Game Discussions The No Man's Sky Thread

You did not state in the transports... Mining lasers is built in to the multi tool on foot..
Actually I did state it: "...mining laser in VR in the Nomad. "

The "Nomad" is the hover craft vehicle (or exocraft if we should insist on using NMS nomenclature). :)

Anybody besides me playing in creative mode these days so they can skip the grind and just explore?
I did in the previous version. In this version, I started a new save file from scratch for the challenge, and probably at some point I will go back to the Creative mode file again. It's so much easier to build a base in it. No need to be concerned for resource gathering.

I'm playing on the PS4 now for the first time (going back to NMS' roots ;) ) and right now I have two games going. Normal and Creative, with roughly the same time on each. I still go through the Artemis quest in Creative though, even though there probably isn't any point.

On PS VR you just hit the weapon select button then normal fire button works..
Open your controlls for your specific hand controllers..

I did normal mode last year, still have my save, so I've "earned my wings" as they say. I wish there was an in-between mode, where I could make whatever I want if I have the materials, or just buy that stuff (like fuel) with credits I can earn from trading. Having to blast rocks to refuel my ship gets tedious after awhile, and having to do stupid errands for my base crew to unlock blueprints pushed me over the edge.

Creative mode, on the other hand, lacks a lot of the challenge (like being mortal). That's kinda a bummer, but I can still learn languages, dig up things, scan planets, etc. As for supplies, I'm pretending to be Captain Kirk with the full resources of the Federation at my disposal. Now if I can just find the right freighter to claim as my Enterprise!

?? You mean on the icon/control on the right hand wrist?

Yeah. I thought it would be something like that, but there's no icon on my right hand for some reason. And my whole left hand is missing. I bet you it's a bug then. Dang it.

I'll see if the latest patch fixed it.

Yeah. It was a lot to do, but I feel it has been less in the update. The compressed materials when you asteroid mine help (not sure what it was called) and many of the basic blueprints now are available at the Nexus. And the Nexus access is fairly early in the game. I got most of the things I want after 10 hours. But then, if I want all the building blocks for the base... oh, boy, need a lot of nanites and salvage tech.

No its a button on the physical controlls not in cockpit VR .. check Steam VR button mapping...
For which ever PC VR version (index, rift and so on)..

You mean the fire button (right hand trigger)? That's the button for speed up in the exocraft. RT for increase speed, LT for slow down and reverse. I tried to click all buttons on both controllers. No mining laser happening.

But I will check the mapping and see if there's anything to give me a hint.

Very pleased i reinstalled this now. Have been playing it a lot last few days.

I've not much went near the base building things though yet. Havent found anywhere that I'd like to place roots so much.

Have you guys bothered much with base building?

At times, yes. I did in Normal mode quite a bit for a while, but it was very tedious. And in the old Creative, there were things that weren't that great, but in the new Creative mode it's so easy, so before this update, I was base building for a while. I found that doing the underwater base was a lot of fun. Found a water planet with just few small islands and started from there.

In normal mode I tend to only build the things I need to progress. Usually my end game is to get a capital ship and a fleet.

When they introduced it (base building), I played with it for a while. But really the game is about exploration, so bases isn't really something I bother with now. My old base hasn't been visited by me for a very long time, forgot where it is and not too bothered finding it. I have all the vehicles but don't really use them apart from the Roamer, which I use from time to time. They sort of made vehicles obsolete when they introduced 'call your ship'.
HG tend to do some things backwards it seems.

Exploring is great, but could be really great, if they spent a little time on it for players. Abandoned cities (with story line to follow etc). A more varied outlook on wrecks. Long forgotten species to find and so on. Not via quest, but you find them naturally through exploration. Then follow a line of inquiry type thing, to find out, who, why and where.. That type of thing.

Just a little more time on exploration for players, would really please me.

One thing I do enjoy is visiting players bases, farms etc and looking around. There are some really creative people knocking around. ;)

Indeed. Its obvious that this patch was for a few QoL bit as well as the mp and VR mcguffins.

I'd love to see them turn their attention now to more focused storied exploration in a similar or better vein to subnautica.

I do enjoy this but I have niggles. One of the most annoying is visiting the cartographer and having to hand in navigation data in exchange for planetary charts....one....at.....a...time, having to go through the canned conversation each time. I hope they sort out stuff like that.

I think, now that they have covered a lot of the other stuff, that the next update might be aimed more at exploration. Can't see much else they need to put in.
It's what I'm hoping for anyway.

Space Engineers are putting an economy in the game in a few days, there will be a dlc to go with it (more cosmetic things I guess). So I'll be off looking at those for a while. Hope it works well in game.

Btw, has HG mentioned anything about the direction of future updates?

Last I saw they weren't planning anything else - but if they have a good idea they may do another update. Sounded like they had some other games they wanted to work on - ones they would get paid for ....
