The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Tinfoil will also serve as inspiration for 'real' science an exploration.

Without tinfoil, Rho Cas would probably still be unvisited.

Ah, there's various types of tinfoil though;

There's "good" tinfoil - that's those thinking out of the box ideas that can genuinely lead to decent theories and discoveries. I believe this is the type of tinfoil you refer to.

Then there's the "bat-guano crazy" tinfoil, and the pointless tinfoil. It's those types I'd love for there to be less of.

Goofing off on the thread for a bit to let off steam is also healthy.

Whales? Did someone say whales?

Ok, so also:

He runs the map exchange on level four in Mostly Harmless. From that book he says "I get this a lot to be honest, People thinking they know me ? I guess I just have one of those faces".

And from "Here the Wheel" he's Lieutenant John Graham, the Architect's batman so to speak.
I think he's an inside joke among the authors. That or he's really amazingly bloody important, and like a Level 1000 Ninja Spy dude.

Clones I'm telling you. No doubt reporting to their evil whale masters.

2814..

Genesis 28:14 ?

King James Bible
And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

In context:

Jacob's Ladder
Genesis 28:

10 And Jacob went out from Beersheba, and went toward Haran.
11 And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep.
12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.
16 And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place; and I knew it not.
17 And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.
18 And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.
20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,
21 So that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:
22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Interesting, it does sound like the elite explorer missions to go chase the myth, the legend.
You can't get there from here, but you can go everywhere from there, so it's either Raxxla or Kansas.
So there we have it first mention of Raxxla, 2814 BC.

Logic and tinfoil, bah humbug, tinfoil doesn't exist. Tinfoil is merely an expression of a lack of confidence in your personal psychosis. True crazy never apologizes and it doesn't matter how things look or turn out "you're still all wrong because I'm not crazy." You can't beat crazy, ever.

Tinfoiling the nicest place this side of Ridequat and the idea that would be Diso. Interestingly a Reorte-Diso line passes through the Rift about where the Heisenberg bridge is and out to the OOB Ain sector. If there's anything to that nudge nudge wink wink scene, one could narrow the search a bit to far side of the gap between R-R line and R-D line or the Heisenberg Bridge.
Are all the worlds from the first elite all y=48.75?

Ran into route plotting anomaly crossing the Heisenberg bridge. My route plotter wouldn't plot from 07. MYOIDEAU GW-N C6-0 to
06. MYOIDEAU CH-D C12-0 but when I got to 06. MYOIDEAU CH-D C12-0, it would plot 06. MYOIDEAU CH-D C12-0 to 07. MYOIDEAU GW-N C6-0. 36 lyr jump range. Odd.

On the alphabet bobble head advert on the launcher, just below the numbers. Thay have spelled "right on" on the dashboard......:)

Here on official business for the CoR according to her

Edit: ...and she shall be relying on CoR support in the coming days

I am back in the bubble now, but while i was in the rift, there was this particular system that i was trying to reach but couldn't with my jump range. System's name is PHRIO HYPA CL-Y G0(zero). Has someone been there or can visit it so i can get it off my mind please?

I'm not all that close (5KLY) but it looks like a standard Class O Blue-White star. They show up with a halo around them on the Galmap if that's what triggered your curiosity.

As I approach the H&S travelling under the plane of unscoopables I've not seen a tagged system in hundreds of stars. However I can see someone doing some sterling work filling in the void of the Rift in EDSM - hats off to whoever's doing that

Might be me?

And the... sigh... great... thing.. for everybody here is, since my ship got destroyed by a planetary glitch yesterday, I can tell you that about 95% of those stars are undiscovered again. I'm not planning on going back for them. I never backtrack unless I have no choice. Highest jump was around 53ly.

I contacted FDev and although they couldn't restore my discoveries, they did credit their sale and rank value and were able to put my ship back into the system where the incident occurred (Had I rebought this wouldn't have been possible). And I got the opportunity to meet Buzz Aldrin today, so all told I still think I'm coming out ahead.

Maybe this has been brought up before but... *tin foil hat*...

""If you're listening to this it means your smart enough to have bypassed Galcop, Federation, and Imperial security." The woman on the video smiled. "Not bad, but it's nothing compared to what's coming. I'm guessing you'll be pressed for time so I'll be quick. You'll find the co-ordinates at the end of this message. You'll need a tough ship and a good pilot. It's a long way, so make sure you're prepped, no one will be around to help you out. Once you reach the rift you're going to have to plot a way across. There are no stars for dozens of light years and the dark systems haven't been mapped, so take your time, watch your six." The woman leaned in closer to the recording device. "What's there? Wish I could tell you, but they edited my memory pretty good, took me long enough to stitch this lot back together. Whatever it is, it's something that Galcop, the Imps and the Feds don't want us to see. Good luck, and ... right on, Commander."

Drew goes on to say consider the core of the problem...AKA finding the coordinates! ... then finishes with the statement... RIGHT ON COMMANDERS. Tell me this is not the clue we've all been looking for right in front of our bloody noses. It's a code for the coordinates...now just to figure it out.

Yep, a few of us have been saying this for a while. Though I'd extend it a little, to the whole phrase "Good luck, and ... right on, Commander."

Actually I wasn't going to share this yet, but I think I have a possible lead on what that coordinate might be... though it might just be a load of tinfoil.

Personally I don't think so, because:

  1. She's openly offering them the coordinates so why would she hide them in some riddle.
  2. Kahina and Hasan's reaction to the text at the end of her message was not puzzlement, confusion or frustration as you might expect if the coordinates were hidden or obscured. It's just 'Shall we?' as in "let's go", as if they have the coordinates in hand.
  3. Lastly and Leesti, for FD to somehow shoehorn the solution to the Formidine Rift mystery into "Right on Commander" would be pretty amazingly cheesy. I don't think they're that cheap.
We have all been eating too much tinfoil. Throw us a bone here FD it's long, long overdue.

Although we are all guessing here, I am much more convinced that Drew is nudging us towards the original Core Worlds with this quote. If I recall correctly, there was a Galnet post at the time suggesting strange happenings with alien tech around Lave (can't find it now...), the Formidine Rift is defined as being just off the Reorte/Reidquat projected line, the Children of Raxxla's story starts at Tionisla etc. etc.

Drew is an original Elite '84 player who has spent considerable time playing and writing some great fiction in the Oolite universe. Also remember at the time of writing Reclamation the procedurally generated universe was nowhere near finalised. It thus follows that he would've based pieces of his narrative on places that he could guarantee would be there based on canon (Prism system aside, as I imagine it was specially created for Reclamation).

I'm going hunting for clues in the old worlds...
