The Planetary landing and planetside missions discussion Thread

Confirmed by DBOBE himself in the recent Twitch Q&A with Sandro where he mentioned "orbital cruise".

The way I understand it, you drop out from supercruise into orbital cruise, which invokes the same transition like now from supercruise to normal flight, but after that, no more transitions.

It is of course also possible that as part of Horizons they will revamp the supercruise/normal flight system so that it becomes actually, genuinely seamless.

Landing on planets 15k Ly far from Sol

Hello to all, so how it will be? I guess we should have different presets of airless planets depends on civilization infection. For example on populate worlds we will be able to do all things that have been announced. But what about non-populated worlds? I guess mining its a very nice job to do, but why we should crossing all galaxy on other side to mining? I think there should be point to do it - new extra high cost ore. I hope we will see it in Horizons.

Ant other ideas?

Are planetary landings going to be seemless?

So what I mean is that we dont get a loading screen or the game doesnt stop/freeze/stutter (e.g. when going into or out of supercruise). So will it be totally seemless like demonstrated in No Man's Sky? I very much hope so. That would be a fantastic experience.

No, but they're going to SEEM seamless (if yiou'll pardon the pun). DBOBE mentioned an "orbital cruise mode" that you'll use to take you between supercruise and orbital height (we assume). It's the drop in/out from that orbital cruise which is where the next instance will load, much as it does not with supercruise and hyperspace.

Seamless? Are you sure about that?

So I've been thinking about the Horizons update and specifically Planetary Landings. I am really excited by this and the alternative gameplay features it will bring. But 'Seemless'? If so, I have a question.

How does the pilot get from their cockpit to the RV and back again? Without being able to wander around my ship, I assume the transition will be 'magic' where the pilot is teleported from one seat to the other?

Walking around ships! CONFIRMED! :D

Simple. They won't have seams, just zips to join everything together.

The same as what happens when you buy a new ship.

You know? That amazing lengthy fully motion captured experience where the pilot climbs out, heads into the dealers office and sits on a chair for half an hour drinking some coffee from the machine while he waits for some guy to bring him some forms to fill in.

You hit "4" and choose the RV. *poof* your in the seat and on the ground.(assumption)..Or, might have to "launch" it out of the ship...

"Seamless" will be as "seamless" as going from FS to a station/NAV/RES..etc..Im not sure it that is really seamless or not..lol "No loading screens"? true.."Seamless"..hmmm...debatable...lol

I know what you mean. After seeing the rather long-winded "getting into the seat" animations in that other space game, I did wonder how FD would handle it.

Jenner

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
....pilot cannot exit seat to get into Space RV..... 'Blocker' detected, abort Horizons, abort!!! AHHHH!!!

New Horizons ETA - delayed indefinitely. ;)

I suspect it will be similar to changing ships in station, in that you are briefly rendered unconscious, only to find yourself coming to in the cockpit/bridge of your other ship, with no recollection of the journey between them.

In other words, seamless :D

Flunitrazepam anyone?

Like how you get from the outside of outposts to the inside? Press a button and your chair sinks into your ship and slots into the SRV, which is stored in a hangar below in the belly of the ship. Hatch opens, off you go! Never have to leave the chair.

Probably just a quick fade to black then a fade up in the RV seat, but man it would be cool if there was a canned animation of you getting up and walking to the RV seat.
