Stop Killing SLF pilots on Ship Destruction

You could at least be honest by saying "I don't like any risk at all". Otherwise you'd certainly have mentioned the alternate possibility to remove engineered modules on ship loss as well - you didn't. But now I have to be honest as well: I'm not sure if both are actually comparable and the ranks of SLF pilots are probably overrated. Has anyone ever made some systematic tests about the 'skill' of the different ranks of SLF pilots? Maybe we're all talking a lot of hot air here...

I can say with some certainty (no hard stats here, just observation) that elite npc pilots are actually pretty damned amazing, and the difference between them and harmless ones is massive. However, they're not much better than dangerous/deadly, so the huge gap between "high rank" and flat out elite SLF pilots isn't worth the grind. Its more like just having had an SLF pilot for a long time eventually gets them there, even if it wasn't your goal.

But yeah, I've had my elite pilot solo medium-large ships in conflict zones (pythons, clippers, etc.), and the lower ranking ones never stand a chance. I'd definitely say its worth the grind to rank up the pilots, I just think its EXTREMELY FAR from worth the risking of losing that grind when almost nothing else in the game presents that sort of risk. That's honestly why I'm so bummed about losing pilots; They're really useful, and are a satisfying reward for the combat rank grind you go through to get them. It hurts that they can just vanish all at once, and take 50ish hours of combat with them.

I've seen this posted plenty of times now and ignored since SLFs were added, but now after losing an elite SLF pilot when I was killed by a team of 6 players at once who all had ships covered in double shot frags (basically unavoidable death, especially in an asteroid belt where you're mass locked) I'm starting to agree more than ever that losing the pilot I spent at least 50 hours grinding to elite rank is absolutely absurd. I can't lose access to Professor Palin, nor can I lose my engineered modules, so why on earth is something so grind-heavy perishable? What is the point of carrying a fighter for self defense if they're quite literally the most valuable thing you can carry in that they're possible to lose with a single, very quick death? And no, I don't mind PVP or "griefing" in open play. I'm merely stating that I really think losing fighter pilots on death is an overly brutal consequence compared to quite literally every other circumstance except dying without insurance, and doesn't seem to have any positive reason for existing.

The anaconda has 8 visible escape pods on its hull and frontier wants to tell me that my crew didnt make it because reasons?
There are litteraly 8 escape pods on the main body of my ship.
Granted, in an anaconda you don't really die if you already have a firm grasp of the game.
just the fact that there are clearly visible escape pods and my crew cant use them es me off.
Additionally it es me off that we cant activate crew on-board and have to be in the station to activate them
they are my crew and if they are on my ship I should have the ability to assign them to a duty at a moment's notice.
