The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Way to take the fun out of it Lorrad ;)

Look, you're right on a few things - there are many, many unknowns here. I guess as long as we're able to separate clear fact and reliable clues from the conjecture, then we're free to still exercise our tin foil brains with all the possibilities, whilst keeping in mind the actual, reliable information :)

I hope the reboot of this thread will help keep the signal/noise clearly delineated. But who knows where this goes - only Salomé (and maybe Drew/FD) really know!

Just to exhaust possibilities ... and because I like to kick the Tycho idea around still :

Ya i dont know where else to take this one... probably a dead end

I wouldn't use anything from Salome's message to the departing Rift Wings as a clue toward the Formadine Mystery. Drew's said that all future clues will be directly in Galnet. What Salome's quotes do reveal is not about the Rift. It reveals a shift in her character and the narrative around her.

The fact that she is parroting messianic quotes tells us something about Salome. Does she really believe that she has become a priestess of sorts and that the Children of Raxxla are her church?

The Formidine Rift is Salome's story, right? We can expect that her character will develop along the way through the on-going narrative. I don't think Drew will drop hints about the actual mystery itself in these 'off-grid' messages. The hints will be in Galnet. Salome's story, however, is much too big to be told within the limits of Galnet.

Jaiotu - as you expressed an interest earlier, perhaps I can send you a copy of the new thread OP for a second pair of eyes review before posting?

I'd be happy to look at whatever you have.

Bang on Jaiotu.
The fact that Salome keeps delivering pompous speeches with religious overtones, tells a lot about the development of the character. Particularly as the behaviour is very un-Kahina like.

I think that she is either doing this to exploit gullible commanders for her political cause or she is on drugs / under mind control.

Perhaps she should not have drank the large vial of Gerasian Liquor, she received on Sol.;)

I'm uninterested because it makes zero sense. Might Drew have done it, sure but if he did then I've lost all interest in the hunt, it stops being some immersive game lore based treasure hunt and starts being a random word puzzle. Why would some alien Civ plop down on a planet whose human coordinates just happen to match a verse's numerical location within a text which only works in translations done 1700 years after the fact (chapters and verse in the bible are a relatively recent modification).

It wouldn't make sense for an in-game character to quote 'meta' information from outside the game - how would that character know? It implies they're being manipulated by some god-like power (maybe it's the DDF!). Salomé is somebody who lives in 3302, as part of the story she doesn't know what's coming next. Thus if she is quoting ancient judeo-christian culture she is doing it for a reason that makes sense based on what she is trying to achieve, not because there are hidden meta meanings in what she says.

tl;dr - The quote from Matthew isn't a coded meta message, but Salomé is doing it for a reason - she's an educated lass after all. ;) You'd do better to treat her in-game appearances as a sort of 'advanced' NPC. Jaiotu is closest to the mark with his reasoning above.

Cheers,

Drew.

Thanks Drew.
Rolls of tinfoil are saved thanks to these small clarifications you make.

The conspiracies are happening in the game. Lets keep the tinfoil there.:D

And there we go. A second mystery for us to ponder while out venturing into the blackness of space: Salomé's motives. In the Reclamation we are privy to the thoughts that behind the character's action thanks to the power of Drew's omnipotent narration. Because we are all now actors on the stage alongside Kahina/Salomé we aren't privy to her thoughts. Personally I love the extra level of intrigue.

With so much info and tinfoil in the thread I've become a bit lost and forgetful. To save me from reading all the way through the threads again can someone let me know if the .,.. ......,. ... has been solved, only if you know, don't go searching for me. I only ask as I'm spending too long thinking about it and I don't want to waste precious energy attempting to solve something that has been solved.

Also the old lady in Reclimation states "..you can see the whole galaxy just hanging there"

Why 'the whole galaxy'? Why not 'our whole galaxy'?

Well, when you're in or around the rift you *can* see the whole shebang hanging there. t's a pretty accurate descrption.

The .,.. ......,. ... thing has been solved for a while and doesn't have a direct relationship to the Rift Mystery. Drew threw that out along with the 'eb, p' thing because he likes ciphers and codes. The periods and commas are directly related to 'eb, p'.

The solution: Each period represents a number and the commas separate each number. The first period is '1' followed by two periods, a space and 6 periods. This represents the number '26'. The final number, represented by one period, space three periods is '13'. That gives us: 1, 26, 13. The modern English alphabet consists of 26 letters and a common but simple cipher is known as "ROT13" in which each letter in the cipher is rotated by 13 characters. If you apply ROT13 to 'eb, p' you get 'ro, c'. This was correctly identified to mean "Right on, Commander".

For a while many of us thought that 'ro, c' might be a reference to 'Rho Cassiopeiae' which is a difficult star to reach inside the Rift. Once CMDR Turkwinif became the first to break the Rho Cass barrier this was proven to be incorrect. There is nothing, as far a we can tell, that sets Rho Cassiopeiae apart.

There is no indication that .,.. ......,. ... or 'eb,p / ro,c' have any direct implications to the current search.

Yeah I plan to make a nice new shiny one, free from any tinfoil whatsoever (OK, maybe just a tiny bit...) later this week.

Some annoying IRL activities have been getting in the way of important ED universe ones :)

Jaiotu - as you expressed an interest earlier, perhaps I can send you a copy of the new thread OP for a second pair of eyes review before posting?

I was thinking about having three opening posts - #1) Factual clues and information, #2) Timeline of events, #3) Debunked theories.

Hi LuckyLuke.

I've been busy with RL the last week or so too, so have not done the pass on your summary I was planning on doing. If you have a new first post draft written up I'd be happy to review that instead.

I also think the opening should be a big paragraph explaining in laymans terms what the Formidine mystery IS before plunging into lists of clues and known stuff. Make it more accessible to casual forum browsers so in a short paragraph they know what they are looking at.

Maybe Dommarraa would be interested in putting some words together as he has demonstrated a very level head and has been deeply involved with this from the start.

My submission to Galnet is getting published!

This will be published today.

Here's the text:

DATE: For Immediate Publication

LOCATION: GalNet - or Groombridge 34, Sol, Azaleach

TITLE: Noted conspiracy theorist comes to former Federation President's defense

Ricardo Bentonio, speaking from his residence in the Groombridge 34 system, has issued a statement of support for former Federation President Jasmina Halsey.

"They're calling President Halsey crazy when she just may be a modern-day Joan of Arc ... a conduit chosen to by the Architects of Creation to speak to mankind. The powers-that-be want to silence her voice by locking it away. I demand that a small group of scientists and I be granted an audience with President Halsey so we can find out the truth first-hand."

Bentonio was recently in the news after making his own plea for cartographic data to prove his theory that the 29th of February 3302 was an 'aberrant day' heralding the imminent collapse of the universe. What Mr. Bentonio did with that data, and whether it helped prove or disprove his theories, has never been released to the public.

Thanks for the clarification Drew.

I was attempting to say what he said, he just did it better :). I figured it was clear she had a reason, just that it wasn't an encoded set of coordinates.
