The Formidine Rift - Part 2

First off - I love that we are arguing about the meaning of the word etymology :)

I get that if you are using a straight dictionary definition it might just mean word origins to you. I think of it as more of a "study of" and includes history and historical usage. Like in the OED which not only includes definitions but examples of historical usage and how the word has changed over time. I guess what I'm saying is that thanks inpart to Ibn Khaldun who I believe wrote up the "history" of " the Kahina", she has become part of the history of that word. When I say "the Cowbell" people don't automatically assume I'm talking about some guy on the forum named Kicks... But when i say "the Kahina " ... Even if you are unfamiliar with it ... A quick search will show you who I'm talking about.

The OED never lies. Just saying. ;-)

Hmmm will reword... Sadly OED doesn't even recognize kahina as a word :). I was actually referring to the format of how they present words in context.

Probably because it is not English, and never came into common English usage. ;-)

I think they avoid proper names also, although in this case it is a proper name based on a common noun, so likely would have been included as the latter. If it had been English.

I agree with the example you are trying to illustrate FWIW.

I remembered something while driving to work today. I don't know if it's important or not, but no harm in sharing it.

"I don't like to be late"

In the prologue of Elite:Reclamation there is a paragraph that describes how Imperials are late on purpose, especially when dealing with Feds, in order to insult and enrage them. In other words, they like to be late.
Now, in game, we see Kahina going out of her way to do the exact opposite. I don't know what to make of this, but it seems strange.

Etymology: The study of the origin of words and the way in which their meanings have changed throughout history. I think we need to take out real world information about the name Kahina and only use what is given to us in game. We're over complicating things by doing so. The big word here is change everyone. Since birth her name was Kahina and she was the third daughter of Imperial Senator Algreb Loren. After the death of her family, she had a string of battles to reclaim the Prism system and then disappeared where they found her tiara in her ship, the seven veils, with the word Salome on the side of it that was at the time associated with the Dark Wheel. The Children of Raxxla have also reported to have a leader name Salome with a very close description of Kahina. Salome has issued a proclamation to the citizens of the galaxy encouraging them to join the ‘Children of Raxxla’. I think we've been going off on too many red herrings with this and definitely looking way too deep. It's a story guys, Drew is an author. He wants us to follow a path. The whole thing about become enlightened, the mystery behind the "who" goes looking for it, "CMDRs may wish to consider the, ahem, core of the problem" meaning there's something in the Core that we're not focusing on and I think what it really is, is we need essentially a key to unlock the path and it exists in the bubble. I've just become allied with the Dark Wheel and have since had weird Courier missions randomly coming up and presenting me with information. This just happened yesterday but, I unfortunately was AFK while these Couriers had approached me, but left me with a note that they were trying to contact me. Mind you I have no missions atm, and this has never happened to me before. I think joining the Dark Wheel or Children of Raxxla is truly key to this whole endeavor. Just my observations and two cents, once I finally get one of these Couriers to approach me while I'm actually in front of my screen I'll see what they're about but I had 2 approach me yesterday while I was still in game but AFK.

Tinfoil alert - Maybe its her way of informing someone (or group) that she is in fact a double agent! She's a FED!

They like to be late if it's their choice. They don't like to be late because someone makes them wait.

I thought it was a bit strange that she said that line in 2 separate Galnet posts the 2nd one was " as i said, i don't like to be late" i have not read any of the books so i am at a bit of a disadvantage when it comes to references.

Ah found it

In another administrative mix up, Lady Kahina Tijani Loren's Imperial Courier has been denied docking clearance at Mars High. Official observers report that an Imperial Courier attempted to dock without prior permission and when confronted, refused to acknowledge hails.

Unofficial, and anonymous, reports from independent traders seem to favour the view that Mars High docking personnel routed Lady Kahina's ship to the back of the queue unnecessarily, and rather than comply, she positioned her ship directly in the docking entrance and refused to move it until granted a landing pad.

Lady Kahina was later quoted as saying. 'As I said before, I don't like to be late.'

Rumours that the docking clearance officer at Mars High has been encouraged to retire early are strenuously denied by Federal administrators.

In unrelated news, does anyone else find it a bit unusual that the CG to supply Tantalum to Wyrd has been extended to a second full week? What makes that goal so important that it *has* to succeed?

One thing that caught my attention was the fact that Salomé used Tantalum drives when she upgraded the modules on her ship...could the Wyrd Raiders have aligned with her somehow?

So many possible come backs to that....

Yes, well ... to quote Christoff from the movie The Truman Show, "we accept the reality with which we are presented." If our universe is a simulation and it did have bugs would we recognize them as bugs or would we invent a religion or a scientific theory to explain the bug away?

I can imagine how the explorers in Elite must try and explain how whole patches of stars near the galactic center appear in perfect squares. There must be some science behind it, right? :)

The Tantalum CG is likely due to the fact that engineers do FSD upgrades and needs a large order of it for the additional business they're getting. They've probably extended it because it's not getting the attention atm because of the focus on engineer upgrades rather than doing pre-beta activities.

But don't almost ALL of the engineers have fsd upgrades, just some better than others? Just think it seems odd that they're insisting that it completes, when there's nothing specifically stopping them from just letting the engineers have the upgrades anyway. Would be quite amusing though..."sorry, you were too busy arsing around in the Beta, we gave you the chance to get all of these great fsd upgrades but you missed out!"

I thought with "Mayhem" the only thing that the engineers need is fish for any and all upgrades?

Haha very true, but isn't this CG in main game, not the beta? I think it either has to do with Jaques station or the preparation of the engineers entering game soon.
