Codex Fun;

Ok lets start with the Children's story of Princess Astrophel and the Spiraling Stars

Just looking at Elite Dangerous material... We have the return of a Classic Children's Show in Galnet.... The Andromedaries... a story about Camels in Space. I like to think its referring to the Andromeda constellation. - Andromeda also had a Camel at one point.

The Andromeda Myth - can be considered an archetype of the Damsel in Distress - or Princess and Dragon story.... which leads us to Michael Brookes story "Legacy" which I think just earlier in this thread it was mentioned that it had been expected to cover "Raxxla content" - what if it did?

There is a section in Legacy about a child and her book - "I had no form of entertainment except for a book, a single book about a young man's quest to save a princess from an alien dragon." (Im just ignoring the Sun Dragon book by Brookes to avoid that rabbit hole)

Currently we have Stargoids racing towards the bubble... Spiraling stars? and then there is Seo Jin-ae (Project Seraphs D-2) I half expected her to be the Far Gods new First Apostle... Imperial Accent ? Maybe she is a princess - we should tie her to a rock and feed her to the stargoids.... Just a thought.
Well, it’s an interesting thought that there perhaps is a Raxxla-related storyline but it’s been going on in the background. I usually view that type of galnet item as pure filler, but maybe there’s something more to it....🧐

And well done! Top marks for esoteric knowledge! I never heard of a camel constellation before. Every google search goes straight to Camelopardalis, the giraffe!

Seo Jin-ae (Project Seraphs D-2).

Sep Jin-ae is a good fit. The name is of Korean origin, meaning truth, treasure and love. A Seraph is an angelic being.

Thargoids, have been described as female, potentially like bees so very likely there then ought to be a Queen, and it’s suspected they have a hive mind.

If Sep Jin-ae can control Thargoids then technically she can be called a Princess, and those goid stars, well they are spirals.

But how is her story related to a child’s story?

Sadly if true then this could be a herald of a Raxxla centric narrative, that’s truly saddening because that would mean that the codex is part narrative foreshadowing.

Personally I’m not so sure, it makes no real sense for FD to publish a text years in advance of a narrative subjects insertion, as it leaves it open to discovery and restricts your narrative movement. It’s also very un-imaginative.

If taken literally this means FD changed something or at most it’s not ‘currently’ accessible, but again I find that unlikely as it’s outlandish.

If we accept it’s currently ‘accessible’ that alternatively could identify that FD simply has been re-purposing historical narrative influences. This might make sense if they made some historical narrative diversion…

That raises a point for discussion. If anyone found Raxxla should they disclose
a) that it has been found? &/or
b) its location? &/or
c) its nature?

I hasten to say that I haven’t found it...but so many people seem to be getting such a great deal of enjoyment in searching for it that I did wonder whether it would be fair to terminate that quest? I don't think we’ve ever discussed this point in this thread!
Good points

My personal view is that this is such a huge item in Lore and with many folks contributing to the search that Fdev may well be keeping this safely under wraps.
I hope that they see this as a huge expansion or future DLC/ direction.
I remember having a copy of that alien life book when it was first released and Raxxla always for some reason stuck in my mind.
For me i would like to see it as a gateway to another system, an ancient connection to a long lost visiting race but for Elite that would be a huge step going from systems which are mostly following the galactic order of our understanding to those in games such as NMS.

You could argue that the presence of alien life has already crossed that threshold.

Ive thought hard about the way Raxxla could be discovered, would it be right for one commander to take the glory of this discovery when so many have devoted years to searching for it?
Many of you on here have made it your main goal (whether you care to admit it or not) and im not sure how some would feel if a random spacer made the discovery by happy chance.
This 'fairness' i admit played on my mind for a bit, what if i found it? Im active in searching for new Guardian ruins but what if i found it by accident, would i ignore it? Im pretty sure i would feel unentitled compared to the dedication you folks have to the quest.

The answer to my own question actually came from listening to some old lectures i have recorded from the late, great Professor Stephen Hawking.
Re running some of those old lectures detailing the basic timeline of our understanding of the origins of the universe i was amazed at how many discovery's were by accident or folks not looking at that specific task.
When Wilson and Penzias made their huge discovery was it right they got the credit when at the time they had no idea what they had found? after all they weren't even looking for it!

After the KTL debacle i think anything other than a reveal by the developers could cause mass hysteria, which is why it may well be better to just let sleeping dogs lie.

So do we start looking for info in game then looking for it outside?
To my mind, that's like asking 'Do I use Lord of The Rings to navigate up Scafell Pike' which would clearly end up with bruises. What's in game is real in that universe. Out of game references are only of use if they are indicated by in-game references. There is also the official lore, but this is like history books. The Bayeux tapestry doesn't help with how to wage war in the 21st c. - the lore books are historical accounts, useful for background.

Ofc it gets more grey when there are vague hints in game that look like references to out of game texts, which is why we have 1373 pages of speculation.

The final issue is that the game is riddled with human error, so some in-game data is incorrect, out of date, self contradictory, etc.

As Rochester alludes to, we are in the uncomfortable situation of solving a problem without a problem statement and with no guidance. Add that to a near infinite search space..

I am of the mind these days that the Raxxla … path… is going to be played out in the storyline (atleast in part). The name Iraxon Lane is another recent narrative bit that seems to me to be indicating this. Not really sure how Or if anything fits … but i think there was probably an outline of a narrative arc drawn up (which included raxxla) early in the game ( and from the sound of it changed over time) It has always felt to me that some of the early galnet tidbits were intended to be prophetic later in the game… Still wrestling with how they are making princess astrophel fit in though …

As much as I dislike the idea, I think it is possible. Particularly if Raxxla is actually somewhere in the permit locked systems around Barnard's Loop. I only bring those up because they weren't actually permit locked when the game launched. I've been through some of Col 70 myself while I was visiting various stars in Orion. I can't remember when exactly that permit lock was added to that region, but it was early in the Horizons season.

Browsing around today I noticed a lot of inaccurate attribution on a few websites. I thought it might be helpful to clarify a few things:

Initial background guidebook discussion group:

David Braben (Frontier)
Michael Brookes (Frontier)
Andrew Gillett (Frontier)
Allen Stroud
T James

Dave Hughes was invited into the group at my suggestion.

Allocation of drafting work:

Empire, Alliance, Federation - Allen Stroud
Collation of existing fiction - Michael Brookes
Initial Old Worlds region timeline work - Dave Hughes
Thargoids - T James

Later addtions:

Covert Ops - Allen Stroud (Most of this was never used).
Interstellar Police and Law Enforcement - Allen Stroud (Most of this was never used).
Corporate Guide Book - Allen Stroud
Stardreamer technology and Invention of Mark 3 Hyperdrives (last document I wrote. Not sure if it was used).
Some stuff on Artificial Intelligence, a few additional star system notes - Allen Stroud

Note, this was drafting work. Most of the documents were produced and then edited and changed by Frontier in the discussion and outside of the discussion with their own teams.

There was substantive discussion over the Elite game context (Old Worlds) and how it would be incorporated into the game. In the end, as there didn't seem to be much agreement, and we were all on a deadline, I wrote the guidebook for that as well.

These were the only people involved in the discussions in that period. I can't speak for anything later.

There are one or two wikis which seem to suggest other people were involved. They weren't.

A lot of the guidebook material that was produced ended up as the the text for many of the tourist beacons, a fact that continually makes me smile.

I been reading up on old Galnet Articles that Ricardo Bentonio guy is interesting lol. I link you 2 different articles that I can only find so far. See if you see anything interesting.

Aliens Kidnapped the President

Freelance Report: Conspiracy Theorist Defends Halsey

Edit: Interesting enough I tried to figure out when he changed his Show name from " The Hidden World" To "Behind the Curtain"

It was around the time he went from Theories of President Halsey to Thargoids Ships.

No real criticism, Rochester, but as a colourblind folk I personally find the .jpegs hard to process. What are you using to render them? If it's a web service do they have a permalink to the specific render? I don't want to ask you to redo colours because everyone will perceive things differently!
So sorry; your absolutely correct, it’s a very basic IPhone Mod App, no permalink option, the images are standard screen-grabs.

The choice of image creation app is simply 100% selfish. Ironically I am trained in mapping and have access to mapping tech, so I’m well aware this is a very basic design, but the app was used solely because I have very limited time outside of RL work, so this is a fast, sloppy fix that allows me to punch in X; Y; Z points, rotate and get a screen grab.

I’d love to have the time to build this correctly but alas I can’t afford the time, nor can I utilise work tech due to security issues; these sadly are only rough drafts.

*edited - images brightened, gamma shifted, hope they’re more agreeable.

As I said, no biggie! I was just curious if you had an easy solution for me! I'm currently babysitting a bunch of friends out of their sidewinders so I'm just skimming Raxxla content for the time being.

I am very happy to alter the colours if required - that is not an issue, is there a particular pallet which suits. If there is a particular format of graphic as well please advise :) likewise I can insert the file as a download, but you would need to obtain the free app.
