The FFED3D Thread

No worries.

I'm running fullscreen at 1920x1200 resolution, and I get the problem I described.

I tried them in 1208x1024 windowed and they were fine.
I tried them in 1600x1000 windowed and they obscured part of the text.

So I guess the problem is at 16:10 aspect ratio specifically.

Mind you - I wouldn't spend too much time on it. The videos are truly awful. I can't imagine I'd keep them on for very long...

My laptop's full screen is....wait for it................ 1366x768 :eek:

yeah...go figure!
 
OK, so below is a link to download my build of FFED3D. I'm doing it as a torrent since it's so freaking huge. If you don't have a torrent program search for something like utorrent. Here's the link http://daein.delectual.com/FFED3D-Ittiz-Beta1.zip.torrent If someone doesn't mind hosting a 670 meg file on their server let me know. Again I'm not done with this but it's at a point where it's playable. Let me know what you guys think.

Oh yeah once you get the file please keep seeding till everyone that wants it has it.

Grabbing it now. I see this is almost 3x the original file. Lots of nice textures yes ?
 
I dont think CTRL & F12 works for anyone.....It was hash tagged as a Remark in the config but i dont think it was implemented into the actual coding before they stopped working on it. Or the config is still missing something....I have been playing with it myself with no luck

Thats why i was going to try to add a fullscreen button to the launcher to point to another config with fullscreen=1 on startup..

Fullscreen=1 makes mine crash unfortunately. AndyJ's one is fantastic, am trying out Izzy's soon.

I edited my son's homework and gave him an infraction last night :D

Unfortunatly I maxed out my Internet usage fo rthis month, but as soon as I roll over to next month I'll download and seed.
 
Managed to try Ittiz version.....
Good news is the icons work for me properly in a window or fullscreen but the textures have just gone nuts for me :(
The surface textures look solid...then they vanish and i can see right through the planet...as i fly they appear and disappear....

Not working well for me that one :(

The polygon culling and textures are separate issues. I fixed the blank texture problem. I haven't gotten around to look into the polygon culling yet.

The video overlap bug is a relatively easy bug to compared to some of the others. I've been doing programming for years, but haven't really touched C++ until now (really the code is actually a mix of assembly, C and C++). Also half the comments they put in the code are in Russian. So even if their commenting would give me a clue it doesn't :(

Like it says its beta...you have fixed the icons properly though it appears for me anyway so looking forward to the next version :)

If you see the comment VODKA ...Just go with it and get ed :D

But on the downside, there are some issues when it comes to drawing ships etc

and I think the same problem is causing the ugly lettering to re-appear on ships when it was previously absent.

Don't get me wrong; this project is great. I'm hoping pointing out some of the new bugs will be helpful :smilie:

I think if im gonna use any i would replace mine with the frontier vids version

No, that was Steve Tyler, a very talented graphics artist.

Going back to this new build, I can report that the reconnaissance/bombing targets do indeed now appear on the planets :cool:
I'm wondering if anyone else has an issue in fullscreen mode, where the top of the screen flickers, briefly showing the top of what appears in windowed mode? I'm running an old ATI card at 1280x1024 resolution.

It's great that the targets appear on the planets I had the problem with the Myccold mission on Hotice more times than I care to mention :rolleyes:

And they do look fantastic as well, can't wait to get stuck in.
 
Managed to get the file this morning (non peak period). I need to be careful of bandwidth.

I am happy to seed indefinitely or at least whilst this version stays current, when it is updated we can redownload and seed that one.

Have not tried it out yet will test it out when I get back home tonight.
 
Right now as you may or may not know I'm playing Oolite its very stable just want to know if FFE3D is stable since I've heard conflicting stories :S

I think (I hope!) Ittiz, Steve and Andyj are all talking to each other about the modifications they're making.

Ittiz's version is the first to get a public display (and is the version linked to a few post ago), but it is still a work in progress.

Once Ittiz has finished his version, I'm hoping he can make the source code available somewhere so we can merge the best changes from all sources into a single copy.
 
What I did was use my original 198MEG download from Space Sim Central, then apply 4 MEG of AndyJ's changed and voila.


Ittiz's is a much larger archive with much improved textures as far as I can tell. I will check it tonight when I get home.

As for stability, Oolite is definitely VERY stable but things like Frontier GL, FFED3D people have varying thoughts on. FFE is work in progress still though.

Besides bugs that came in on new effects I added, like atmosphere. The other bugs were previously there. Many of the bugs you see in the into are there, but fixed in the game itself. For some reason rendering stuff for the intro was done separately. If/when you guys notice things wrong let me know. I'll try and fix as many bugs as I can.
