In the stream Mr Braben said that planetary landings can happen all over the galaxy (except in areas where there may be a permit required ... HMMM).

I wonder what that means for example if you land out in unexplored space ... will there be things to "discover" on the planet or moon and will there be an exploration payout and rank bonus?

Maybe if we can sample the surface?

They did say they want to give people even more things to do while landed, with a lot of ideas thrown around, but they didn't give any specifics.

I wouldn't rule out some exploration features, like for example taking soil samples.

Regardless, now if you get bored in the deep you can take a spin around a few craters and kick it in CQC. Exploring was fine for me, it was the lack of ability to do anything else.

In all seriousness, there should be objects you can load up into the RSV to put in your cargo hold if that is the case. Just my opinion.

I've moaned about the missions, endlessly; about the direction, sometimes terrible; and particularly about the dreadful Powerpants: a disaster.

But this is seriously good news - a real advance - and now endless whinges about pricing.

Get real.

Agreed, this is literally one of the things the majority of the player base has been wanting since the very beginning. Now it's here and there is yet again, nothing but misery on the forums.

Lumping moaners all together as moaners is perfectly logical. Perhaps include whingers with moaners? Would you prefer I lumped them all together with the enthusiastic? That would be silly.

Same here, I just hope it lives up to expectation.

The pain of power play and the broken mission systems and poor background sim will all be worth it if horizons is a hit.

Reckon I've seen detailed analysis of people charting the Planetary Landing launch in Elite all the way in 2016 to 2017 time frame. Even more posts on folks assuming its coming early - being shredded to bits!
Now that they've announced it - we suddenly hear "meh! no we expected it". You Humans! That's why I frag each and every one of you in space commanders !

That much is true. I expected we'd fly around the planet in our ships, and maybe--MAYBE--be able to set down, get out and walk around. Rovers are an interesting touch.
