"The Outter Worlds"...

Why? I think it's exactly the case with TOW. Every mission can be approached in a number of ways, some missions you will not even find if you choose certain routes and associates. I've now spent about 10 hours on the first planet and about half of the stuff I've done is different from my first playthrough, so I think I'm good there.

I would definitely recommend this game. Maybe wait till it's on Steam so you don't have to deal with Microsoft or Epic (I think the exclusivity is only 6 months, here and there will be a hefty discount on Steam once it's there I'm sure. And maybe even some DLC (although I haven't heard of anything planned in this regard).
As I said, length of the main story is my ONLY complaint. :)
As I said before it's piqued my interest, but definitely plan on waiting for it to appear on Steam along with whatever dlc they develop for it:)

I think that's fair and reasonable.
Honestly, I'm going to buy it on Steam once it releases as well. And delete the Microsoft account I was forced to open.
Plus I do think that for what it is (the general scope of the game etc.), a price around 30 quid would be quite right. The 50 bucks on MS Store is a kind of a stretch. (then again I could have had it for game pass 1 dollar monthly trial if I really wanted)

Okay, so for my second playthrough I decided to have a bit of fun.

And what's the most fun you can have in an Obsidian game? Why you create a character without intelligence, of course!
That has two distinct effects:
1) you get an extra point to spend on your other base attributes. (If you wanna be dumb, you gotta be tough)
2) You get a new [DUMB] option in convos and boy is it hilarious. Just like the old Fallouts.

Having a total blast with my dummy, who doesn't have a clue what's going on, but has a heart of gold and knows that the baddie over there is in need of some good whacking.

I'm roleplaying this one hard.
1) Never say no and be 100% gullible - If somebody asks you to do something, do it.
2) If somebody's getting hurt, bullied or threatened, go head in to help them, damn the consequences
3) Shoot fist, ask questions later
4) If in trouble, [LIE]
5) Otherwise, always choose [DUMB] when there is a choice.
6) If no [DUMB] option is available, choose the most blunt or direct answer/question

I've gotten myself into (and surprisingly - out of)... many interesting situations, let's say. :)

Balls,
sounds like a good game, will have to wait a year. By FD stardards I should be use to waiting by now.
If you mean because of the "Epic Exclusive" thing - it's not as bad as the other ones. It's also on the Microsoft Store (not that it's much better, but still, at least you can get it through game pass) and on consoles.
And the Exclusivity is only 6 months in this case, so it's not as bad as, let's say, Control. That one is really bugging me.

Well 6 months then. The microsoft route requires Windows 10, which is definitely not happening. Thanks though

Only a few hours in and I have had to kill most of Edgewater and I think a possible companion depriving me of quite a few quests. Love it, just not very good at it...

Just read an interesting article on mmorpg.com (yes, there are signs and wonders) that makes me want to purchase the game and I can't wait when it - hopefully - will appear at GOG. This article, while pointing out the strong sides of the game, highlights what's so wrong (and most likely just not possible) in modern MMOs, but nowhere so blatantly lacking as in ED: storytelling and consequences. It's quite frankly a slap in the face of our beloved game. Looks like a really fine RPG, just don't make the mistake and compare it in any way to ED. What I said above wasn't really a serious comparison. Both games are antipodes to each other and only share the space theme.

Here's the link:

While I wholeheartedly agree that TOW is awesome and that it is exactly what we need - a singleplayer, offline, no MTX bull game with strong story and variable missions that won't get boring during its whole run, and while I'm not a fan of MMOs (except three), I don't think this is a reasonable comparison.
It's like pointing out advantages of pixel art platformer to show what's wrong with modern days first person shooters.

Maybe when (if) it comes out on Steam... but I'll expect it to be cheaper, since it won't be a new game by then. I'd say between 7.00 and 10.00 at most.

I've found these concluding lines form said article expresses exactly what I feel (and isn't related to ED but modern games in general):
...

Well, this is the "general games" discussion. I expect stuff to be not related to ED in general.
I hear quite the mixed bag. Some seem to like it. Some think it's too short. Some don't like the colours. It doesn't sound so bad so far.

Oh yes, sure. But ED is also a game and a small potshot should be ok I recon? Main point was about modern gaming in general, anyway. And then I don't buy games for their favorable weight per Euro ratio (I should have paid 5000 Euros at least for ED if that would be a thing). I mentioned this article above because I purchase this game for its general approach back to the roots of what gaming once was and away from this current shallow modern gaming fashion with zero spirit. Take it as "voting with my wallet" to the gaming industry, no more no less.
I feel AA and indie is the best bet to look at. AAA is infested with overmonetisation and obsessed over graphics. The more people voting with their wallet the better.

Well I just finished my first play through of this game and I thoroughly loved it!

As others have said it is very much like Mass Effect (combat and map sizes) but with the sensibilities of Fallout (dialogue, dark humour and moral grey's).

I completed all main and sub quests and hit the maximum level and it took me about 38 hours to finish.

I really liked that the big choices you are faced with actually affect the game in a tangible and permanent way, something I wish Bioware would actually do in their games rather than just talk about doing it.

I dont often play games through more than once, but I am going to start this again tomorrow and build a different character and make different choices to see how it plays out.

I was getting a bit worried about the state of these kinds of RPG's with the recent output of Bioware and Bethesda, but it looks like I need not have worried.

I cant wait to see what Obsidian do with the sequel now they have Microsoft backing them. The future of RPG's is looking bright!

I think that many folks prais the game as they compare it to latest RPG titles like Fallout 76 or Andromeda that in general fell flat on their faces. If we look at OW through those then yes its the breath of fresh air and a ""phenomenon"in AAA industry.
Personally I find it just OK but nothing more than than that. And its not "me" as I still absolutely love Mass Effect 1-3, the Witcher, New Vegas and my latest discovery Final Fantasy but in OW I did not find any hook that would sucked me in as much. Actually not going to even finish the game :(

First play-through, I focused primarily on the story - didn't do much side-tracking; and always took the direct approach. I finished the game in less than a day.
Second play-through. I'm doing everything. I talk to everyone. I break into every house I can. I'm on my 3rd day so far.
So, YMMV.

Couple of other games to come out before end of the year, but right now it's my game of the year. Well worth the price tag, IMHO.

I am enjoying ToW. I put in a few hours on Normal to get my footing and then I started a Supernova playthrough asap. It was way too easy to steamroll through on Normal without even trying. So far, SN takes solid tactical plans to win fights and it requires close management of my companions in combat, because they have permadeath! It feels like a totally different game from Normal difficulty. I haven't even unlocked my bunk on the Unreliable yet!

Have you switched the companions' tactic to defensive? It helps a great deal because they try to run away on low health. Also (and I can be wrong here, but it very much seem true) when you use the heal, they use theirs as well.
