Community Event / Creation The C-Pod: A DIY Command seat (build log)

Well, not being able to make any progress has been a little frustrating. I've also done my back in horsing around this weekend with my wife (no, not what you think ...).

The mic on my g930 headset snapped off so I've consoled myself by buying a new one. I really want to try out VoiceAttack and no microphone is kind of a deal breaker. The epoxy I ordered hasn't turned up yet either :(

Rest that back and take it easy, youll bounce right back soon enough :)
Its probably a good idea to keep the missus happy, since you will soon refurnish the house to look like a coriolis station!

Epoxy arrived ... finally.

Edges painted - no hint of wood showing please:

This is what I can use the weights for if my back is bad:

Sides now glued and waiting to dry.

Having said that TIOO....I think the third switch at the top may well be 1 millionth of a millimetre out...come on,get your act together! ;)

That just looks so amazingly professional! Those could easily be sold like that!

Thanks Enride :)

Cheers Ven - it's not me that's out, it's the Thrustmaster Quality Control that's lacking ;)

Looking forwards to getting both these units operational so I can get ... back ... to ... the ... game.

Keep it up

Just read this from front to back and it's awsome what you've made so far can't wait to see the finished chair and we shall all morn your broken headset.

Thanks for that Jack :) The headset with a broken mic will be put to good use as a dedicated set for my racing rig ... or potential future spares!

headset with broken mic? Take out the speakers, build them into the chair! Near the pilot's ears are what looks like air vent, could easily double for speakers tho. :)

edit: I'mma derp, you planned to have lights there already... I like the lights idea better, come to think.

Aaah, the mysterious "Chisel", way up there with aether and atlantis ;)
But if you put a chisel to the acrylic, wont it break?

A very sharp chisel will not if used for trimming (paring) only, think scalpel / razorblade sharp which with good tool steel is relatively simple to achieve.

(offtopic but could be of interest) Those lidl chisels I mentioned are back on sale from 10th Nov. the 7.99 ones. Don't be fooled by the price, they have chrome vanadium blades which will take a razorblade sharp edge (if done correctly - I'll be happy to tell you how) and the handles are ash, which is as hard as oak. If you are near a lidl on 10th Nov, and do the occasional DIY or maybe a project like this; do yourself a favor and buy a set.

BTW I don't work for lidl or have any links to them, but I am a hobby woodworker with sets of these and they really are good for how much they cost, I have 3 sets infact, 1 normal, 1 ground to skew angles (60 deg) and another set ground to do dovetail joints.

Just checked out where the local Lidl is Rafe. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll be getting a set of these. I need to make a couple more panels anyway and this will no doubt save a considerable amount of time and sweat.

No worries Tyrope, I'm open to any ideas people have. Thanks for the input.

Edit: synchronicity - new headset just arrived ... yay :)

It's only my back which is holding things up Enride :( Hope it sorts itself out soon. No chance that this setup will be come a distraction to the build - my wife will see to that :)

Yes, it's MoodyB's Roccat Powergrid setup. Both nice looking and functional.
