Enemy of the Federation... come to Sol and I shall show you a really fast way to improve your standing.

All you need to do is dump 300 units of Platinum outside a station and fly away.

Cleaning up my act at the moment, so if you ever run into me, I should be a friend of the federation! Much better than your idea I think!

One way to go is to find a system (Empire, Alliance or Independent) that has a Federation minor faction (even if it doesn't have its own station) and pick up missions for that faction at one of the stations. You might have to wait a while if the faction influence is low.

Eventually, you should at least get to unfriendly which should help you in making trades with a Federation station, improving your rep more quickly.

Cash in a ton of Federation bounties. I became allied with them from unfriendly on accident in only a few multi-million runs while hunting in Kremainn.

Local Reputation: Neutral=0, Friendly=1, Allied=2 (Graph)

I wish there were some kind of graph or percentage scale that shows progression of your local reputation in-between neutral, friendly, Allied etc.. Scale defined on wiki says:
-2=Hostile -1=Unfriendly 0=Neutral +1=Friendly +2=Allied seems to be some room in-between.

Local Reputation (Reset)

I had George Lucas star-port at Allied. Flew over to Lave station (also allied) logged out for a few hours. Got back on flew over to George Lucas and I am now Neutral. This has to be a bug right? I did nothing to lower my Rep. If Allied is +2 how did I go to 0 if it scales down why wouldn't it go to +1 friendly before neutral?

Reputation bail out and wear off

Some factions with starports become hostile towards me just because I hunted for bounty - I only eliminated criminals. As I understand it's almost impossible to get rid of this status, because one doesn't get any missions from those factions.

1. I would like to bribe an officer to get rid of the hostile reputation, sort of a bail out.

2. Good and bad reputation should wear off after a while (statute of limitation).

What would you think of hiring a courier (player or NPC) to go to the system for you and pay your bounty? That would be an interesting mechanic.

Basically you could go to a station that's friendly to you. Pay for your bounty and a mission would appear on the market to take your bounty to the system in question. Then people could take that mission and deliver the bounty payment to the destination with all of the rewards / fines associated with a standard mission. Then it's just a matter of not killing the person delivering your bounty payment.

Reputation and Ranking.

Okay, I didn't have the erm... smoothest... of starts to my career. I may have collected a few fines here are there. Docking mistakes, "smuggling" incidents, accidentally shooting at the police, that sort of thing. Youthful indiscretion let's say. But I've started to work hard running errands all around the local systems and kept my nose clean and done everything the Federation asked of me. Now I'm a proud Warrant Officer in the Federal navy. So why are the Feds still unfriendly towards me? Come on, give me a break!

I've ranked up through the feds to Warrant Officer so far, and I have been "unfriendly" with the Federation through every promotion. Surely there's something a little wrong with that?

Edit: For those missing my point, it doesn't make sense for the Feds to promote me if they are still unfriendly. (I know how to work the reputation system.)

I think you're missing my point. I know how to work the reputation system (as I assumed would be evident by my ranking through the Federation, my apologies if not).

My point was that it doesn't really make sense for the Federation to give me promotions, and access to certain systems like Sol, if they are unfriendly towards me. They still don't really trust me yet but they promote me and give me access to their home system. Seems a bit... silly.

Its easy to lose rep but hard to gain it back. You just gotta keep at it, doing missions for the minor Fed factions, it will slowly go back up. Oh, and stop shooting the cops, they really don't like that :p

Guys read his post. He is pointing up the fact that he can go up in ranks even when unfriendly with the faction... that seem like a bug.

I agree. It is a bit daft. You'd think doing missions and getting promoted would automatically get that reputation back on track.
