So its baffling that they see exploration as an afterthought, when time and again its been the exploration community that has created some of the best events and publicity for the game - getting the best out of the content its given.
I'll be honest, I think there are technical limitations holding them back, and I think they've killed their own big new feature because of that.
Two years ago they obviously wanted exploration to be a huge part of the fleet carrier feature. Then they delayed it. And delayed it again. And again. There were obviously issues they were having trouble with.
So here we are two years later, they've had plenty of time to develop this, and yet look at what we got? Upkeep costs which are WAY out of line. Limited features and usefulness. Exploration has been completely removed from the scope. It would be unrealistic to imagine that a studio like Frontier, with their experience and staff, could put out a feature like this by accident. Not after two years plus of development.
My hunch is they've tuned it and neutered it like this on purpose. Probably due to server issues. We've seen in the beta what happens when too many carriers are in one system: the game crashes and locks hard. The server can't handle too many people owning these things, so I think they designed it to be so incredibly unappealing just to reduce the server headaches it would produce if say 20% of the players owned carriers.
Just my gut feeling.
