The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

I think the wrong article got linked.

He talks rubbish about console gamers being the only ones that will get CQC as they have ADHD or something.

Then he just none answers the other questions about expansions, says that the planetary landings/FP mode are still coming.

Since I cannot believe a word that comes out of his mouth or from Frontier I cannot accept that as confirmation of anything at all. Confirmation is "It will go in Beta X date" then it's confirmed. Till then it's pie in the sky along with everything else talked about in kickstarter and since that is missing from the game

That's one of the most open interviews I've ever seen David Braben give and it kind of annoys me. Why couldn't Frontier release something along those lines onto the Forum? It answers a lot of questions about the combat arena thing and as far as it goes it's pretty clear. This is exactly the kind of thing that should have been released alongside the trailer.

A little bit disappointed the CQC sounds like an external game mode rather than being embedded into the game (i.e. a station/system that you can jump to and participate in), but still sounds like fun.

One question though - why do the ED trailers always show stuff that isn't/won't be in the game? They say CQC will only feature small craft and then the trailer shows Asps and Imperial Clippers flying to the CQC station, and multiple capital ships flying in formation when that's never happened (that I know of!!) They do kind of give a false impression of the game. I guess the Asps / Clippers could be just spectators.. ;)

I don't know why people are wanting fp and pl so early. FD haven't even got the basic game fleshed out yet so selling paid dlc now would be a kick in the teeth tbh.

I've already paid for them both so that;'s not an issue with me and I do want them but there's no rush. I'd be surprised if they get announced by this time next year tbh. Holidays 2016 for the first one would be logical going on the current state of development any sooner and I think they'll be half baked and badly implemented.

Most games get sequels every 2 years or so. I don't see ED as being a game that will get a sequel next year since they still have not even finished the basic game (in my opinion but maybe not FD's). Even so, it is likely (in my opinion) that FD sees these expansions as sequels to the game in release terms. if done correctly these add ons may be major leaps forward in the game worthy of being considered sequels.

You have to remember that a game franchise follows a certain model for release to make maximum profits etc. ED does not follow this model and so in order to make maximum impact on this market it is possible these add ons will be treated like sequels and require 1-2 years development time each.

One major paid expansion per year (around Christmas) seems likely too me (which means one at the end of 2015)...alongside continued free updates to the core game at the same time.

If they try to release an expansion at xmas and the game is still lacking a basic economy, background simulation and mission system then I think FD will be lynched.

They have to treat the expansions like whole new games tbh as it will be a lot of work.

While a correction has been issued - IMHO 3rd person wouldn't be terrible and actually make more sense.

Worked for Mass Effect. Also would allow Frontier to sell more character customisations.

That was always going to be the case anyway ... I can't see how anyone would think it was going to be before that ...

I don't expect that myself either, and personally i'm in the "too early for that"-camp anyway.

But as long as it's neither confirmed nor denied, the speculations will continue.

That's why i mentioned Gamescom as an "indicator".

Wow, you're really optimistic. Right now there's only one platform active and they still mess up every major patch. And then it takes a major amount of whining on the forums to get things fixed because FD refuse to listen to the beta forums unless the screwup is so major the entire forum erupts. Now let's quadruple that. ED core and PL dlc on pc, ED core and PL dlc on Xbone? I'm fully expecting ED core updates to slow to a crawl as soon as the dlc comes out, it'll just be too much work for them.

Oh neat. Now how about first person mode where I can board an enemy ship, shoot their CMDR and take the ship!

That would be coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool.

Or board stations... and blow away all the station command inside... take it over and hoist the pirate flag! ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!

Meh ... Braben has a string on his back. When you pull it he has a number of phrases he can repeat including "it's coming", "there's more", "yes, other things", "I'm very excited", "we're very excited" and "errrrrrr .... oh look, a rollercoaster".

indeed, lots of talk no show.

As credible as the description on Kickstarter.

Last interview I read he said boarding, multiplayer ships, planets and walking around are ´pie in the sky´ features.
Guess at this point they just tell us what we want to hear for damage control

I´ll reinstall FE2 with Dosbox or something or wait for No Man Ski

Wish there was crossplay, oh well. But it's understandable that updates need to pass stupid console bureaucracy before they are allowed to patch the game on a console lol.

I've spotted a pattern...

Might I suggest that OP edit the title as it's misleading, No point of view is mentioned and the author of the linked article has noted this at the end of the read.
