The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Frostypaw has figured out the answer to the mystery and he's not sharing. Torture him!

On a more serious note, can we somehow connect the Alliance to the mystery? If you were trying to uncover a mystery that both the Feds and the Imps are trying to hide, isn't it logical that you would seek help from the third major faction of the galaxy?
Now, apart from the "Alliance shines light on Prism Senator" news article, is there anything else pointing towards them?

I searched that entire system and didn't see that HMC world. Care to share so I can visit if you remember?

I will do so when I return home, I keep pen and paper to take down all my survey notes old school style so it's there, on a slightly related note I also found an HMC which read as having no atmosphere, but was not landable, I bug reported that one though.
I'll share both tonight.

I wish!

I've got two/three leads to follow up in the bubble, but then I'm declaring 'briefly bored' and poking the UA mystery a bit too. The silly thing is I'm going to come right past where I want to go for that second bit but as an early explorer these scans hold too much value for me

I don't think the Alliance are in on it currently, I'm not sure there's enough cohesion for a really good conspiracy, though certain factions no doubt have their angles I'd be surprised if all their available missions haven't been covered

Thanks a ton :) Also is it landable? That would make for an interesting landing experience.

Rereading the Galnet articles about Kahina, there are things that definitely stands out. Like this title: Alliance Shines Light on Prism Senator from 27th March 3301. Now, I know this has been mentioned several times, but If you read the whole article and give it some thinking, will you choose a title like this? I know that press likes extravagant titles, but in my opinion this is a bit over the edge. So I take it as a clue: (Alliance) Shines light on Prism (not quite sure about the Alliance though).

Second example is from this article - Prism Senator in Illegal Parking Row. Again, to me the title looks somehow suspicious, because in the article she has activated the boosters on her way out of the station, leaving for Earth, nothing else. Also there is this one Deano Blake a trader whos Adder has been impounded on Mars High. Why not write just something like this - One of the traders has told our reporters this:........" Instead you got whole name, model of his ship and you know the location - Mars High. Could be that when you check this station or it's vicinity you will find this Deano? If so, maybe he will have something to tell (after scan or interdiction) - another breadcrumb maybe. I don't know if this kind of interaction with a NPC is possible in the game, but it's worth checking I think.

Yes I know, this is another sort of tinfoilery and there is a high probability, that I'm overthinking this, but the intention was, to point at interesting and weird things and logical inconsistencies in the Galnet articles.

I was wondering how it went.

I tried to feed a barnacle Aganippe Rush to see if it stimulated it in some way.

It wasn't terribly peckish.

I'm still convinced that rares are involved in this puzzle.
It would be too much of a coincidence that Kahina was given a gift that happens to come from a system associated with a Greek god and which is a source of a rare commodity for it NOT to be a clue of some kind.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what it means.

I'm hoping that one of Frosty's leads is going to prove me right :D

On a similar note, Galnet seems very keen to remind us that Kahina supports slavery and is happy to use violence to obtain her ends.
I don't think that's entirely coincidental.

Note:
The 6 May Galnet post uses a quote lifted directly from 'Reclamation'.

Imperial Slavery. It is essentially indentured servitude, not real slavery. Supposedly.

Can't rep as I am on my phone, but +1. I think we are onto something with the light and illumination theme, and the colours created by a Prism, and the Wolf perhaps and the mythological names, but like Han Zen said a while back, I am just not sure what. It is like we have all the dots, but can't get them lined up in a picture.

Quick brainstorming on light. If we consider, that light is definitely a clue, we know it's speed (3x108m/s), we know, that it consist of weightless photons. White light is refracted through prism into the rainbow, each colour has it's wavelength (green is 510 nm, green is good, green is terra ;)) and light as a wave can have it's vector.

Hi I'm a bit late to the party but was wondering, given the quotes from Drew on page 1, what is it that makes people believe there is something else out there, other than the rift itself? (Sorry if this has already been answered in the thread)

Almost a year ago, I asked Drew if he knew what Aisling was up to, with the Prism's Shade and the Prismatic shields.
His answer was something like: I don't know, but it sure is intriguing.

I wonder if he knows now?

Just noticed that the Imperial Interdictor which escorted Kahina home from Sol was the 'Lucius' - from the latin 'lux', meaning 'light'...

Because he has told us there is. ;-)

And prism is from the Latin (or Greek), prisma...

Has anyone checked out the Lupus Dark Region? Latin for wolf. Coreward from the Bubble, but looks like it might line up with the R-R line going the other way?

Annoying number of systems starting with Lupus because of it as well, so not sure if there is one just named "Lupus". Wish we had standard search delimiters on the Galmap search. Sigh.

No system named "Lupus Est" either for "The Wolf Itself" or "very wolf".

Oh, and for what it is worth, Drew seems to be going with the Pausanias account of the birth of Autolycus, and not the Ovid account, based on the planet names in Prism system. Although it is a bit confusing with both Chione and Daedalion present, but the absence of Hermes makes me think it is Pausanias. All analysis based upon the classical Greek scholars Wikipedia and Google Translate of course. ;-)

Wasn't there an article a while back about new Imperial tech, Prismatic Shields specifically, generating some EM field or something that was mutating people?

Leaked Data Causes Concerns over Latest Imperial Technology

News of technical documents posted anonymously via the shady dark network are spreading virally and causing widespread concern among Imperial Pilots. According to the documents some of the new Imperial modules that have been appearing recently are linked to research carried out by the discredited Professor Denzile Dex and doubts about their safety have been raised.

Professor Dex has been missing for several years and it is widely believed that his sudden disappearance was connected to the 4EverYoung life-extension technology scandal. Allegations of shortcuts and the withholding of critical data were made following a spate of cases where users of the technology suffered various deforming and debilitating mutations. Dex vanished shortly before he was due to give evidence to the official inquiry investigating the allegations.

According to the latest story, research seized from Professor Dex at the time of the 4EverYoung scandal formed the basis of the design for a number of the latest Imperial prototypes including the Imperial Hammer and the Prismatic Shield Generators. Anecdotal reports of side effects from the new technology have already begun surfacing and a number of concerned groups have called for an official statement from the Senate about the leak.

One report claims that the harmonic adjustments in the design of the Prismatic Shield Generator can cause temporary cognitive impairment and even psychosis. Other reports link a form of high-level radiation emitted by the Imperial Hammer with increased rates of sterility and hormonal imbalances. One angry commentator even claimed it had caused him to develop female physical characteristics.

So, I just spent 2 days reading all the posts in this thread. Have to say that as a new player, the Formidine Rift Mystery has me hooked. I just purchased Reclemation to read. I'm currently at Kremainn RES Bounty hunting. Once I save up enough credits to buy my next ship, I'll be joining the hunt.
Unfortunately, I'm on Xbox so I won't be running into any of you really.

The more the merrier - another set of eyes and group of brain cells is always welcome.
