I have to admit, good DIY starts with a good power drill.
My all rounder of choice is my DeWalt 18v bad boy. Compared to the cheap 20 Euro rubbish I used to use it is a joy.

I actually love my paddle bits for drilling wide holes to accept chunky bolts.
I had a split roof beam and successfully splinted it this way.

Now THAT is proper man work!
It scared me a bit- firstly having a ceiling beam split to begin with, bit also having to get 1.5m long planks of wood, clamp them onto the beam, cut 1 inch holes through the lot, and then make the thickest bolts I could to support it all.
5 years prior I was moving a syringe 0.5ml at a time into a Kabiven 9 bag, now I'm drilling holes through structural elements of my house
if i sucide i will loss all that expo data, +5.5 million ship rebuy.
