If they were illegal at the station (which I believe all slaves are at federal stations) then the scan is independent of the mission. You lose a pretty hefty amount of rep for carrying banned goods. Just be more careful next time.

System reputation - Broken? Or is it just me?

During my recent time in Lugh i've had some bizarre jumps and drops in system rep. I thought i understood how it worked but after handing in tonnes of bonds for the feds at hartsfield apparently i don't. Any one else had similar problems or random fluctuations?

Vainity of seeking reputation

"It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory." Proverbs 25:27

Certainly it is not good to play too much Elite: for to do so for reputation sakes results in no reputation.

I have spent the last week running missions determined to get my reputation up with the Federation from "unfriendly" to "neutral". Other than being caught twice for illegal luxury goods (15K) and being caught with two slaves I was seeking to set free (5K), it all went well with reputation being increased and a couple of Federation worlds going neutral. Most missions were reputation missions, and I traded at two cargo holds of luxuries on Federation worlds, and killed pirates with Fed bounties. Finally, I finished the evening selling slaves as a mission for a pro-federation faction on a Federation anachy world. I received my faction increase and, after a long week, I checked checked my faction rating as I regularly do.

HOSTILE

I was crestfallen. All this work; all this positive reputation gain: with only a handfull of loss from a few independent factions. All of this worked against me.

I was angry! I was hostile.

Because reputation is not well documented nor able to be monitored by a player, I am hesitant about calling this a bug. Should I submit a ticket about this?

I think this and the bounty system is broke. Right now I'm friendly with the fed and a fed station. But, there is no real advantage to it, and I haven't seen a Navy ranking mission over 24 hours ago.

Anyways, the biggest thing that's broke about it is how I can wipe out an entire fleet of ships. But, all is forgotten after a few missions.

As far as the bounties. I think they need to mess with the bounty system to give you some more time to pay off your bounty. I was just attacking a wanted ship, and one of my laser hit a friendly. I got a 120 bounty, and everyone turned on me immediately. This includes system ships that I'm friendly (green) with.
They should give you 3 shots, death, or 15 min before everyone else can see your bounty.

I think the best way to improve your rep right now is turning in bounty vouchers. I became allied with a minor faction pretty quickly just from belt ratting a nearby planetary ring.

Ditto. INSANELY fast. As in 3 days since I arrive in the Empire to become full Ally.

It the fastest way. But, ranks and rep is 2 different things.

Anyways, I think the bigger the bounty, the more rep you get. I've also seen, if you shoot or blow up the ship in front of the system cops. This also pushes up your rep a bit.

I would say the advantage is that you are not unfriendly and should be more resistant to the vagaries of what is a system that seems both counter to common sense and poorly explained.

As for the biggest thing being broke: it is my opinion that being forgiven for causing a loss of capital in game (the pilots are brain cloned like the rest of us are presumably), is far less problematic than spending a week of real time trying to achieve something, showing progress, and then having it all go for naught with narry an explanation.

Again, is what I and DYSEQTA have detailed a likely bug and has anyone else raised this as a ticket? Should I?

Please check the guides section - there is one that is pretty good. The "allied" state with individual minor factions is somewhat superficial. They will not attack an ally, but you do not really have much rep with them. It seems that the influence with each particular faction will be shown once you submit your mission and mission complete screen is displayed. So in short, keep moving around and picking up missions from Federal factions you have not encountered before. You can use getting permits to different systems as an incentive to move to a different area and get missions from new factions.

From the point of view which missions bring the most rep, my own observations make me believe that the biggest boost you get is for Anaconda assassination mission (it will upset some other faction though, make sure you know which one and how it affects you), followed by killing pirates, followed by charity missions and followed by fetch and haul missions.

I have run across a couple of bugged assassination missions myself and so did my son. The necessary USS just never shows up. For pirate killing missions make sure you take those only if the system you need to hunt has at least a nav beacon, otherwise it will be a grind.

How does reputation work

I am allied with the Federation. I try to choose a faction that is allied with the federation when doing kill missions as I assume they would want me to kill someone who is wanted by the federation. When I do this however i get negative reputation in the Federation because it shows that i am allied with said faction of my target even though i have never done any work for them...

No matter what system I enter i am always allied with the federation factions. This poses a conundrum when two fed factions are at odds with each other. Yet doing Fed missions is the only way to increase fed standing for Navy promotions. What am I suppose to do?

Reputation - am i bad to the bone by nature?

Is it just me or is the current reputation system kind of hard to fully understand? I find it a bit hard to know which actions to take and what missions to complete in order to gain reputation. Sometimes i go bountyhunting and end up with credits as reward but at the same time my reputation seems to go down with the faction who pays the bounty. Same with missions - i complete a mission, gain the reward and at the same time my rep goes down.

Perhaps it's me being stupid and not paying attention, perhaps i lack empathy and therefore don't understand the consequences of my actions - but wouldn't it be great if you could tell what will happen with your reputation if you kill a pirate, complete a mission etc?

I'm pretty convinced that even the devs don't understand it...

In spite of that, I've been able to become "Allied" with all 3 major factions and rank up to Station Commander and Earl.

So are you "Bad to the bone by Nature"? Probably not - you should speak to your parents, it was probably a deficiency with education...

Congratulations to your promotions commander. I'm considering going all-in when it comes to being evil in-game myself. That way i wouldn't have to consider reputation at all. I don't know if reputation even matters? Still my conscience tells me otherwise. Maybe i'm not ALL bad after all...

Reputation Advice

Hi can someone help me with some advice on reputation.

If I want to build up my reputation with a certain faction on a station bulletin board, should I ONLY do missions for that one faction?

I guess what I'm asking is, if I also happen to pick up other missions from other factions in the system because they are doable at the same time, will that negatively impact my rep with the faction I'm actually trying to be friends with?

Also, is there any rule of thumb guide to how many missions I would need to do with a faction to get a permit for their system, or is it pretty random? I'm just wondering whether you have to do just a few missions, or 10s, or even 100s, before they will see you as a friend?

delivery & charity missions won't affect your rep with other factions

assassinations / bounty hunting / combat missions will

bounty hunting and charity are the best for increasing rep quickly.

It depends. If that faction is independent, then do missions only for them. If a faction is allied with Federation, Empire od Alliance, you can do missions for any other faction that is allied with that major faction. If you are frendly with a major faction, you will be friendly with every faction allied to the major faction automaticly.

HELP: reputation needs improving from HOSTILE

Quick question - I'm a trader that's now considered hostile to the federation. Can anyone advise a way to get back to UNFRIENDLY without having to bounty hunt/fight and a system/s I can do this in. Currently in 39 Tauri.

Thanks in advance
