Good Idea?

According to DM from Michael, there's no information about mining to announce at this point. So I guess it means we won't see it in Beta 2.

Mining

See... mining needs to be like space engineers... only with lasers... like eve...

but the idea of mining in planet belts is interesting... and maybe the asteroid repopution is explainable by the random speed rocks in the dense ring around it... so it wouldn't even really have to clear out a space and have to move the navigation spot to outer more dense areas...

but then asteroid should have a general slow velocity, except occasional 'random' ones which is more like a perlin noise through time... I dunno anyway... then you might have to tag and 'stop' these asteroids, escpecially might be good ones.... even if they are pixel-destructable.

I dunno, it's going to seem like a huge vast empty space again isn't it? It's defiantly not Eve :) So other than my personal wealth what else can I do?
I hate to see the next whipe; I made (have) 6M and a (forgive spellings) lycon freighter... did flight characteristics change? Seems more larger and heavier than I remember... which is like 9M all together? I'd like to keep it.... though I suppose poeple who spent hundreds of hours doing whatever and have 200M+ want to keep theirs too.... Just ready for the next level I'd think...

Mining in Beta 2 - did David acidently confirm it?

So in the developer session today, David briefly talked about mining. Afterwards, I was unsure if he meant mining is in Beta 2 - or if he was just talking about mining in general which will come at a later point.

Anyone have any thoughts on that?

The added variety of asteroids as well as the big topic of exploration are lead-ins to mining, but doesn't mean it could be soon. Or it could be on the 30th. They don't tell us everything that's coming, just enough to get us all worked up. Now, if someone during a streaming of beta 2 happens to get a glance of some mining equipment in the outfitting, then we might be closer than it seems.

I think he confirmed it will be in the game, his quote was "So the other thing we've got is mining, we've got finding artefacts and things like that'. I think it will come in beta 2 but it probably won't be until a little later on.

Yeah, as nice as it would be I have to go with ak785 that he was talking about the game in general as opposed to Beta 2

I saw NPCs with mining lasers already. Where did they buy them?

Currently the NPCs are just faking it...they aren't actually mining anything.

As for the OP.

My thoughts are pretty much what your thoughts are. We just don't know.

*If* mining will come in Beta 2 we'll probably hear about it in tomorrows newsletter though. I'm still a bit skeptical about seeing it in Beta 2, but I'm gladly proven wrong. :)

They didn't reveal everything in the last newsletter, so there's hope for the next one... mining or not, I expect they'll reveal a few more features anyway.

the NPC's are faking an ore gather? try saying that with a lisp! :D

i think yes cause in the patch notes i read

- Added metal type asteroids
- Added ice type asteroids

but really i dont know... i hope cause how to get the ice and metal from the asteroids ?

i will see when the update is ready

Mining lasers I guess. Or if like Elite Frontier you drop a mining dredge at asteroid, then pick it up when it's done.... But I'm leaning toward mining lasers for this.
