Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

Just been told that first person for ground vehicles may only be for VR.. Anyone confirm this ?

View distance seems much shorter, than it was.

I've just flashed up the game in non-VR and I couldn't see the quick menu option to switch to first-person view, unlike with the ship or on foot.

I'm not seeing any difference in view distance - if anything it looks more distant in VR, to me at least. I think that may be down to rescaling jiggery-pokery though.

Had another chance to play NMS in VR on my Rift S today. Does anybody know if there is a setting to get rid of the way the periphery vision goes dark and narrows as you walk in any direction?

I can’t find anything to change it and it’s horrible. It seems to knock about 5 to 10 degrees off my FOV and it’s really jarring. I didn’t notice it at first but now I have I can’t unsee it lol

Under control options..........disable VR Vignette

Anyway.. Still not getting first person in vehicles.. Anyone have that problem ?
Haven't tried, but I've seen several complaints on Reddit about first person in vehicles not working in screen mode, only in VR. People are petitioning for first person on screen. Don't understand why they haven't/can't do it.

I thought First Person was looking out through the eyes of the player and that Third Person is looking at the player... Everything in VR according to that is First Person perspective rather than third.
As 3rd Person in VR is 'unusual' maybe it is yet to be incorporated.
(If i have them the wrong way - my misinterpretation and I'll withdraw quietly)

I think it's more the matter of what can they push out in time for launch, most probably.
They were focusing heavily on VR, I guess so the monitor plebs are playing second violin in this update.

VR doesn’t fit that necessarily. The main thing with VR is you are in the game, not looking at it. In platform VR games you look at from a disjointed godlike position. A floating head in space is what it is like.

People that have VR know it is hard to explain and nothing like people that don’t have it think it is like.

Really would like to fire this up again. But this would be my 3rd install. The previous 2 didn't stay on the hard drive more than a few weeks at most.

I'm thinking it might not be my thing in general but this update might be the one that adds the certain something over been missing.

You get 1st and 3rd person correct. However, while first person is more common in VR there are plenty of third person games or option in VR too. For example all VR racegames I know allow both 'cockpit' and third person view.

Unless you are on dial up or have limited disk space, does it really matter? Give it a try.

VR without touch controllers isn’t going to work well Ian. It will be a vomit comet and all the positive aspects of VR will be lost I reckon.

I dont get that argument, if people can play Skyrim, ED, subnautica and such in VR with a gamepad, why not in NMS. If some dont like it they can simply chose a different control method. I never play any VR game with touch controllers...
