Thargoid invasion - Next target systems?

The remaining spires at Taranis don't seem to do anything.
They also weren’t active while the Titan itself was, so that’s something which is different with this one, and hence a case to be studied (potentially).

The remaining controls are only a hassle for a cleanup crew, as they no longer launch attacks following the Titan’s destruction. Unless the spire prevents destruction of a heart, which would necessitate it to be taken out - it’d be good to know that too, I suppose.

True though explorers might want a look around the Spires once the system lacks things shooting green caustic gunk at them.

Even if they were Control systems while we were attacking T. Taranis, HIP 25654 and Trianguli Sector BA-A d85 are not good indicators for either matter because they were both cleared once before in 3309! HIP 30439 will be the first time a not-previously-cleared Spire site will be active during a Titan assault and—if Commanders choose to leave it—also the first time a not-previously-cleared Spire site can be examined in a week after the Titan meltdown.

There was some initial confusion around M. Indra with the fate of previously-cleared Spire sites, where it seemed Frontier had not thought that far ahead, and it did not help that those systems also had been reverted to Control after Titan rescues completed them unintentionally. Since then it has been quite clear that recaptured Thargoid systems do not get their periphery rule back, which places HIP 30439 in a unique role.

Putting aside that recently the situation got even more confusing with the Thargoid system status view for certain recaptured spires(including the one Oya took back in the alert spam) showing as if they have one, as opposed to standard UI for controls.

… though it wasn’t the case for all of them, and I haven’t checked the status in the various recent sub-patches.

Field test run just in case;

So, the 'spire site present' reclaimed spire appears to count as the classic ones would, good to have a firm answer ahead of things.

Will admit had half been preparing to hit the last hadad spire and samples in the same week as titan, tidy it all up and give the folk who would prefer only doing Intermittent titan runs something in0situ to work with, moved that advisory to a flat "See how Hadad titan proper goes - if its seeming too slow, detour and rip the last toys out of its playbox, otherwise, focus down".

On matters Thargoid, without knowing of a better thread to mention it in, latest GalNet news digest has an odd ender to it… (not timestamped, just skip to the credits but keep watching - preferably with audio)

Is that not simply one of the Interceptor doors at the base of the main Spire site structure?
It is not. They used one of the Thargoid surface sites - those crashed motherships of the first war - for it. Which I’d personally find a strange thing to use as a hint, if it is one, with a Thargoid-esque sound playing, while the fourth Titan is soon to meet a (very explosive) end.

May or may not require tinfoil. But then half of the things in Elite do…

Thank you for testing it! That being the case, I imagine we will end up needing to clear a few more places when the time comes, given that all previous M. Indra sites except for Hyades Sector DX-H a11-1 report a Spire.

See how Hadad titan proper goes

Very much so, mostly due to possible misbehaviour! As long as it does not gain free Control systems, and having a Spire site does not protect it of course, it will be an all-but-assured meltdown some time on the upcoming weekend.

It wouldn't be the first time. As I'm occasionally reminded, they are one of the "Elite partners" that get glimpses of future content ahead of the general crowd...

... and why else would they do a slow zooming out shot of the center of a downed mothership accompanied by an oddly specific sound cue which doesn't quite seem to be any Thargoid we've met yet, after the news segments?

Is there a list of FCs that can store tissue samples for specific systems? I mean for preparing the work for the next titan, for example.

Didn't pay attention before but it just looks like a grounded ruin that isn't so much ruined anymore and the sound sounds like the repair drones that hang around there.

Not sure the Scavengers are actually doing repair work(been told the opposite, not sure on the source of the info in one way or another though), but did think, maybe it'll have a thing to do with the Proteus Wave. Or the ship it was placed in.

If it doesn't, then, I guess, just wait and see if my hunch turns out to be anything. Not that I'd be too eager to suddenly see a lot more Thargoid capital ships of slightly smaller size than a Titan around and about... should that happen.

(From an in-character perspective. OOC, I'd not be too unhappy about something to shake up Titans getting blasted to - more or less intact - shreds without any real opposition seeming to be there.)

M. Indra, although it will need something special!
So having read that and with that plan in mind, do we wanna let Indra cook for a while and start hammering away at Thor (after Hadad go boom of course)? It's gonna take several weeks at least for those Indra systems to kick over. Thor should be a workable full-clear with a Spire at position 8 and over 60 of her 109 (checks DCoH) errrr.... 105 controls at >20 Ly.

The Thor idea has been put forward more than once. Response is to post a list of Indra systems they don't want us going after.
So I guess we're improvising our own missions at this point?🤷
