes down to teamwork and the ability/inability to deal with problematic ideas/people.

- It almost always starts with a breakdown of trust, which leads to fear/inhibition which leads to ignoring problems. It ends with a crappy product nobody is proud of.

- Observing this inventory system has caused me to notice other issues that, alone, would not be a big deal--but with the inventory system are concerning.

-- Bragging about trivial accomplishments. Companies do this when they are insecure about their ability to finish work.

-- Early 'victory' parties/rewards. New flashy buildings, office spaces, etc. It's the Rocky III story.

-- Generic excuses on critical tech expected years ago. Giant red flag.

-- Shifting blame to the customer. "It's not our fault, we were just doing what the customer wanted".

I have pledged a lot of money on this game--more than I care to admit. I want it to succeed. But that inventory system...insulting at best.

Is there more to the story?

Ha.

"-- Bragging about trivial accomplishments. Companies do this when they are insecure about their ability to finish work."

I'd like to add "... inventing trivial or bogus accomplishmenst and bragging about them..."

Stating he 'understand' this is alpha and complaining just after that the inventory is not beta stage level...😅

I can see you're totally missing the point again... try less selective reading looking only for the pettiest of criticisms to fit your ongoing narrative and just read what's been written in context.

I would be less kind in my description of the inventory system...it's an utter abomination that needs to be killed with fire.

I have to admit the constant troll baiting is getting a bit stale after 10 years.

Get some new material.

Goes for CIG too. Only so many times you can post a jpg on twitter and have simps falling over each other throwing money at you for the privilege of seeing it displayed in their hangar in game.

Dammit Mole, you old ninja - I was looking for a nice meme of "point went over your head" and got lost in all the available options...

I've read all and I only understand that he call himself a 'customer' and expect at least a beta product, not a tester playing an alpha in heavy and itérative development.

The worst is he claims being a dev, so he should know what to expect from an internal build open to public (which he has never have to deal with because almost no one have to open internal alpha builds to public). He just should come back when the game is in beta.

So explain what I've missed.
Blabla it's too slow.
Blabla complaining that missing tech needed for the game are called 'missing tech'.
Blabla about evil investment in structure when the company is expecting to reach 1000 employee.
Blabla talking about customer and product about a pre alpha

Ready for SQ42 lols? It's been an info overload day...

  • "Last month, they continued the process for the remaining core cast characters. These assets had not been worked on for some time, so required updates to meet the desired fidelity"
  • "The landing officer is now finished and integrated into the chapter flow. The role of this AI is to help the player land safely and correctly oriented on the landing pad, with character animations playing to assist with positional and rotation changes. This routine can now be viewed on the ship's cockpit display, as solely seeing the AI through the cockpit visor proved challenging." [Yes Chris, we know it was in the 2012 sizzle real, but be reasonable man...]
  • AI Features began implementing logic for a selection of different attack archetypes: defender, pusher, and strafer. [Answer the Call, to 202020]
  • "This is in pursuit of completing the set so that characters with the female skeleton can perform the same combat behaviors as the male skeleton."
  • "prototyping a set of fauna behaviors... a basic creature roaming behavior, and a basic combat behavior based on the combo melee system used by the Vanduul."
  • "Throughout June, the Animation team worked on... helmet usage"
  • "The team also updated all bunk-bed and mess-hall scenes to ensure they correctly ‘handshake’ with the AI."

Oh in case you're wondering, yes, most of the Chapters have had their work runs extended ;)
How can there still be so much being begun and still prototyped?

SQ404, answer the call in 2025. And this is the good news that they are happy sharing.

At this rate it'll be out in time for Starfield II.

Some of the faithful in there talking the usual poo poo.

But there are some sane ones in there as well:

You mean the concept of "be careful what you wish for because you might just get it?" Because that's a pretty standard thing that happens when people start imagining their "perfect video game concept" without also considering if dream mechanic X would still be even remotely bearable 100 hours in.

Half of star citizen 's design seems to be built around things that sounded amazing in theory or will be jaw dropping exactly once the very first time someone experiences it, but then will go on to make for a completely unplayable hell on earth when you then have to actually play the game normally and suffer through it a hundred times over and over again.

This reads well. It sounds balanced and considered. Informed and damning too.

When's that?

I'd also observe that you seem to imply that people playing the alpha aren't allowed to be critical of it, and in some cases very critcal of it and CIG. Why is that?
It's standard Star Citizen Defence Force dogma...I'm sure Ci¬G have an operations manual they hand out. I guess I missed my copy...maybe they just gave it to Joe Blobbers or something? 🤷‍♂️

Soon (tm)

Someone can be critical. But you can also judge that the critics made are stupid or contradict themselves.

There is ton of valid critics about CIG, not these ones.
