Because what can be found out there is "worse than the Thargoids".
Indeed, but it was named long before the Old lady even got there, so that piece of lore will have to sit on the backburner for now...

Hah! Now that is interesting - I'm in LTT 8740 now, and the system description is actually hidden until you have entered the system, at which point it changes. Very cunning, was not aware that the Galaxy Map worked like that. I wonder how many systems people didn't bother to check out because when they first looked on the Galaxy Map they got a "No system description is available"? I always assumed it meant that it was a boring, uninhabited system. Silly me. Score one for Frontier (for a change). Now if only they could have got the system itself correct, to match the book... and the permit reference...
Have a look at Haoria (another system from the book). I've been and got the system scanned, but the system description is missing entirely, doesn't even say "unavailable". What do you see?
"No system description is available". Will fly over and check it out momentarily.

Now in the system, it is just blank, all it gives you is Haoria as the system name, and the star and other data. No textual description. But there is a wedding barge! Yay!
Well now this is interesting - on my Galaxy Map LTT 8740 has "No system description is available". I have not been there so do not have the detailed system info or map. I am running the latest patch of Horizons 64-bit PC, what are you running?
Do system descriptions change from prior to entering a system to after entering it? I have never noticed that before if they do. I am wondering if the galaxies are out of synch (esp. if you are playing on a different platform, or the 32-bit version, or something?). If so that might be a very very very big bug.
Can a few others check this on their galaxy maps and let us know what they see?
I thought you didn't have to read the books to solve this mystery. What relevance is there in that case to discussing this here? Is what you're discussing signal or is it noise?
Regards.
Same as you, on Horizons 64bit. I had never been in that part of the galaxy until a few days ago, and I saw that description before I entered the system. I can still see it now as well. Could it be you're too far away? Lag from the server fetching the descriptions? Do you see descriptions for other systems?
At the risk of being run out of this thread on a rail I am going to bring this up once more... but before I start know I have good reason.
"Section PR5 row 2, seats 5&6 - Dead center ice perfect viewing height"
Has anybody tried going to:
COL 285 SECTOR PR-S B5-2
It's near the core systems. No idea what planets are there, if any. Sounds like maybe something on an ice world, maybe planet 5 or 6? Or something that's visible from that location?
I checked it out for you. There's nothing there.
Heh, yeah. Maybe the missing description is a bug or maybe nothing was written for it. Ferenchia has a description, so it seems odd that Haoria would be left out.
If only he'd signed off with 'kind regards' :/Sorry, but I have to take offense with this comment (and some of your subsequent ones too)
Now that I am here in Ferenchia I get the full description - "A busy independent system. etc etc" - again the in-game system does not match the book though, no proper Orbis station
Thanks for posting that, I hadn't seen it. I'll see if I can send a little traffic his way. Great video.
I've not heard that anyone has found anything of note on the far side of the Formidine Rift yet...
Cheers,
Drew.
Greetings Commanders,
I guess I should start my mentioning I never intended to become a rifter.

By the way, any suggestions on where to sell all this data? Children of Raxxla, Dark wheel? I know Drew said rank/status etc would have no effect but it cant hurt to be allied with those guys right?
Cheers, Pip

Greetings Commanders,
I guess I should start my mentioning I never intended to become a rifter.
As a long time lurker in that other huge thread, I was getting a bit bored looking for new barnacles, so thought I'd take the old anaconda out for a Sunday drive to have a look at the crab nebula.
At this point I was already on the outer fringes of the Perseus arm and wondered if this was a good place to try and cross over and head toward the new outer arm.
How hard can it be? I've got a jump range of about 39.6ly, this sturdy old girl can make it to the other side; and that was the same day I started reading this thread! yep from page 1!
My plan was to work my way across the Outer Arm Vacuus from the Crab Pulsar toward the New Outer Arm where it meets the RR line then work my way back along the line and see if I can find a way across the Formidine Rift from the other side
So here's my journey
Two weeks and 170 forum pages later I'm finally back in the bubble (thank you all for keeping me company while out in the black!)
I was doing well until I hit the PHO AESCS sector that's where you will see my little detour to get round it, however it's a lot quicker than the Formidine bridge.
So I guess I'm hooked on rifting, my next planned trip is to follow out the RR line and smooth out some of the bumps then try and navigate around the other direction toward the Formidine bridge, but find a closer way across and map the back side of the rift. On the way back I will compare my route to the route published by Heisenberg a few days ago.
Before this trip I intend to stock up on as much jumponium as I can fit in my pockets and dive into that dreaded PHO AESCS sector. There's something hiding in there and its laughing at us!
