The Formidine Rift - Part 2

"There is a secret hidden deep inside the heart of the universe. A terrible reality which once challenged the power of the divine. In a war spanning our universe and beyond the elder beings almost destroyed everything that was and what might yet come to be.

Those who survived imprisoned the horror inside a maze of nothingness. Only the complex space in between could contain their impossible forms. Their presence creates quantum chaos to what was once mathematical precision.

No faith alone can unlock their prison, but science has the key.

The elder ones await our discoveries with keen hunger."

May the fud be with you.

Ah for fud's sake :D

After reading back 20 or so pages... I am getting a serious Mass Effect reaper invasion vibe. I think we're about to be invaded. I also don't think Drew really intended for us to find what's in the rift. I think he intended for it to find us. An active invasion would be such a cool community goal.

Yup. That's why I put it together. It seems that Acheron is AWOL right now. CMDR Zach previously suggested to me I create a new Formidine Rift thread using an edited version of my journal for the OP. What do you guys think?

I'd be happy to work with 1 or 2 others to pull something together

(looks at Jaiotu ;))

Great idea!

And now the Formidine Map has Salome's front line on it, that reasonably narrows the search to south-west of it between that and the bubble. Now it only remains for some one to wake it up so it'll all be the Rifter's fault. No all our fault of course, we're all sweet innocent pawns of the rifter who go this all rolling again. The rifter upon who's head this can all be laid. A scapegoat, never leave home without one.

Sounds like the W'rkncacnter.

No one trih xeem the sun, and we should be ok.

Queue Twilight Zone music.

A misapplied quote though from Mel Brooks,,, er Michael,, talking not about this project,,, but considering the source and his hobbies just maybe we really don't want to find Raxxla???

Explaining a joke's always a bad sign,,,

fud- drivel, distraction, confusion and useless,,

which around here is called a clue.

What project is that from?

Sure sounds like he might have found a place where it fits

The Cult of Me: The Space Inbetween Preview

and that's his tat too.

Lovecraft and Raxxla have a similar feel to them,,,

"We found it! I've got the gate open,, now how do we close it and stop THEM coming through?"
'We never got that far before,,,no one knows!"
"What,, you could have told me before I opened it!"
',,, you didn't ask'

Can't tell ya how many times that one's been done.
Ah, Babylon 5 "Third Space" a good one on this motif.
The pan-dimensional Space Ticks even look pretty Yogsothothy.

Cheers - I found it thanks to Google. Gotta worry a little about that timing don't you

Uselessly vague none the less! There's an awful lot of maze of nothingness

Thanks for the update. The thread has just gotten so long I couldn't read anymore. It was almost becoming a book on its own. Loved it though... As it gave me enough reading content to go a whopping 13.5K LY. Now as far as this mystery goes... There's two things that bug me that we don't have definitive answers too.

1. Why would Salome bother faking upgrades to the Seven Viels. What's the purpose? Why would she do that?

2. Based on logical assumptions... Salome is either looking for Raxxla or this secret in the rift. So why would she go with the DWE? If she has reason to believe Raxxla is closer to beagle point, then wouldn't she be going low profile? Why go with an Expedition? If she's looking for the rift she went in the opposite direction. So. Questions. I think it would do us good to answer these questions as quickly as we can.

Don't you wish you could read the forums on the "info pane" on the top right of the cockpit HUD?

I have to say, as someone that is very late to the party, it's... a Cutter-load of reading to catch up on...

Z...

Let's try organise something. Anyone else in? It would be really helpful if a few of the guys who have been in this for a while could peer review the doc I put together, to try and start on the front foot.

Count me in. Restarting a thread with stuff we know neatly organized would be much usefull. In particular to help people going over and over the same ideas.

Some quick suggestions :
  • Clues could be color coded and grouped (blue = clues that we know are clues) (orange = possible clues, unconfirmed and quite possibly tinfoil territory)
  • Should include the latest maps of the rift delination.
  • Should include tested/excluded hypothesis.
  • It might be usefull to put in the possible interpretations of the clues that people came up with with tinfoil warnings.

I will most likely return to the bubble once I finished my crossing of the rift. The area I wanted to explore (SNR G130.7+03.1 / 3.2Kpc) is all but unreachable
(500 lyr above plane in the rift... no routes without a lot of jumponium). I'll keep an eye on things while pimping my exploration anaconda with engineers if possible*

*I hope that there will be some way of making lighter modules / better FSD ^^

Why Kahina didn't want to be late: as she wanted to observe something in the northern sky on the vernal equinox?

This has likely been figured out by someone, but what the hell.

Likely Kahina would have noticed Arcturus as it rises above the horizon in Earth's Northern Hemisphere.

It heralds the coming of the vernal equinox (the first day of spring).

It is the brightest star in the constellation Boötes (the Herdsman) and the fourth brightest in Earth's night sky. When it is near the horizon, its light sparkles nicely as it passes through Earth's atmosphere.

Arcturus also lays smartly on the R-R line, albeit with a downward vector.

Hopefully someone has explored down that route?

That vector should bottom out of the Milky Way just near the Formidine Rift's beginnings.

I know NGC281 nebula has been visited which is in the area. Also, the star BD+55 191 has been visited within the nebula.

The R-R line runs through Boötes, which itself is an interesting constellation. Within Boötes' back drop lies the Great Void or Boötes Void. it is huge spherical area that appears to be bereft of other galaxies beyond the Milky Way.

We need to be careful using color coding. For instance: this current thread's OP contains a section titled "Relevant Posts by Drew" that is practically unreadable to me. There are several available forum themes on this site and off-white text on a white background just doesn't work. A huge mistake people make on these forums it assuming that everyone is using the same theme that they are.

Bold text, italics, underlining are all good for emphasis. I'd suggest either grouping clues together (confirmed clues, possible clues, easter eggs, tinfoil) without changing colors should be sufficient.
