Stellar Unknown Expedition

I'm making some good progress on getting back out there. Here's something really strange that happened though. Last night, after I respawned back at the bubble, I switched out some of the modules, and then started on my way again. When I logged back in this morning, all the changes were still there except my power plant somehow reverted back to being the old one. I know it's not the one I flew out of the bubble with last night, because this one didn't have enough power to run everything, and my fuel scoop is always on priority 5. As soon as I logged in, I was over the power budget and the scoop shut off. It's not a big deal since I can do some power management, but I had switched to a PP with armored instead of low emissions specifically because I added shield boosters that were drawing more power. I hope the other PP is still in my module storage.

Alternately, if I did mistakenly leave the wrong PP on the ship, then somehow it was still powering everything during that portion of the flight. Either scenario is equally strange.

I've never seen anything like that happen before.

EDIT: Landed at the base camp.

I've lost three fighters recently by flashing lights at peduncle pods :)

Yeah, it was the pods that killed me. I was amazed at how instantaneous it was too, since the shield wasn't really a slouch. I probably clipped one and spun into the one next to it, or something.

They do a lot of damage to small ships, dunno about larger ones so could prob destroy a fighter quite easily in one hit, I lost 3 rings of shields and 8% today to one of them in DBX (lightweighted and stripped but still seemed a lot of damage)

Yesterday I was floating peacefully near another space tree in another colorless cloud in Dryman's Point and decided to poke the tree with my railgun. I know they have no traits and no reactions, I know a lot of people did this before, but why not?

And suddenly -- boom! "Hull breach attack! Module disrupted!" Thrusters of my anaconda go rebooting. I check my hull, shields and modules -- everything is at 100%. A new trait! Some of those trees do react to damage. I scan the tree and get no new records to the Codex. But that is OK, another Codex bug, I've seen dozens of them. And that explains why this new trait has not been to the Codex already.

I launch fighter and try to poke the tree with a laser. No reaction. That is even more strange. I dock and uncover torpedo launcher (yes, I have one just in case). Torpedo launched -- and no reaction again. I fire railgun just to check and my drive reboots again. So that is something really-really new -- a railgun-specific reaction.

And then I check my modules again and suddenly realize that I have shock mine launcher turned on and attached to the same fire group as my railgun. So every time I press the trigger, I not only fire railgun, but also launch a mine with engineered effect for drive reboot, that explodes under the anaconda's belly.

That is about how space madness takes hold of you :ROFLMAO:

I was with you all the way there, thinking, what trait have we missed?

At least you were scientific, check and exclude everything before posting...and technically you did solve a mystery, albeit one of your own making :)

Void Sickness FTW!

So, not a railgun specific reaction, but more like a shock mine specific reaction that doesn't even require the life form to be present. ;) :D

Stellar Unknown has had a word with the Moon 2A and it has assured us that it will try its best to give us a show of green fog tonight in time for the European time zone mass jump.

Unfortunately it cannot do the same for the NA meet & jump tonight but it wishes you luck anyway.

Comments:

On the way to the next basecamp are several small nebulae, each one around a single neutron star. They look stunning with the mass of core stars in the background. The nebulae change from light blue by the neutron to pink and purple as you fly away from it. As well as from within the systems try observing them from neighbouring systems for extra screenshot opportunities.

Basecamp - Baukeau oh-v d2-1273. Planet 6A Geosite 3. Gives view of the nearby nebula and has many gas giants and planets including 2 ringed ammonia worlds and a ringed water world. Green system. Warning - The ringed Brown Dwarf can be a hazard as the rings may be edge on or almost invisible against the colours in the sky. Always approach it with caution to avoid emergency stops and module damage.

The next way points will be a little shorter than usual. Hopefully, this will give folks behind the main fleet to catch up. o7

Comments:

Orbiting a large brightly coloured rocky planet with the dwarf star they both orbit in the sky against the galactic disc, this planet has some great views for photographers, magma sites and plenty of landing space. The planet has a very fast rotation period of 0.2 days so the view changes constantly. The system is green with all Jumponium materials in Geosites.

The LAST waypoint (other than Sagittarius A) of our incredible journey! Well done, Commander!!!

Journey to the Centre of the Galaxy! ( POI on the way to XA/Sag A after completing WP 14. )

Journey to Waypoint 15

POI – Great Annihilator. The Great Annihilator is a significant detour on the way to Sag A* but worth a visit from Explorer’s Anchorage or if you are in the area. The second largest black hole after Sag A*, it’s a binary black hole system surrounded by dust that obscures the nearby stars. This gives you some great lensing effects, screenshots and video. There is a tourist beacon to visit as with Sag A*.

Explorer’s Anchorage - Stuemeae FG-Y d7561. Explorer’s Anchorage was built as a result of 2 Community Goals during Distant Worlds 2. In the first CG at Omega Mining Operations players gathered the materials to build the new station at the core. The second CG at the station itself decided what facilities it would have, with players again mining for the necessary materials. The success of both goals resulted in a Science Relay and a Research Megaship being added afterwards.

Event Horizons Science Relay The Event Horizons Science Relay has been deployed around planet CD 1.
DSSV Distant Worlds This Scientific Research Megaship travels to 6 locations, each of which is a point of interest worth a visit by itself. You will need to run a Discovery Scan for it to appear in the navigation panel. Be aware that if it is at Sag A* and you have not been to all the Waypoints up to 14 then you should visit those first.

High Points above the Core - Nov 22nd 3305
These locations offer a unique view of the core of the galaxy as a large glowing disc beneath you. Not to be missed while you are here. Trip to The Peak This excursion will be organised by Phill P and will take place on the last Friday evening of the expedition, November 22nd, Time TBA. You will need a jump range of 66.2ly to get there and back or 58.61ly if you don’t mind a one way trip. You will also need the ability to do 5 jumps before refuelling and at least 2 Basic and 4 Premium FSD Injections.

Break the Sky
Two locations above the galactic plane offering a great view for those without the range to reach The Peak. Only 27ly jump range (before using Jumponium or neutrons) is needed for both.

More details about these 2 trips will be released soon.

Please note the Meetup at WP 14 is now 17th November and the Sag A meetup on 24th November. Post #77 has been edited to reflect this.

Sorry for any confusion.

Keep an eye on Discord and here for PhillP excursions start systems and routes.
