That's very interesting, because the original publicity for NMS definitely stated it was a PS4 game exclusively - I remember because it sounded so interesting and I was disappointed that there was not to be a PC version, as I don't have a PS4. It was then announced some months later that it would also be released for PC, so if what you say is the case then it was originally designed for PC, then a deal done with Sony that only covered a PS4 version, then when interest picked up the PC release was included again after all.

It was announced for PC long before (Dec 2013) Sony came on the scene (Jun 2014) and threw lots of money at Hello Games. That's why people were annoyed when they thought it was suddenly going to be PS4 only (which Hello Games later clarified to be not the case).

According to this article from June 10, 2014 http://www.pcgamer.com/no-mans-sky-gameplay-footage-shows-dinosaurs-and-space-combat/

"Previously no platforms had been announced for the title, but tonight's conference specified that it will "come to consoles" first on PS4, which basically confirms it will be coming to non-consoles as well. I mean, it's not 100 per cent... but it basically is."

I can well believe the prototype was built on PC for VGX in 2013 when it was first revealed, and that a PC version probably has been happening all along, however PS4 was definitely the first platform formally announced for release.

I'm excited and nervous about NMS. I'm not a big sandbox fan, but I like to get sandy every now and again.

On the one hand, the whole offline ability of NMS is really interesting, as well as the land on planets and walking around w/out a rover too. On the other, its another 60 bucks! Thats not that cheap for someone like me.

Edit: I also don't belive in pre-ordering.

yep. If you go back to the dev video's (there are links in this thread for those interested) Sean tells you this chronology himself. Sony were 'woed' on the back of what they could show for the PC version they had been working on.

(an old post in this thread from Dec 2013):

They have been doing a bunch of interviews with sites like RPS (most linked in this thread). It is currently running (so being built on) on PC and is planned as being for PC primarily.

They have expressed an interest in seeing if it can also get onto consoles, and with their previous console experience (Joe Danger), and with some guy from Sony apparently in talks with them, it seems likely it will come to consoles also.

As for DRM there is no info on this, although if they do also have consoles on-board, chances are it will be a big publisher release, so likely have all that crappy DRM stuff. But that is just conjecture as they have not even mentioned the DRM thing at all.

Also note this has been available on pre-order from GoG for a few weeks now, GOG (and RPS for that matter) is PC only, and GOG is DRM free (to answer the DRM question from that old post!).

@Hellhawk666, it has been pretty confusing, and yes once Sony were on-board (from mid 2014) there were some press releases (mostly from console only gaming sources) that it would come on PS4 first, then PC later. Sean later had to address this in one of the video's, stating that PC and PS4 would release at the same time (and reading between the lines it seemed Hello Games had to 'fight' for that from Sony perhaps?). The PC native version will have some modding tools included, the PS4 version won't (as far as info on modding that has been released).

The draw distance issue seems to be most noticeable on the PS4 currently (most of the latest game footage has been on from the PS4 version), and you certainly did notice the change from the earlier video's that were the PC dev version build. Sean is not happy currently with this specific technical issue and it is being worked on (not sure if that is for both PC and PS4 versions or just the PS4?).

I have to laugh at these journo's who play a game for half an hour, enthuse that they've barely scratched the surface and then espouse how deep and complex the gameplay will be.

The screen shots are stunning - really exciting to see the fidelity. I can understand some not liking the cartoony look of NMS, but I really like it, and the variety of flora and fauna looks promising.

I've not pre-ordered yet, but I already have a big red X marked on my calendar for the 22nd June, and the next few days 'booked off'.

Dunno how I'm going to cope if 2.1 turns out to be epic... ...gulp!

Happy Daze! :D

Really curious to know how they tackle the alien life and animal hunting mechanics, Love that vintage sci-fi look and the fact that there's plenty of colourfull planets!

So is it confirmed that NMS will not support HOTAS? If so, epic fail as far as I am concerned. With HOTAS, I would give it a try.

Wait what? Where did you read that? What about single joystick support? Oh man if that's really gone, I wont be bothering with the game at the full price.

Hmm I hope it does do HOTAS.

Then again it's not really clear where you'll be spending most of your time, space or on a planet's surface.

Problem is that I cannot find a clear statement, that is why I posted the question.
NMS is a more casual mainstream game, it's not really likely they will have HOTA's support. Specially when the game gives the vibe it's more played on planets surfaces, than outside them.
It's TBA though.

Given that NMS started out as a PC game, before Sony got involved, I'd be very surprised if NMS didn't have joystick support for the PC - but nobody seems to know.

Either way, I'm really not bothered, and if I end up playing it using a gamepad I'll not be overly concerned as I doubt the fidelity of the flight model will need a HOTAS - as Max says, it's seemingly not that sort of game - and it'll probably be easier to swap from flight to FP to flight without any undue kerfuffle using a gamepad.

Only now I could see the video calmly. I was surprised by the depth that the game will have even adopting a more arcade style game. The way you find the cave was really interesting. I can not wait to get my hands on the game.

Just watched this.. have to say it does look impressive, I really hope 2.1 is something special or come NMS, half the ED userbase will jump ship.

Never quite understand this "jump ship". I have NMS preordered, I'll be playing it, I play other games besides ED! IS normal right?

It's not like being married or something. =p

Anyway.. Kinda avoiding watching any footage. From what I've seen so far I think the interest in this game might be unravelling the story, the game, the mystery, what's going on etc..

The less I know I'm thinking the better it will be. :)

I have a copy pre-ordered...

It looks interesting....and might have mass appeal to get more people looking into other games like it.
