i think they overestimated the RRP on this, especially when you can get the set including the throttle for under £300 - apart from that, good find!

Yeah, I agree the original RRP is a tad optimistic, but thought it might be useful for someone with an existing HOTAS or throttle looking to upgrade just the stick. Quite tempted myself, but I've got an X65f on the way, so I'll wait and see what that's like.

Thrustmaster Warthog setup

Hi,

I am looking online for a good site with tutorial on setting up a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, can't find much and not even a forum on TM's site. The PDF downloads for setting up TARGET look good but seem to have some gaps. I was hoping to find a handy tutorial, community, or maybe even some config files for download.

Games I want to set up for are Oolite and FSX. Also ED when it goes to beta.

Has anyone with a x52 (non pro) have an issue with the curser (mouse pointer) moving/drifting on Saitek's profile start up?

I can normally stop this by wiggling the mouse "nipple" on the throttle in all axis directions... but before dis-assembling the joystick and wd40-ing it I wandered if anyone else has experienced a drift on the mouse curser.

Why did force feedback stop happening, does anyone know? I miss my rumbling battlemech and large cannons shuddering in IL-2.

Vibration is still there for consoles gamepads, but not economical for PC because too few users use joysticks and it never reached a "critical mass".
If VR hits off, we probably see controllers held in each hand like the razor hydra, and such devices like gamepads can also not really have force feedback except vibration.

I miss my Logitech Force Feedback mouse :(

Can't find Saitek X-55 Rhino for sale in the UK

Hi guys,

Does anyone know of anywhere that is selling the Saitek X-55 Rhino in the UK?

I've had a hunt about and can find a few sites saying out of stock but that's it. :(

cheers!

Thanks Ayo, how is it? (There's no green with envy smilie here)

I've just mailed them to see if they are getting more, fingers crossed.

I've never had a joystick before so I can't compare it to anything and I'm not in the alpha so I can't tell you how well it works with ED.

Played MS Flight Simulator X demo, Evochron Mercenary Demo and X-plane and it's been great.

It all feels very solid, responsive and accurate. Easy to adjust the spring on the stick, the tension on the throttle and the dead-zones/response curves in the software.

Until I get to play ED I won't know what it's like to use for hours at a time :) but it's been comfortable and reckon it will hold up well. The worst thing I could say about it is that it takes up a lot of desk space and I have to have the tension on the throttle all the way down for it to move easy enough for my taste.

The X55 is a good joystick.

What I would say is that you will probably need to lube the vertical shaft (oooer) to avoid sticking issues.

That aside, it feels good but is plasticky in comparison to the Warthog. The Warthog feels like a real joystick that has been nicked out of a plane, and they are currently available for £239 from Overclockers which is a brilliant price. However, the 'hog may be too stiff to move for some, and the loss of twist could be a huge loss. The build is far better than the X55 IMO. One possible consideration is the switches on the hog are mainly real switches whereas the x55 are toggles. This could be a matter of taste. It is necessary in the x55 I guess as it has mode switching, which in itself is nice and may be useful for docking etc.

I'd encourage folk to try both if possible.

The best bang for your buck was the X52 pro at 107.99 from Amazon, but that price fluctuates. It will be interesting to see what price the X55 is compared to the '52 (from Amazon). I still think the 52 is the most ergonomic, but wish it had more buttons.

I don't think you can buy the throttle on its own BTW.

If someone has a different throttle then this can be used as part of a multi controller setup in ED. Alternatively, buy the set for £239 from Overclockers this week, and sell the throttle for £100 or so if it isn't needed.

Having a general tidy of the Hardware section. :D

does anyone here use a Saitek Cyborg Evo ?

I have one, I get on just about ok with it but have two issues.

- The stick on the whole is very sensitive - would like to make it a bit 'stiffer'
- The POV switch is way too quick, it snaps straight to a 90degree angle. I would like to be able to view left and right as though im turning my head.

Does anyone know if its possible to weak these things on this joystick?

thanks.
