News Status on Focused Feedback Forums

Hey. As mentioned in the OP: 'Later today we’ll be presenting to you our vision for Exploration improvements, in a post on the forum, and we look forward to hearing what you think. As this topic will function differently from previous Focused Feedback topics, we’ll be asking you to share your feedback on the thread itself.'

This will be more of a blog-post style update, and there will be a chance for you to ask questions in the thread. The dev team will try their best to answer as many questions as possible in the hour or so following the post (specifically about the topic), but it will not work in the same way as previous focused feedback forums...

Can you update the header of this thread to the location of the "in a post on the forum"? As a honk and tonker don't fancy having to explore for days to find the right place :-D

It'd be really sweet if you guys had a YouTube clip of the functionality being discussed... sometimes words cannot adequately convey the message you're trying to get across. Being able to see it in action along with the full description would help paint a vivid picture of actual functionality rather than us just making something up in our heads based on the description. You know how it is around here... imaginations run wild!

Come on man, just an hour or so? We gonna need days to digest it.
Basically what you're saying is that there's no time left to make actual changes, so there's no real point gathering detailed and considered feedback?

IMO the exploration community knows what the exploration community wants out of exploration gameplay. To shove them (us) aside with what is essentially a "you'll get what you're given, we hope you like it" approach, when there was plenty of time months ago to gather feedback on your proposals, is more than a little disconcerting. I really hope we do like the changes, because it feels like, barring a few tweaks from the beta, we're not going to get anything different anyway, even if the whole community seriously dislikes them.

Elite Dangerous

Thank you for your attention, communication and updates, this we need now, the community supports you if you support it. I'm really curious about what's new about chpt 4. Come on guys!

We'll be doing video content in the coming weeks to go a long side it. There will be no video content today, unfortunately.

As for your line of "- focused feedback officially ditched"

All previous focused feedback discussions are archived when a new focused feedback topic is added to the mix.

It's far from being ditched.

Brett C opting for the Derek Smart approach to community interaction ;)

Ed, this is not good. The exploration update is tremendously anticipated by a large number of players, why are they being denied a normal and expansive feedback forum? One hour is not enough time, nor will this be very effective either.

The exploration community has waited four years for this moment, and these improvements are important for the game’s future. I only ask that you (Frontier) please treat it as such, because after reading this statement from you I’m questioning whether or not Frontier realizes just HOW important this is.

Not really. You will need 10 minutes to log into game and test them and say do you like them or not. Let's not play this 'we are so clever and can nitpick game design to pieces' game. That's certainly not how all explorers feel about Q4, that's not how all players feel about the game.

Basically what you're saying is that there's no time left to make actual changes, so there's no real point gathering detailed and considered feedback?

FD did considerable amount of changes during Q1 beta for both C&P and Engineers.

So you already set yourself to salty mode because exploration has been neglected so far? Despite it having *major* redesign from FD? Really?

Jeez calm down - they said the devs would be around to react for the first hour - and then as usual they will react as they deem fit over the following weeks. If explorers over-react like this maybe we should switch this to being a combat update ;)

Mengy, you are overreacting. Ed simply pointed out that after one hour devs will be able to spend some time to answer questions. No doubt they will follow thread and it's commentary in upcoming days too. All they did they changed format, because previously it was three threads plus endless stream of other threads, which frankly didn't change a thing from how Dangerous Forum works. Now they will have one. It's even more focused like that.

I think this is not as dramatic as some people imagine. Frontier won't stop reading those threads after one hour, but this is the time frame when we can most likely expect immediate responses from the developers. In previous FFFs developer replies also came in bursts, when they had the time to do so.

And I also don't think that previous FFFs had really more chance for us to design those features than this new format will have. I guess the main reason for the name change was to manage people's expectations better. Somehow people thought feedback meant we can actually dictate development, although even in the Golden Rules of the FFF it specifically says "No design by committee".

Hold up, you're overblowing all of that.
I'm talking about the Focused Feedback Forum, not the beta. Beta is "in the coming weeks", I'm talking about the Devs being on hand to answer questions in the FFF for only an hour or so after it goes live. That only really catches people who are on the forum during that hour or so. Hence, why I said we'll (collectively, as a community) need days to digest it and formulate questions about it.

Beta is a good place for relatively minor changes and tweaks, but I don't see major changes happening and they usually don't in betas, as the broad strokes are pretty much done. The only way FD could have had a chance to make any major changes if the proposals come out sounding pants, is if we had months of being able to give feedback on them. There's a huge difference in scope between "the probes don't reveal enough of the planet" and "the entire probe gameplay sounds terrible".

And no, I am not in salty mode at all. I am excited for the FFF, but I am lamenting that we didn't get it sooner AND concerned that it's not going to be an effective tool because of how late it is.
