The Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) | A FleetComm Initiative

To help plan your deployment operations, I threw together a quick sheet. Numbers are not final until release, obviously, but that can help you give you an idea.

To use it, File > Make a copy.
The green cells are the ones you use, the rest is calculated automatically. The prices are the NEW prices changed like an hour ago in the beta, including the new fuel efficiency.

I just want to put on record here that the changes made by FDev at first glance are very much welcomed. However - and this is speaking from a purely expedition organisers perspective - the increase in fuel efficiency is something that has pretty much made the mining, prospecting, and team hauling roles obsolete on major expeditionary events. It is now possible to fill a Carrier up with fuel in the bubble (utilising the free hold space + fuel depot) and fly it almost all the way to Beagle Point without the need for any logistical support along the way.
This is definitely something I haven’t considered... but speaking personally, getting out into space is only half the expedition. The desire for many to return to inhabited space will remain. This means that mining and prospecting remains on the table, only the need to do so won’t be quite as pressing.

I'm wondering how many people will eventually make a pilgrimage to visit all of the carriers in the array. :D

I'm already planning to do this. I don't have enough credits to buy my own carrier, so after we have the DSSA deployed and all the mining of fuel is done I plan to visit each of them in turn. That's how I'll earn enough credits to buy my own carrier! Plus the journey sounds terribly fun.

I'm getting excited by this project again. I thought it was great, and then my heart sank when the beta started and we saw the pricing. I figured I'd probably have to drop out of DSSA. But with the changes (if they go live, that is), I'm excited again. Yay!

Now I'm dying to see the livery options. ;)

See this thread for a good idea of what we can expect:

Oh believe me, I did. And I've flown around to a few of them too. What I'm unsure of is whether those are all livery options, or if there really are 4 variants of the carriers, since the dry-docks only have 4 configurations, with a bunch of different colors. My hope is that they're modular choices, and they just came up with 4 arrangements for the static dry-docks instead of making them all unique.

Well, I'm out of fuel 5206 Ly from my intended destination (no surprise - it was expected). This means when the fuel usage is halved I can easily make it into position just on stored Tritium. Brought along a shipyard, refuel and repair - but no outfitting.

Ended up just over 30k Ly from where I started - not bad.

I guess I now continue by ship to see if there is Tritium in my intended parking spot :)

Places where to park a carrier:
  • AA-A H0 systems, distinct easy to find and to remember (not that I'd suggest to have a carrier in each of those systems ;) )
  • nebulae - those always attract traffic
  • other sightseeing POIs
  • system with high tritium yield - mine and sell to other carriers; don't expect high traffic though :) bonus points if visitors can buy the mining equipment on your carrier
  • systems with lots of synthesis materials, best with geo and/or bio sites

And not directly related to this initiative, Colonia, selling mining equipment. Well, when I last year arrived in Colonia to unlock the Engineers, there was some essential deep core mining equipment missing, not sure whether that has been fixed...

We have that now.

Ship or outfitting packs for the Empire ships, very large A/B-rated sensors, specialist T-10 armour, Corvettes ... everything else is available locally.

just noticed this thread, excellent plan.....still no reason for me to own a FC until upkeep is detached from real time or decommisioning is changed so asset loss while away from the game isn't a thing. But this idea will let me interact with the darn things in a way that sounds cool. :)

In case it is of interest - Decommissioning my FC 30k Ly out gets me 1.5 Billion back. I don't think this is planned to change, that you get less the further from civilisation you are, so maybe worth being aware:

Maybe someone could contact the people at EDSM to prepare and expand their search function to search for the nearest carrier. That would obviously require that the players allow them to keep track of their carrier positions, best with carrier config as well...
