The FFED3D Thread

I've got FFE working fine, but the framerate is terrible - is there anything I can tweak in a config file to sort that out? Surely it should be running like silk on my specs? :S

Hmm, why not run it on your pc? or are you dead posh and have a computer built into you sepctacles :p

Should work I had it working on a netbook although it was a bit slow on the planets but I have not tried it out on my windows 7 system yet.

Might be something to do with windows 64?.

L according to the manual for text labels.

Thanks for that. Maybe it is Windows 7 64bit. Never mind, I nudged the details down a bit and it's much better now.

Nudging down the details helped for me as well.

Unfortunately, it seems that on Windows 8 it is impossible to Disable Visual Composition, or whatever fix is used for having to click UNDER the icons. Windows 8 simply doesn't have that option. The fix I found for this was to simply play in windows mode, and I could click on the icons themselves.

Just a fix for anyone who might have this error.

Also, I've said it once, and I'll say it again. I tried FFE on 4 different computers. All of which had Nvidia cards and I couldn't see any icons period. I moved to ATI with my newest computer, and BAM they appeared. Just in case one of you fine folks is having a similar issue.

IF you get FFED3D from the Elite Forever website, be prepared for a NEW error.

It basically keeps giving the 'no disk in CD drive' error constantly. Click 'CANCEL' instead of 'Continue' should take a few tries but it will eventually go away.

FFED3D is the least stable program I have EVER used.

I only had access to one computer with an ATI cards and all the icons worked and none of my computers with nvidia did. I wrote all about it in the thread "no icons despite all attempts". It was frustrating. Here is that thread http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2314&highlight=missing+icons

I know the team is writing a new one but it is going to take a long time.

Yeah sorry man, I read that, and even started a thread of my own before that. Its just FFED3D's awful programming. It doesn't help that nobody can help us because none of the devs speak English.

My fix so the mouse pointer can hit the buttons properly in fullscreen:

When at the screen that say press key to start playing, move the mouse to the top or bottom. The mouse changes to like you have hit the border of a window. Click left mousebutton and then left click in the middle of the screen.

That fixes the mouse pointer for me.

It will work when in the game also.

I'm trying this version, but for some reason I can't see the console buttons. They appear to be in the proper folders but just don't appear. Anyone have any clues?

After looking at the crappy planet textures and icons I think I'm going to make a mod so they look better and consistent. :p Since planet are is my specialty :D

I just wish the icons would work....ahhh well.............
It appears to be more of a problem on Nvidia cards than ATI. I'm wondering which card will most suitable for Elite Dangerous but the received wisdom is that ATI does D3D stuff better.

Here's a pic of progress I've made on the icon graphics so far. This is a pic of the Phekda system:
