The Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) | A FleetComm Initiative

Can you plot a route with multiple jumps and have the carrier jump when you are not online?
Or you have to manually jump every 2 hours?

Edit: Sry if it was asked before

You have to jump manually every 2 hours. And it helps to use a ship on board to plot the route and then select one of the way points which are roughly <500 ly away. I used one of my explorers for that. Also one should have a cargo hauler, like a T9, on board to transfer the Tritium.

The CCN Tranquility has arrived at La Vita Nuova. (Phreia Flyou FG-V d3-116)

6,100 Ly from Tir (Colonia)
Used about 5,700 tons of Tritium.

Nicely done. How long did it take you (approx).

Trying to gauge what sort of time frame it'l take to get some of the DSSA Carriers out to the Abyss, Acheron, and Silentium.

Departure was on Fri 04/10/2020 at 1900h UTC and arrival was today at 1830h UTC. Although on Saturday I waited for a commander which could not come. I could have been a bit faster.

Are there any openings left? I'm thinking of volunteering.

EDIT: Just applied for the Empyrean Straits. I wanted to put one in Breakthrough Echoes, but it looks like Ryker's Hope is full.

Query, as I didn't see it mentioned in the thread: what's the dotted-line out to the Cancri Cluster representing? Carrier shuttle to an otherwise unreachable area?

That cluster is high above the plane and cannot be represented on a 2D map. And yes, a carrier stationed there would need to act as a shuttle as there is no escape from there (you can neutron jump in, but not out).

There is no maximum number of participants :)

Just where the cluster is, but for the sake of legibility I put it on the side. A Carrier could do the shuttle to bring ships back.

My main concern with the being able to reliably shuttle back and forth for Messier 67 is that currently in the beta there ins not actually a way to transfer commodity Tritium in the carrier's market into the Tritium Depot without actually being there and doing the transfer manually. Unless FDev changes that it may be a bit of a challenge to reliably do shuttle trips back and forth if we can only rely on the max 1000 cap of the Tritium Depot as you'd haver to have like a near constant stream of miners to keep that stocked up if you can't remotely have market Tritium transfer into the Depot.

If FDev changes that to be possible though then I should be able to leave my Fleet Carrier up there in Messier 67 during and after my Celebration of Early Astronomy 2 expedition which will be beelining up for Messier 67 when Fleet Carriers are released. I can then leave it up there to do shuttling back and forth for the remaining 8 weeks of my expedition at least.

In the event of remote Market->Depot transfer not being possible I may be able to coordinate times to get online with people and temporarily change the carrier's market to allow super cheap selling to allow for transferring that I can then reimburse in some other manner to them.

Anyone else looking to get carriers up there, feel free to reach out with me and we can coordinate efforts on getting up there as quickly as possible after release.

I'm currently using the beta to scout the most optimal route for carriers to get up there in the least # of jumps.

That said having two that swap positions back and forth between Outotch SA-U d4-0 and 2MASS J08515020+1146069 like how those megaships out to guardian space do would be rather cool.

I'm continuing to make the case for Universal Cartographics over in the beta forum. I'm getting a lot of pushback from players, probably more than I would have expected. But I feel it's a pretty important feature for DSSA to be as useful as we'd hope. I mean, this seems like the perfect example of the sort of "emergent gameplay" that carriers are intended to facilitate, but as with most of the other use-cases that players try to come up with for them, it's hamstrung right out of the gate due to design limitations.

It's not over until the fat lady sings, as they say. Hopefully we'll get some more definitive news in the next day or two, when FDev is planning to give us some more information.

Awesome! And probably spot on in terms of what FDev had hoped when designing these. I do see that this initiative also will bring a lot to the game and the community, so will probably be offering my carrier, once I have enough funds to sustain it for a year after purchase and outfitting.

Now a suggestion...

To possibly start setting up bases/micro-communities in the void, there should be a co-ordination of two carriers per selected base system. This would allow one carrier to return to the Bubble for off-loading of commodities and hence finance another year in the void, while the other stays put. The schedule would probably have to be flexible, but regardless, planning for occasional returns would probably be good.

As things currently stand, moving Carriers out to the more distant regions isn't going to be something you want to do more than once; and consequently, if you're the owner of one of these and need to do something to fund them, you'll be heading back to the Bubble and managing the Carrier remotely.

But things are still subject to change, so... who knows how it'll work out...

That was my thought also.
My primary account will stay around the bubble with the three years of progress that it has accrued, continuing to make money to pay for the upkeep.
My alt account will become mining support to keep the carrier moving to it's final destination.

Oh FRACK, they listened!!!!!!!

Okay, I don't have the credits to buy a carrier yet, but I'll be flying back to the bubble, grabbing my mining ship, and helping the carrier owners in the DSSA by mining fuel for whoever needs it.

Wow, I'm honestly excited now.

I just want to put on record here that the changes made by FDev at first glance are very much welcomed. However - and this is speaking from a purely expedition organisers perspective - the increase in fuel efficiency is something that has pretty much made the mining, prospecting, and team hauling roles obsolete on major expeditionary events. It is now possible to fill a Carrier up with fuel in the bubble (utilising the free hold space + fuel depot) and fly it almost all the way to Beagle Point without the need for any logistical support along the way.

For non-expeditionary events and solo players, this isn't an issue, and Frontier can't please everyone. So they opted for this change.

Frontier needed to find a middle-ground, but this particular change has gone from one extreme to the other. Increasing Tritium mining yields by 100%, even 200%, instead of simply upping fuel efficiency by 50% would have kept logistical support a factor, and at the same time would have removed many of the frustrations experienced by solo players gathering enough mined Tritium for their own journey around the galaxy.

Again, this is me personally speaking from and expeditionary perspective, where roles and teamwork are crucial at binding such events together, and often add to the overall experience.

With that said, I welcome the other changes Frontier have announced and the DSSA (albeit in a slightly less 'supportive' role) will be much more viable, and despite the reduced importance for mining and prospecting on expeditionary events, Carriers will still have important roles to play, and crucially with UC a possibility, will become major assets on lots of exploration events to come (y)
