The next update 2.1 Engineers (1.6 to basegame-only owners) scheduled for April release?

If you'd have told us that in the last newsletter or a forum post that would be totally fine and acceptable imo, I really have no problems with that.
However, what does grind my gears is that you keep quiet and only admit it when its leaked out.

I'm sorry, but c'mon man we, your loyal fans deserve better treatment than that. Just be up front and honest, if there's going to be a delay, so be it. no big issue. Stop giving us the mushroom treatment please!

Oh for crying out loud dude.

As soon as they reach this decision they HAVE TO (and I mean legally have to) inform their share holders. They can't tell anyone else first. They can't sit on the information for a bit and then announce it.

If they do they can be so comprehensibly financially screwed that they go out of business.

As it stands that statement was released today and you have the Exec Producer here explaining what it means to the fans. They could not have handled this any better. It is excellent service to their fans and to claim otherwise comes of as a bit childish tbh.

And what about others releases planned this year :

Are 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 all delayed too ? 2 month is quite qn impact in terms of planning. (I could understand that, always complicated to plan complex work).

Braben mentions delay in return for commitment to quality.... which to me seems to indicate a delayed release of Engineers.

The writing was on the wall when they released that bald Engineer pic. Its always the same, artists just can't get the hair right! Its the hair's fault :D

Maybe everybody is bald in Space. You never leave the cockpit so who's styling their hair?

There will almost certainly be other sections of the team working on the 2.2, 2.4 and 2.4 features alongside the 2.1 release.

For example, on Lave Radio last night David Braben said that they already have people working on stuff for the 3.x and 4.x seasons...

Wow, 2.1 won't be out until June this year? That leaves only 7 months to get all the other updates out if season 3 will be ready for December, which I thought was the plan.

I assume there will be (slight) delays for the other releases too. Unless they choose to postpone some features. I for one would have thrown multicrew to another season and focus efforts on more planetary features and content: for the few we know about it, it presents no real interesting usage without other key features (FPS/EVA/walk in ship/station/on planet)

We have to communicate this news to the city first - it hasn't 'leaked' we announced our decision.

Michael

This may be common knowledge for people in the UK, but is completely puzzling to me as an outsider - why do you have to tell the city (Which I may interprete as a synonym for the ministry of finance?) before anyone else? And what is stopping anyone from telling them first, then 5 minutes later the customers? :D

Same question as to Michael (I doubt he will have time to answer) - is there any specific definition of what constitutes "first-ness"? 5 minutes before posting it, say, on the official forums, technically is still "first", after all.:)

In the capitalist society that we live in, the customers (that's you and me) aren't the most important people to a business.
That would be the shareholders, and the business has a fiduciary duty under the Companies Act 2006 to inform their shareholders of anything that may materially affect their investment in the business.

The fact the the CEO has made the statement to the City, and the Executive Producer has commented directly to the customers in this thread, everything is being done above board.

So take a chill pill, kick back and play Elite. :)

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed about this delay, though I understand the reasons behind it.

Could FD let us know if there are to be any patch fixes due in the meantime - the broken missions have been around since Horizons beta.

Like others I'd be keen to know how FD see the rest of the Horizons updates panning out after this delay.

Thanks

You have the news the very day it broke, what more can you ask for ?
And really, what difference would it have made if they had told us next week ?

Legally, the market has to know first. If Frontier were to pass this info on to fans first, they would be able to sell their Frontier stock (if they anticipated any fall in the share price). Investors would not have this info (as they probably don't read the weekly newsletter) and therefore be placed at an unfair disadvantage. This is why the market has to be informed first (and insider trading laws exist).

I fully expect this week's newsletter to have addressed this, even without it being posted here.

So notify the Market at the same time as the customer base. With the stock exchange so well protected on its very fast financial connections. No customer would be able to offload shares quicker than a shareholder whose shares are managed on the Exchange. Delays in notifying customers in favour of shareholders can leave a nasty taste that can affect share prices from falling sales due to poor reputations.

Great, take your time. Finally I might get some time to play Witcher 3. :D

Since this will almost surely push back the rest of Season 2, I assume that season will now last as long as it takes until 2.4 drops. So future seasons might not be a year, but 3-4 major updates instead. As long as people have a rough idea of what's included in a season, I think most people will be fine with that.
