I feel it might be good to bring up "The Space In-between" again....

Brookes was fond of Drabbles – there was a thread early on dedicated to them here in the forums somewhere.... On his blogspot he wrote this back in 2014 under a drawing of Yog-Sothoth.

There is a secret hidden deep inside the heart of the universe. A terrible reality which once challenged the power of the divine. In a war spanning our universe and beyond the elder beings almost destroyed everything that was and what might yet come to be.

Those who survived imprisoned the horror inside a maze of nothingness. Only the complex space in between could contain their impossible forms. Their presence creates quantum chaos to what was once mathematical precision.

No faith alone can unlock their prison, but science has the key.

The elder ones await our discoveries with keen hunger.

Later he comissioned a drawing which he ended up getting tattooed on his back... It was also called "The Space In-between". I think we are all familiar with that drawing.... I bring this up because while he might have structured his maze using Milton.... I think it was filled with Lovecraft....
Ive said several times that we really might not like Raxxla when (if) we find it!

It may be an Easter Egg, but it may not be 80% cocoa solids with brandy truffle filling
It may be a Queen Thargoid Egg!!!

I expect tentacles. Lots of tentacles.

Time to take my Courier for a spin with a manifest scanner and see if I can find any Trinkets of Hidden Fortune in the Artemis system.

Something in my head is telling me to compare the distances between the tourist beacons (possibly relative to a hidden sixth location) and see if there's a sequence in there.

I also plotted the beacons thanks to @Edelgard von Rhein. My general concern is these beacons actually look far too separated to be meaningful for triangulation, however I suspect this is intentional obfuscation, and the first step is probably far more important…

The first step of the tour actually traverses right through the ‘underworld’ sector…. very close to the system Pandemonium!

I think this is intended and a pretty big hint, that this specific area is key… question is how?

On a closer inspection the first tour comes very close to the projected path of Jacques… I believe something is in this general hotspot area!

Following this line of the Brookes tour, when we apply the hypothetical 2296 sphere of influence there is one system which sits right on that boundary and directly in the path of the tour, ICZ GM-V b2-4.

It’s likely a coincidence as I actually believe this tours purpose is to draw focus upon these ‘lost realms’ in game.

Got a Manifest Scanner rigged for fast scan at Tiana Fortune's (appropriately) and have done some scanning in Artemis.

There were many High Grade Emissions signal sources today.

I visited a handful of Convoy Signal Sources, all Threat 2. These fell into two categories: Imperial military convoys with Antiquities (these have been around since 3301) and civilian convoys with ordinary goods under pirate attack. I helped to defend a couple of times (my Courier is armed for a minor skirmish like this).

Next I visited The Legacy again and scanned ships and some wakes (lightweight mod on this) but found nothing unusual (ordinary goods and tourist passengers). I docked and listened out for conversations around the bar but heard none.

Finally, I repeated this at Freeholm. With the tourist beacon next door there were more tourist ships around. I saw a variety of companies' vessels but none by Brookes' Galactic Tours. The holds of non-passenger ships here often had low temperature diamonds - I even saw a T-9 with almost 300t of them! Otherwise, no interesting cargo. Upon docking and visiting the bar I did hear, faintly, some conversations. It was hard to pick out the details but it seemed to be general chatter about investing in weapons and finding things worth plenty of credits by travelling away from the Bubble.

An indication that a conversation is going on from a distance appears to be a character making hand gestures. Not all characters making these gestures are conversing (but all characters that were conversing were making them). Some lines only appear once. Sometimes characters would split up and walk away after the conversation. I think these may be worth listening to as I think I later caught one of them having another conversation elsewhere.

There are no belt clusters in Artemis even though the system map shows a belt. None of the planets have rings. There is still plenty of scope for rare scenarios in signal sources with more unusual cargo.

IIRC Trinkets are in trader ships in Anarchies. Seem to remember encountering a Dolphin with 100 close to Shinrarta; after the shark frenzy I got 5. You’ll need collector limpets.

Within the various reflections on that image Brookes does confirm it was inspired directly by Milton, but is likewise a mixture of Lovecraft references.
As described by Brookes:

“John Milton meets H P Lovecrasft in an epic tale of cosmological horror”

The Drabble itself is a direct description of
his vision… atleast an early version of it.

How much of that is part of Raxxla is still a big question though. Maybe the Far God knows….

In Paradise Lost Eve is not the meek character perpetuated by the Church, nor is she evil, she is intelligent and Adams equal, the fall is actually linked to ‘knowledge’ and ‘growth’ as Gods love is effectively ‘being’ ergo stillness in perfection - knowledge is forwards momentum and evolution…
You may want to look into the figure Sophia from the Gnostics and pre-Abrahamic era. She serves a role very similar to Eve but unlike in Christianity and the Abrahamic faiths is a very strong woman. There is a famous poem called "Thunder, Perfect Mind" that I suspect is being referenced by Project Thunderchild in the GCS Saravasti logs (Saravasti is a word for wisdom).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saraswati (this is alternative spelling for the same wisdom goddess)

P.S. - I suspect Salomé is supposed to be modeled after a strong Eve or Sophia-like character.

And Archangel Michael! 🙂

I think Thunderchild is a likely reference to The War of the Worlds, where it is portrayed as a ship that is the last defence against the Martian invasion iirc. This seems to be the role that Project Thunderchild has against the Thargoids, although I'm not aware of any evidence of it being active.

I'm not sure if I've been to Pandemonium, at least not for some years, so that is also something I can do over the weekend. The path of the Brookes' tour and the Jacques route being so close could be coincidence but my detective side is screaming "there are no coincidences" at me.

Any thoughts on this area? it’s the first system I’ve found which falls on the 2296 sphere of influence perfectly - when we apply the line of sight for Brookes tour!

I’ve since been here (in legacy), nothing to report but still I believe the first tour is intended to draw our attention to this general region.

On the outer rim

Lost Realms by Robert Holdstock and Malcolm Edwards

Raxxla as a Miltonian Eden lost realm of Holdstock

*this post will be editing as new information becomes available

So finally reading through this book after seeing others recommend it, and what is striking about it is how similar it is to the Codex, in regards to lost realms.

Now it’s easy to assume coincidence, but treating this as an information gathering exercise there are too many similarities to disregard it. And I’ve come at this backwards, unintentionally. And now I do believe it is one of the primary source materials used by FD as a homage to Holdstock and Raxxla. as a potential mythic lost Eden.

Page 11 and 13
Looking at this from a perspective of someone who might have an affection towards Milton. The page opens with an allegory of Eden.

IMG_7172.jpeg

Eden is painted in the book as a lost kingdom, compared to the Greek Hesperides, located in Arcady. Then the Elysian Fields in the underworld , then the Celts Avalon and Lyonesse. Then on page 13 Prester John.

It follows onward and on throughout the book listing several other lost kingdom’s, many of which are in game.

The rest of the book then attempts to merge these myths with examples of fiction, eg Lord of the rings, Cthulhu at R’lyeh or factual lands like Troy.

But the book has more similarities with the codex, were the focus is upon mythology. Such as the Amazons, Atlantis, Artemis being from the north wind Hyperborea, and of course El Dorado.

Many of the lands, which Holdstock seems to link together as examples of a lost paradise, I’ve also identified in the ‘underworld’ sector in game.

The text also draws in the mythology of the Greek Underworld (also depicted in game in this same region). Drawing many connections with the ash tree Yggdrasil roots and serpent directly with areas of the Greek underworld.

This is a revelation.

Later in the book there is an obvious segment on Yggdrasil, but it is mentioned more than once elsewhere, and a telling number of references alluding to ‘world mountains’.

The opening introduction also talks of the longing to find these lost realms and return home to them, I can’t help but see this as a reflection of the term ‘fernweh’ although I can’t see a direct quote on that yet, I feel it’s more an invention of Brookes…

Now in previous posts I’ve pointed out that I came to my theory by postulating that the ‘Underworld’ in game around Axis Mundi, Persephone and Pandemonium, is a hotspot area because of the concentration of systems named after lost, sunken and mythic kingdoms, similarly or identical to those named in the Codex.

I was brought there by the tale of ‘Cora comes home’ an allegory for Persephone and ultimately the sphere of influence made by the date in the codex of 2296. And the fact this area sits directly below the Yggdrasil systems.

We now have FD bringing our attention here again with tales of Artemis, John Milton and the Galactic Tour plunging right through these lost realms.

I believe now the tale of ‘Elite Legacy’ by Brookes was another way to draw us to the Artemis system, and for us to draw some yet unknown link or conclusion towards Persephone, and from there discover Pandemonium, and following those, ultimately to these lost realms of Holdstock.

So why build all these various references in game, centred around one location in game, which so obviously mirrors that of Holdstocks Lost Realms?

I believe Brookes has replicated Holdstocks ‘Lost Realms’ in game, as a template to obfuscate Raxxla.

phonto.jpeg

Obfuscated on the outer rim, these lost realms do actually fall perfectly upon the outer shell of my 2296 sphere of influence calculated from the Codex.

I believe it is this area which was alluded to in the older DW missions as being obfuscated on the outer rim. Something is here….

Assumptions:

The number of systems named after Cities of gold, Sunken or Mythical kingdoms is finite, it seems initially apparent they are placed together, their positions however may not be wholly arbitrary. Its possible they’re eclectic areas have a finite reach or shape, it looks initially that they all coalesce into this focal point.

Its possible there is a general centre point or intersection, if there is no other purpose for this region it may be Raxxla (or something else) is simply hidden within this area.

Likewise Raxxla maybe in a system but utilises an unrelated naming, it maybe those systems which fall within or around this area are potential candidates.

Recommendations:

To continue to log as many mythic lands, especially those specific to Robert Holdstocks book and update existing maps so as to identify any commonalities.

Investigate systems within this area not attributable to lost realms as potential candidates.

Ya i just felt we were kinda lacking in nameless horror in this thread lately
Is it wrong that I've been tempted to poke the hornet's nests that are the "unauthorized" installations (search criteria is centered on Lave as lore starts there)? I found out about these only through trying to understand the Thetis Generation Ship in Nefertem. I am still convinced it passed by one of these prior to all hell breaking loose upon that generation ship. Along that same line of thinking: what exactly makes these installations unauthorized, some outposts "unsanctioned", and some navigation beacons "compromised"? I ask this because my squadron, A.O.E. Allied Order of Exemplars, inhabits one such system possessing a "compromised" navigation beacon. Oddly, I've noticed that finding our home system by searching "Darwin Research Facility" on GalMap rarely if ever works. Yes, there are other places in the galaxy named Darwin which are readily findable. However, it is like our home system was made intentionally difficult to locate. For the record, I had found it a great many years ago when I started studying the Alliance the sites in the nebulas are definitely linked to the Alliance.

I've had a minor revelation about the Trinkets of Hidden Fortune:
What if the fact that they are illegal almost everywhere is a hint that we are not supposed to sell them, rather that we need them in our hold for another purpose? Perhaps simply having one will allow us to see something not otherwise detectable.

I'll fit a hatch breaker limpet controller to my Courier, which will leave me with 8t cargo space (I can scoop manually but maybe I ought to use my Python for this work...) and start at Demeter, then head to Ahti and make sure I have a Trinket of Hidden Fortune in my hold before I search the lost and sunken worlds near Pandemonium and Persephone. I would suggest that anyone else exploring the area do the same, though I appreciate it may not be too easy to find any.

“This container appears to hold an assorted collection of low-value trinkets, knick-knacks and statuette (AHTW statuette-Grandmort?). Such trinkets are generally used by superstitious pilots to try and win favour with the lady Fortuna. However, these particular knick-knacks have a much more valuable prize hidden within.”
I checked - Trinkets container has label “NEX0275401977” VESPINE TRANSPORT SYSTEMS, number is same as SAP8 container (goids ignore both)

Fortuna was the Greek deity Tyche

Sorry my classics are rusty, so obvious when you view the original source. Tyche was one of the Moirai (Fates) (in game Moirai is relativity close to Artemis)). One of Tyche parents was Okeanos.

Tyche in game is relatively close to Helios. Who witnessed the abduction of Persephone.

Pausanias, Description of Greece 4. 30. 4 (trans. Jones) (Greek travelogue C2nd A.D.) : "Homer is the first whom I know to have mentioned Tykhe (Tyche) in his poems. He did so in the Hymn to Demeter, where he enumerates the daughters of Okeanos (Oceanus), telling how they played with Kore (Core) [Persephone] the daughter of Demeter, and making Tykhe one of them."

She was also a playmate of Persephone. Homeric Hymn 2 to Demeter 5. “She [Persephone] was playing with the deep-bosomed daughters of Okeanos (Oceanus)

Homeric Hymn 2 to Demeter 415 ff :
"[Persephone relates the story of her abduction to her mother Demeter:] All we were playing in a lovely meadow, Leukippe (Leucippe) and Phaino (Phaeno) and Elektra (Electra) and Ianthe, Melita also and Iakhe with Rhodea and Kallirhoe (Callirhoe) and Melobosis and Tykhe (Tyche) and Okyrhoe (Ocyrhoe), fair as a flower, Khryseis (Chryseis), Ianeira, Akaste (Acaste) and Admete and Rhodope and Plouto (Pluto) and charming Kalypso (Calypso); Styx too was there and Ourania (Urania) and lovely Galaxaura with Pallas [Athena] who rouses battles and Artemis delighting in arrows: we were playing and gathering sweet flowers in our hands, soft crocuses mingled with irises and hyacinths, and rose-blooms and lilies, marvellous to see, and the narcissus which the wide earth caused to grow yellow as a crocus."
