Seems that the support for more advanced periperals needs some more love ...

The issue is that the alpha only recognises one device at the moment. The Warthog has separate USB for stick and throttle (I believe) and with the pedals too, that makes three separate controllers.

The devs are aware of the problem and will begin fixing it after the holidays, I imagine.

They have stated that they will be working to resolve these issues.. which is great...

I have not got the pedals, but I have found no issues with the stick and throttle as yet.

Are the Pedals good?

The only problem with throttle and stick only is that buttons 1-19 are duplicated on both devices, effectively meaning you could only use the buttons that are on the throttle control panel. You can use the other throttle buttons but it then un-maps the ones on the stick, if you see what I mean. :)

Welcome :)

I'm interested in a budget set-up also, though I am tempted by an Xbox 360 controller just because I have one already and its comfortable.

Does anyone know which controller they were using in the recent video?

One word of advice (which is why I'm holding out) is to wait until the end of the alpha.

In some of his earlier youtube videos showing the Alpha Kerrash Landing was using an XBOX 360 controller before he whipped out his X52pro. Personally speaking I am not looking to spend as much money as would be needed for the X52pro so I decided to order a Cyborg Fly 5 even though its had a few negative reviews on various forums including this one. I thought it was ok for £44 and had plenty of buttons.

Hi!

I just dropped in for Elite:Dangerous and downloaded the Alpha client.

But I can't get my controls to work:

  • Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS (Joystick and Throttle)
  • Saitek Pro Flight Combat Rudder Pedals

I tried to map the axis of all the devices:

  • The Pedals work fine, I set them up for YAW axis.
  • The Throttle works fine and gives full control (forward and backwards)
  • All buttons on the stick and throttle unit are recognized.
  • Both Joystick axis are not recognized.

Any advice?

If you have time try 'TARGET' (download from Thrustmaster website), I haven't time to play with this but essentially it allows you to create a single virtual controller from the Warthog system. Let us know how you get on?

The limitation of this is that you only get 32 buttons to configure. If your gaming software can cope with the sticks natively there are 32 buttons on the Warthog throttle alone, and another 19 on the stick.

I think you can program TARGET to have switches as modifiers though so that the buttons then perform a different function. If so that could lead to many hundreds of combinations but I think you are limited to key presses and sequences though, so that may not be strictly true!

Thank you!
Using Target to combine the controllers works fine, all axis and buttons are available.

Still need a solution for the pedals, let's see ...

Expected April delivery date in US only due to limited supply.
I'm looking into getting a decent flight stick for Elite, but at that rate, the game will be out before UK players can even order the x55

Saitek Pro Flight X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S. Full Unveil & Preorders

http://store.madcatz.com/brands/saitek/Saitek-Pro-Flight-X-55-Rhino-H-O-T-A-S-System-for-PC.html

$200 is not too bad a price, it's pretty cool if it doesn't suffer from glaring issues (deadzones, recentering and all that important stuff). Maybe even stingy me could pay that much. Although in Europe it'll probably be 200 EUR (~$272) with the usual unrealistic 1:1 conversion rates products get, or more, which is less easy to digest versus the real ~145 EUR conversion.

Weird that it's on their site before they sent emails to people who signed up on their newsletter to be informed of the preorders.

At that price range, if it's not a mistake or early adopter bonus, it also seems to be close enough to be more or less a replacement range for the X52 Pro (hopefully without its issues, otherwise that ~25-50 more it costs wouldn't be justified) rather than the X65F (which was what, 300?). Unless this version is some lower end model and a better quality (Pro or Deluxe or whatever as it already seems to have Pro in the title) version adds another 50 on top. Which I imagine isn't the case, early buyers would rage.

They have an unboxing (no assembly) video. Some bits and pieces seem like a bit too cheap plastic but hopefully it's no biggie.

There's a potentially new trailer too, I'm not sure as it doesn't seem to load for me. It could be the old teaser again.

The springs are nice, but I think I'm happy with my 52 Pro. Looks like they've moved several of the buttons off the stick(s) and onto the throttle base which would require lifting your hand from the stick to use them. The 52 Pro has only 3 buttons you can't reach without lifting your hand, other than the MFD display controls. As far as "Issues with the X52 Pro", I haven't had any. It's a sweet stick!

I was referring to the issues that lead to widespread recommendation for the use of the magnet and other modifications that improve the behaviour of the stick. Those seem easy enough to fix that a new model should be fixed out of the box.

I must have gotten a new one, as I don't have any need for this at all. A slight touch is all that's required to start motion with any of my current games.

Wow, nice setup. Looks good. I've got the X52 (not pro) and have already done the spring mod to it and it works perfect. I've got the Saitek Pro pedals, not the Combat pro though. I'm on disability so money is so tight it scream, lol. But plenty happy with the Saitek system I have. I have my 2nd Saitek backlit multicolor keyboard. Love it. Been using my first one for over 6 years. Now use that one for backup parts if I need em for the one I use now, bought 2 years ago. :)

Just to say, the mod there refers to the X52, not the X52 Pro.

The Pro variant is slightly different, and has extra hall-effect sensors in the joystick base.

Pro users do the same mod in that same thread (which has Pro in the title), just the video uses the non Pro variant to show it.

Moved and merged. :)

Why? It's one of the only new higher end hotas (not just stand alone joystick) in years, it seems worth a thread to discuss it and there are plenty other threads that could in theory fit under "joystick discussion" (or other topic threads) that haven't been merged.

Edit: well, my budget joystick advice thread was dumped here out of the blue as well. I guess real discussions are not tolerated by the moderators here (though it apparently varies by the mood, other topics haven't been moved, even another about the X-55 Rhino, though I'm not suggesting to move that as well, but rather to stop moving everything else), I'll spend more time on the Star Citizen forums then, where focused sub topics are welcomed so long as they're not actual duplicates, they aren't dumped in some vague all inclusive and hard to follow for specifics thread regardless of the angle taken.
