The FFED3D Thread

I downloaded from the temporary site they set up because people were having trouble with the main site, maybe it'll help you?

http://spacesimcentral.com/directdl/

It's around fifteenth on the list. Good luck. :)

Space Pirate if you check the first post of the thread you will see all the things I attempted.

There is no new version so the version of which you speak is identical to the ones I have and I have multiple ones from multiple places, the missing icons is a documented bug. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thanks to someone on the KS comments (can't remember who, might have been V3teran) I have found this site :
http://ffeartpage.com/ffed3d.htm
It has the FFED3D download and The video files (which are damn hard to find)

I still can't get the icons to show and I have the not clicking where the mouse is issue
but the site is worth a look just to get the video files if nothing else.

On the comments section Nats posted this link instead:

http://www.elite-games.ru/conference/viewtopic.php?t=50657

It contains all the files required by FFEd3d to work.

Look on posts 2 - 5 and download all the files to a temporary location.

Unpack them in order noting that when you unpack the models and textures mid way through it will ask you for the 2nd file because they are named wrong. (If memory serves - I did this yesterday but I am ill)

Once finished run the launcher. The settings button allows you to change things like the screen resolution which you need to alter 3 lines:

[VIDEO]
fullscreen=1 (change from a 0)

# Fullscreen parameters
fswidth=1680 (my monitor rez horizontally)
fsheight=1050 (my monitor rez vertically)

After that save and close the ffewin.cfg file and start the game.

Annoyingly it does not remember the settings from within the game - need to check out why later, so to remove the music press Escape to get the menu and navigate from there.

When playing it helps if you remember the keys ... :D

I tried this site back in March no good getting the icons. It is a documented bug that some of us are stuck with. This is one of the few place with the videos files though as you say.

Ahh the famous FFE Video files, when Frontier dragged people off the street and threatened them with a large plasma accelerator to do the lines :D

lol!

Ive been playing FFED3D heavily past month and the videos have never appeared although i do get the voiceovers. Any ideas what i should amend/change to get them to appear?

I also had issues with the Buttons on the lower console not appearing but i got them to work by playing around with the graphics settings in the CFG file. Hope that helps :)

Pretty sure the videos never worked for FFE£D have you tried JJFFE?

If I remember correctly they did work on his game :cool:

Everything I tried to get FFED3D icons working is listed on the first post of this thread. :)

JFFE was never a problem whatsoever, only FFED3D.

My boxed versions of FFE includes the CD version which of course has the videos on there. They work fine.

Im running XP and needed to adjust the graphics settings. I guess other operating systems would need different adjustments.

Im pretty sure its a graphical settings issue, it looks to me like the main console overlay graphics is in conflict with the buttons icons. Would be good if someone with the knowledge could actually play around with the graphics files themselves to fix this issue... any volunteers :p

I gave up on FFED3D because not only did I not have the icons, but in the lower 2/3 of the screen, I had to click below what I wanted to click, and that to me was pushing it. So I went back to JJFFE. Sure the graphics aren't as pretty but it works, and when I put the exe in the files I downloaded from the FFEart site (link to that somewhere on this forum) even the sound worked! Now I have the video files as well (from the same site) the game plays how it was intended to, and as far as I know, the video files won't work with FFED3D.

So yeah, JJFFE not as pretty as FFED3D, but it works

What a pain to download and put together....But i finally managed to get it all after struggling with broken files etc...But now its in the one Dir with the
FFED3D.exe to run the basic and JSGME.exe to add mods and activate.

As a Rar file the whole Dir is 200 meg...I know its been suggested and i wasnt sure but after thinking about it with the hassle i had i wondered whether it would be a good thing after all to host it in a new Mods section on the EF site... ( not sure who to ask the only russian word i know is vodka )

One 200 meg download ready to run rather than bits.....what do you think ?

TBH Synchromesh, I wouldn't. 1)Not everyone can get the icons to work (hence the existence of this thread) so people will complain, and if you're hosting the files, they will complain to you. 2) Even the Russian guys have given up on FFED3D and at least one of them is working on a new version of FFE written from scratch.

But mine is merely one opinion.

Bummer...Wish i looked here first......Doh !!
I was packaging it up nicely as well..

Thats my prob always jumping the gun :)

I see what your saying....Even so it might come in handy one day
You can never accuse me of not being keen though :D

Given that you have *overly* tried almost anything software related....

...i'll state the obvious: Hardware or (available) drivers.

Yeah, this shouldn't exist in theory - yet, it does. I know some dev of an audioplayer, and it gives me nightmares for just for how many soundchips and soundrivers, he implements "workarounds" just because the hw vendors wont fix their stuff.

I am finding FFEd3d to be absurdly difficult actually - I am getting attacked by 2-4 pirates per system. Cant remember it being this bad in the original game. Its not much fun actually because there is a good chance of getting blown up by the first hit early in the game. I'll have to try to stick with it till I get a decent ship I guess. I really hope that Elite Dangerous is slightly more forgiving.

I finally got this working after similair issues. Turns out all of my problems where related to my Nvidia card. 3 computers, 3 Nvidia cards, and I never once got icons working. I tried the mod on my latest computer with an ATI card, and not a single issue.

-_-

Irritating to say the least, but it works right? :rolleyes:

@nats

I think you are remembering the original wrong, as I play the original on a regular basis, and its just as difficult. Now, Frontier Elite 2 had easier combat, mainly because you where only attacked by one ship at a time. However, once you get a decent laser and some shield generators (preferably on a Viper or Cobra Mk. III/Asp) then combat becomes ALOT more enjoyable. The game was always this difficult, and I for one, love it. Learning to dock in Elite is what got me hooked on the series, and learning combat in FFE further cemented that love.

Been playing this new version of the FFE game for a few days and I have to day it rocks! Best version of FFE by far. Now if only I can figure out how I managed to survive for a few hours when I last played it 15 years ago that would be great!!

I got to play this one, but it felt reallt buggy and I just gave up and restarted Frontier.
I have to admit it was a letdown to not be able to play it, but looking more forward to E:D now...

LOL, I had the same issue a few years ago, but soon got back into the hang of it.

However i've been a bit cheatsome :eek: lateley wanting to visit far and wide.

Using buffet gave myself a sidewinder with class 8 military drive 65535 military fuel, 20 shields etc.etc.etc...

then just randomly jumping silly stupid distances and seeing whats in the system :D

Might have to start a new commander again from scratch :rolleyes: for practice for 2014 (slow learner :D)
