Tech Help

Anyone know if any version will work on win7 x64?

I've tried a couple and get incompatibility with 64bit.

I've tried compat wizard to no avail. wonder if a VM would work :S

Gimme the techie speak, i'm pooter literit, althou mi inglish leevz a bit to be deezired.

(sheesh, that was hard to type :p )

FE2 works peachy under DOSBox.

For FFE there is JJFFE and D3DFFE that run natively.

Vanilla FFE is too broken and buggy anyway, despite having been extensively patched.

With regards to FFE, I've found both JJFFE and GLFFE are quite stable although they dont look as good as FFE3D. Go to space sim central, they are all there in the download section, plus the "infamous" FFE vids too, which will work with JJFFE :D

NOOO, the mouse is out of line.... when attempting to click an icon, i need to be down to the left.

time to start fiddling

This sounds a bit like the bug whose solution was posted here though this was a fix for Vista. Not sure whether it applies to W7.

**Fix for mouse bug in FFE D3D**

1. Right click on the FFE D3D exe file and select "Properties"
2. Click the compatibility tag
3. Check the "Disable visual themes" tick box
4. Click "Apply" then "OK"

You should then get the mouse working properly in the game without all the hassle of coming in and out of Aero mode.

You *, i'll give that a whirly-gig-beetle later

IT WORKED :D

Now, I've got this unusual bug, my Cobby mkIII commander is loaded and...

The D3D mod has given me.....

67000 cargo space
class 8 hyperdrive with 286ly range
100Mw Beam laser on front and rear, and turrets?????

all the addon's you can imagine.

Also my Asp Commander has a class 4 military drive with 300ly range

and my Clipper Commander also has a class 4 military drive, with 96ly range, 100Mw beam lasers all around...

I know i've not put more than 5Mw's on anything other than the clipper which had 20's on the turrets.

Nice of the game to do so, now i've just got to remember all of the controlls, and more importantly, how to start again at different start points. I only seem to get the default Gateway in a Saker III fighter.

Sounds like an issue with your savegame files. The default Cobra III is ok.

Press "1", "2" or "3" during the opening credits to get the other start positions.

Another Techie Help

The Russian D3D mod

PC - win7 x64,
nvidia 7800gt 512ram
4gig ram
etc etc (old gaming PC, runs CS Source fine)

laptop
dell 630
ATI standard gfx
win7 x64
4gig ram

Why doesn't my PC display the Icons on the control panel above the scanner when the laptop does? Its the same install, copied from PC to memory stick this morning, then onto laptop, so same folder etc. Also on PC I'm missing part of the display at the bottom of the screen as it letterboxes the display (i'm on 4:3), whereas the laptop squareboxes the view (being widescreen) and I see everything fine.

Just play around with different resolutions in your .cfg file until you find one that works.
On my PC 1024x768 works fine, but several posters have said their machine prefers other settings.

I think it's something to do with the native resolution of your computer/monitor/gfx card, but that's as technical as I'm ever going to get :)

fanx, I set res to my desktop res 1280x1024 and it worked.

Strangley setting my desktop res to 1024x768 as per config file didn't work :S

USB Memory stick.... the way forward!!!

I keep FFED3D on memory stick.

the config files are set to 1280x1024 full screen and 1152x768 windowed.and to load windowed on startup. This means every machine i want to play it on will work. :D

I plug in the USB, open the folder for d3d and launch the game. I have 2 pc's available to me which don't play the game on full screen at that res. one has 2 monitors and just wont play it full screen, the other is 1280x800 res, so the windowing works fine for them, and on my home pc its full screen swapout...

hmmm, wonder what it would be like on the media centre PC, with the surround sound, and displayed on the TV......

FFED3D: photo missions bugged ?

Hi,

I'm currently playing the FFED3D, and experiencing systematic crash when accepting a photography mission and entering the destination system.

Is it a known problem ? is there a solution to fix it ?

Thanx in advance for any answer.

Largo

There is a known problem with these types of missions in D3D, where the target fails to appear. This is the first time I've heard of the game crashing.

The solution to the above is to hyperspace into the target system in another version of FFE (eg. JJFFE, GLFFE) and then pick up the mission again in D3D. This may assist you :)
