The Deep Space Support Array (DSSA) | A FleetComm Initiative

So its baffling that they see exploration as an afterthought, when time and again its been the exploration community that has created some of the best events and publicity for the game - getting the best out of the content its given.

I'll be honest, I think there are technical limitations holding them back, and I think they've killed their own big new feature because of that.

Two years ago they obviously wanted exploration to be a huge part of the fleet carrier feature. Then they delayed it. And delayed it again. And again. There were obviously issues they were having trouble with.

So here we are two years later, they've had plenty of time to develop this, and yet look at what we got? Upkeep costs which are WAY out of line. Limited features and usefulness. Exploration has been completely removed from the scope. It would be unrealistic to imagine that a studio like Frontier, with their experience and staff, could put out a feature like this by accident. Not after two years plus of development.

My hunch is they've tuned it and neutered it like this on purpose. Probably due to server issues. We've seen in the beta what happens when too many carriers are in one system: the game crashes and locks hard. The server can't handle too many people owning these things, so I think they designed it to be so incredibly unappealing just to reduce the server headaches it would produce if say 20% of the players owned carriers.

Just my gut feeling.

IMPORTANT STUFF

Here's a Form to formally signup your Carrier for the DSSA. The Form is editable, so:
• SAVE YOUR EDIT LINK!! (it is not the webpage URL at the end of the form, it's the blue link that says "Edit your responses" — save that link to come back, change info, etc.)
• You don't have to answer the questions you don't have the answer to, no need to put "N/A" or "TBA" or "I think I'll blablabla". When you know, you can fill the blanks. We're just warming this thing up.

This Form is your form and will be used to update the status of your deployment expedition/operation and your Carrier info, which are all displayed on the... DSSA tracker.

This a public list of all DSSA Carriers, showing their deployment operation, status, location, destination, services, yadda yadda yadda. It's automatically sorted like this:
• Operational Carriers on top
• Decreasing order ofpreparation/closeness to launch, and then in descending order of launch date, the closer to [today], the higher.

Refreshes every 5 min.

I'll keep the table in the OP visible for now but pretty soon I'll remove it.

EDIT: even if you've volunteered on here or via PM, you need to fill the Form to officially signup and to generate your own editable form.

Surely it couldn't be too difficult to add some sort of check that could limit the number of carriers in any one particular system?

Tricky when the systems getting clogged up are mainly the ones with carrier shipyards. Adding a lot more purchase systems might be necessary - Colonia would probably need two or three, too, rather than just one - or let you have the carrier delivered to any system with a Shipyard as part of the purchase and then apply a limit.

(Also tricky since traffic in the bubble is very skewed in distribution - set the limit too low and you'd end up with a few people grabbing permanent carrier spots and no-one else ever getting in, for any popular system. But maybe they'll have to)

If the issue is with the number of them in any one system, there are solutions:

* Add some sort of "navigational interference" handwavium to justify not letting you jump it into a system that has 10+ of them already.

* Exempt the systems with the carrier facilities, and add more such facilities, since carriers need to return to them to add capabilities. OR remove the requirement to return to a carrier facility.

* Exempt the creation of new carriers.

* Spawn the new carriers in multiple surrounding star systems. Set a distance limit of maybe 20 ly.

IF (of course I can't know for sure) it's about technically limitations, they still could swallow the pill and upgrade their server(s) but this would mean to invest in ED again, which stopped imho years ago.

Can't wait for "new era" which will offer two new ui menus and three new assets for real $$$ to push the next FD title ;)

Errrm, nope. There are two types of facility - the creation ones and the 'others' that can adjust facilities. They seem to be in High Tech systems (difficult to tell as the galmap filter is b0rked)

In saying that I'd be very surprised if the maintenance and fuel costs remain as they are. We're playing the waiting game.
If that REALLY becomes the case, then I'm sorry, I'll be dropping out too. But I stay optimistic, with this much feedback, salt and complaints thrown at them they'll surely change things.

On behalf of the Seals, although we have said we would like to provide a carrier to this worthy endeavor, as things currently stand it will be hard for us as an organization to muster the funds or be able to justify sinking so many of our resources into this.

In order for this to be feasible for even our organization, much less any single commander, these prices are too high.

Which means, never at all. in dev-speak.

I also can't even fathom how it was an oversight, with the redemption office being put in, giving the ability to sell vouchers.

Lave Radio had a podcast with Frontier devs talking about Fleet Carriers:

If you skip to 1:06 minutes in, it appears like they never considered making carriers useful for exploration, and it does not sound likely UC will be added for release. They might consider it for some future release though.

I am up for volunteering but will need the ongoing upkeep costs to come down a bit.
I am not sure being on the PS4 will help either. I seem to be the only one.

Was planning to base myself at the start of route 33 to help act as a way beacon.

The BPS Deep Space Boon has been commissioned and will service the Empyrean Straits, Negative Z.

The carrier will be owned by CMDR Nathaniel Evans (Eagle131's Alt) on behalf of The Buur Pit. Boon Commanders will aid in preparation, and at least one is crazy enough to accompany CMDR Nate during the Deep Space Boon's long 25 kylie journey.

The finer details of the preparation operation are TBD. But we hope to achieve a launch date of June 30th, 3306, and an arrival date of no longer than one month following.

o7 DSSA CMDRs. See you in the black.

The lack of UC is dissapointing, but the costs surely can be tweaked downwards. Aside from someone taking the decision, the actual change should be absoloutely trivial.

As long as their are high maintainance costs, its just a no from me.

Celestial Light Brigade has already pledged to set up in the Odin's Hold Z- position. If the price of fleet carrier upkeep is significantly reduced we may also be able to place a second carrier in the Norma Arm Z- area. We hope to sponsor some community event in which we establish a colony with services suited to mining and fleet carrier support and perhaps agriculture and tourism sites in clusters of close proximity earth like worlds we have painstakingly uncovered and mapped in our recent faction wide exploration event.

The CCN Tranquility has arrived at La Vita Nuova. (Phreia Flyou FG-V d3-116)

6,100 Ly from Tir (Colonia)
Used about 5,700 tons of Tritium.

Can you plot a route with multiple jumps and have the carrier jump when you are not online?
Or you have to manually jump every 2 hours?

Edit: Sry if it was asked before
