THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Well next time the other characters need help they best be reminded that perhaps a bunch of explorers may be more helpful than letting an assassin cover your back.

All that happened to me was 1 failed interdiction and 1failure to get on my 6 by persons without PAC identifying tags so I don't even get to be angry at the defenders.

I'll just remain amazed by people's bad judgement, as that's what really killed her.

Think EDF did a good job by the sounds of things though.

Sooo... The Formidine Rift Mystery is the place where the homeworld of the Thargoids is, after it was infected by the Virus from INRA, the Alioth corp., and Salomé wanted to show us "the truth", meaning showing us what really happend to the thargoids? and the superpowers didnt want that to get public, so they decided to silence Salomé before she could tell anyone about the genocide?

Do I get that right?

Is it fair to say that the only rift mystery outcome of today's event was more breadcrumbs?
Depends on the aftermath of this, I'd say. If word actually goes out to the public that there's a big conspiracy and evidence for it, and that hostile aliens are coming, just when people start seeing alien ships jumping away from smoking wreckages, that could cause quite a stir.
And if it's business as usual, well... this was overhyped then.

Also, while I'm posting here: congrats to TomasEkeli / CMDR Enshiv for finding the beacons before everyone else, congrats to Harry Potter (never thought I'd be writing this!) for pulling off a memorable assassination, and greetings to all the folks who decided that keeping a known griefer as a bodyguard would be a good idea! And here I thought that Megatron constantly keeping Starscream around was unrealistically stupid.

Parsing out new clues. Potential spoilers may follow.
Teorge listening posts say "if you read the old lore you'll, know why that system". It's not much to go on but it is an open question. I did some searching and didn't find much. There is this interesting Oolite story that takes place in Teorge. With Rebecca being an Oolite character, maybe there's something there. I haven't read much of it, just that it mentions the story and the writer ask some eager question about the same system of players that play Elite Dangerous. http://aegidian.org/bb/viewtopic.php?t=17247&p=233196 Happy searching tinfoilers.

How much of the Oolite series is considered canon? I believe the last short story Altera is, and possibly Finis, but are they all?

Funny, that is not what Eisen is saying on Discord. Maybe some memories are being selectively hexedited?

yes, for clarity - you are strictly speaking correct. They were not the immediate wingmates. I was, hands up, playing fast and loose for the sake of ease. However, there were - from what I understood several wings of wings. Potter was part of the team directly assigned to protect. My understanding is that the immediate wingmates were not carrying weapons.

Just thought I'd pop by and say, thanks Drew and Frontier for the biggest laugh in ages. Everyone gets to hate a certain player and player group, who love to be the bogey men. Drew gets a nice, dramatic, poignant and heroic ending for a major character in his book, Frontier will get some column inches in the gaming press and steal some of Eve's 'political storytelling' thunder. Win all round I reckon. Nice, unscripted, player-led event. ;) :D

Yeah that sounds pretty accurate. It's ironic, in hindsight, that the posts from PAC leadership were bluntly telling everyone that if they weren't good at PvP then they were going to die, and must in that case submit to having no weapons at all, and be decoys or interdictors. The only people to be trusted with weapons were the very people who killed her, because it was assumed they were the only ones good enough to defend.

Hubris and all that.

Still, I'm looking forward to the fallout on Galnet and elsewhere.

On the one hand, I really must say - I cannot believe this is how it all went down.

On the other hand, I really must say - This is exactly what I believed would go down.

I guess the questions which remain are; just how much of this was a stitch up job by SDC, and just how little did PAC know about it - or were they entirely complicit in this and organising it from the begginging?

Either way well done CoR for doing a wonderful job of protecting your head honcho - unless of course you also wished for Salomé to perish, in which case I salute you for coming around at last.

Salomé is dead for certain this time - for that I am glad.

As for Raan, I don't care much for his survival, I expect he'll be less of a spoilt brat than Salomé was.

Who were the other two again? :p

And congrats to the CMDR who managed to pre-empt all of this about 2-3 hours before kick off by finding the listening posts first.

Wonderful job all round folks!

Drew and FDev, will Salomé get a marker in Tionisla?

Dunno about the last part. It'd be quite unfair for the press to measure this event by EVE's bar, especially with how many folks kept getting disconnected constantly. That wouldn't even have triggered time dilation in EVE and would have been smooth as silk.

I was in the Anumclaw system with a ton of other people. Unfortunately many of us couldn't even see Salome' due to instancing. I was there with my wing for a good 20 minutes. I tried jumping out of SC and back in, going to a different system and back, restarting the game but nothing I tried worked. Then she just disappeared from the NAV Map. As seconds went by, then minutes, without being able to see her anywhere in the map, I began fearing for the worst. We got the news shortly after. Initially they were saying that just a decoy was killed but then confirmed it was her. I believe that this was a tactic: get all the bad guys focused on Salome', so that other VIPs could reach their destination. Doing it this way, they knew at all times where SDC were...with her...supposedly guarding her.

I scanned all the Listening Posts in Teorge, then at the moment I downloaded the final Log, A wing of three dropped in on me, all of them were NPCs of course, and they were all grey Eagles in the "Alliance Rapid-Response Unit" wing, They scanned me, said nothing, then high waked out of there. I wonder if this is just a weird coincidence, especially how the last log talks about how the greater powers at play might of just allowed the logs to get out because there's no more use in hiding them.

Anyone want to write a front page update for me?

Scanning through the last 50 odd pages, there are conflicting messages about what happened - or should I wait and talk to a CoR council rep for an official story?
