Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

I think it's more the matter of what can they push out in time for launch, most probably.
They were focusing heavily on VR, I guess so the monitor plebs are playing second violin in this update.
Sure, but the 1st P view for vehicles have been strangely missing from the game since they were introduce a long while ago. They gave us 1st and 3rd for space ship and for the legs, but not for the land vehicles. Not sure if there's a technical issue or what.

Anyway, I'm sure it'll get in there eventually.

On another note... a pirate scanned me and he decided not to attack because I had nothing valuable on me... that's a first. Don't remember that ever happen before.

I dont get that argument, if people can play Skyrim, ED and such in VR with a gamepad, why not in NMS. If some dont like it they can simply chose a different control method.
NMS has been great in many different ways but one thing they never been on top of is support for multiple/alternative controllers.

I should have some actual free time this weekend, so I’ll have to dust off the old DK2 and 360 controller and give it a go. I don’t have high hopes of support for kit that old, but worth a try :D

Err, it has supported gamepads just fine. Heck, how do you think people play this on consoles? HG simply broke gamepad control for many with Beyond due to a... sub-optimal move from XInput to Steam. For everyone it (and remapping in general) it's broken in VR, remapping is broken in pancake too and many lost basic gamepad support there too.

It's just one of many, many problems with this update, but I am sure it will be fixed. Hopefully next week, I guess we have seen the last experimental patch for the week. :)

I meant NMS, not all games and it isn’t an argument. Having played it with touch controllers I don’t see how not having touch controllers would work without undermining the entire VR experience.

It is supposed to be Virtual reality not a massive screen right in front of your face.

How it would work? Exactly the way all those others do. It's what people have been asking for since launch: the game as it is, but with VR. Not 'a massive screen in front of your face', but VR. Like ED had VR. Like Skyrim had VR. Like subnautica had VR. Like countless other games have VR. Not sure why you argue against it. Those who like to swing controllers about it can do it, those who don't won't have to.

If you wouldn't like it, cool. To each his own. But arguing it won't work or can't be done is just silly.

I really don’t get what you mean? I’m not arguing against anything. I’m just saying I don’t see how it could work having experienced it.

Sure, no problem, I'll explain what I mean better:

You have played NMS in pancake mode? That is how I want it to work, but in VR. Like, it's a game, that you play, with a gamepad, in VR. Like other games that use gamepads, but now with VR. Those parts where you walk and fly? I want to do that with a gamepad. In VR. In a similar fashion to other games where you fly and walk in VR. With a gamepad.

"But what about the parts where you use the motion controller?"

I don't want those parts. I want the game, in VR. With a gamepad. I think I covered the general idea by now, but if it's unclear just ask. ;)

If you start from scratch, yeah as far as I know. If you play in Creative mode you probably get everything from start.

It would be nice if they had a quick-start way for seasoned players starting from scratch, skipping the story at least, or give a different path to get the blue prints that was shorter.

And... I truly want a Skittles-off mode in settings to make space black and without rainbows when you fly. I'm getting a sugar rush every time. 🍭
If you're on PC definitely keep an eye on mods. There's a mod for exactly the thing you describe and I'm sure it will be updated for Beyond.

I said "alternative" controllers, with which I meant things like HOTAS, 3DConnexion, or whatever else. I think there was a mod to get some Thrustmaster working, but I'm not sure. It wasn't in the game before. Not sure if they have it now either.

Ah,yes. I tried with two different HOTAS but that was... poor. :p Ideally I'd use a gamepad for walking and a HOTAS for flying but I doubt that will ever work well. :(

Agree. I rather walk with pad but I still would like to be able to fly with a HOTAS. At least the Thrustmaster for XBox. I mean, shouldn't the buttons and control chips be basically the same as the pad?

Now I'm going to try it to see if it works... :D

You did that with the current version or a previous version of NMS? I haven't had a chance to play with Beyond yet but I was really hoping I'd finally be able to map ship controls to Hotas. The patch notes do mention that throttle and roll are analogue inputs now, so there's hope.

Previous version. Will try again when the remapping screen is fixed.

I plugged in the HOTAS but it didn't work in the menu. Just realized that maybe I should try to see if it shows up in the bindings?

I don't mind the VR hand controls for walking. I play a lot of Skyrim and Fallout VR so I'm used to it. But I hate the flight controls. I've never been a fan of the "hands in the air" controls. I'd be ok with just a game pad for flying. Also the flying FPS is pretty poor. Walking around performance seems pretty decent though. Other then that I'm enjoying the game.

You're joking.

I shall presume then that you were not one of the players who, for example, suffered from the bug earlier in the year where the game unceremoniusloy and randomly sent you back to main menu or crashed and made you loss all progress in that session. This went unadressed by HG for months and I really hope Beyond fixed it.
