Some ideas about Elite IV
If done properly, Elite IV could become a little like Second Life with people managing a spacestation in the Elite world, or being a Police Pilot, or entering into the Military to combat the gangster/pirate clans that would surely emerge in a free-form online game and become a real threat without organised resistance. Maybe you could be the gunner on someone elses craft, or on a huge military ship, or a scout. Maybe you could own a shop and trade things with other people who land at your planet/spacestation. Maybe you could become a gambler in a casino on an orbital, or maybe a thief. Maybe you could earn skills as say a ship mechanic/technician and repair other people's crafts for credits. Maybe you could be a stockbroker buying and selling shares in companies. Maybe you'd be a Federation tax collector hunting down tax evaders.
If the game is designed with enough flexibility the possibilities for 'employment' are almost endless - not just trader/pirate/bounty hunter.
One can even see a stage where ones REAL job is a job in the Elite Universe - earning REAL money from it.
I think even the basic Elite 1 as a multiplayer game would form complex interactions if it simply had a instant messaging feature, let alone Elite IV...
Ahh...I see just about all these ideas are already out there...many apologies! Maybe the mod wants to put this in the correct thread???
