I'm happy to do a search, i need a periodic break from Pareco. Are you sure the road to riches route hasn't changed in the last 10 years ? If you were following an older version the route may no longer take you near the area of interest. Is it possible to find previous versions ?
Capricorn is only about 120LY from Sol, so seems reasonable as a putative raxxla location in 2296 for someone to have been that far and returned.
Thinking critically, could it have been something other than a gas giant (cool star perhaps) ? Was the installation on a body or in space, its not clear from your account
Do you remember (or think you remember ) anything else at all ? Did you do any other trips out at that time that you could be conflating ? A hauler is a very small ship for route to riches (6T cargo?)
Are you sure about the ident of either or both of Raxxla or TDW ? There are hostile installations, you go inside the security zone and they threaten and attack, it is a game mechanic. Could you be misremembering the names? Sorry to ask but I've made a similar error myself ... (my first big exploration trip I remember visiting a system with "unknown" described as an "exploration opportunity" and a dotted symbol in the nav panel which i remembered as a raxxla hexagon but could never find again)
Edit:

Here are my 2c's from the account of CMDR drakkster and your questions:
  • The road to riches has probably changed since
  • I believe CMDR drakkster said the faction was The Dark Wheel and Raxxla was an installation
  • Entering a security and getting a warning to get shot is totally plausible

Yeah, I considered the same, that the road to riches will be different today than it was at the time. And he did say it was close to Capricorn systems but didn't say it was one.

I asked him again about the gas giant but he didn't reply to it. He also said installation at first, but then said planet. Couldn't get a clarification on this, if it was an orbital installation or the name of the planet.

We need the logs he requested from FD support before starting anything. Let's also see if he shows up in this thread - that's also a good test.

@drakkster2025 One thing I'm curious whether you navigated jumps using Navigation panel or using Galaxy map.

Basically, there has always been a suspicion that Raxxla is not visible in the galaxy map, but may be navigable from the navigation panel if you're within the jump range of what shows up there (20LY or so).

Nowadays almost nobody ever looks at the navigation panel, people will plot using galaxy map for 100s if not 1000s of LYs or route using spansh through the neutron highway and that basically means that if Raxxla system was only visible in the navigation panel, nobody routes into it.

All the people that do surveys and similar, they do it using galaxy map - hyperjumps using navigation panel are pretty rare.

So option either this is a system only navigable via the panel, or this is a system that appears under a different name in the galaxy map. It'd be nice to know.

Thanks. Heartwood has sold out several times and been reprinted, which is great. PS Publishing just sent me my slipcase edition. It's absolutely gorgeous.

The list of authors involved is stellar, plus little old me. ;)

Randomius Factoria. I recall this being something I arrived fairly late to as a concept. I think Dave Hughes had done a little work developing the theology in some early drafts of his ideas. The initial concept felt a bit 'Ian Bell' to me, in that when you look at a lot of the earlier background, the Ian Bell stuff was often the less serious stuff. That said, when I researched in a bit more detail I realised I was mistaken in judging it as a comedy Warhammer theme for the Elite Universe or solely as a satire on procedural generation. Interesting to note that there is A LOT of explorations of Fate, Randomness, etc during the 1980s in a variety of SF Fantasy franchises.

The extract below is straight out of the Lave Guidebook, which was a compilation I did for my own story work. It came from the revised version of the Old Worlds draft. Looking at the tracked changes, I think this was a light edit of Dave's initial entry. His draft in the older file contains a note linking it to the Holdstock source in The Dark Wheel.

This section found it's way into the appendices of Lave Revolution in the second edition copy.
off topic
Have to say Holdstock one of my all-time fave authors - RIP.
Being a Time Team freak I once wrote a little mashup between TT and Mythago Wood in the C4 TT forums. They got deleted but luckily the community saved the content and I was able to copy it over: warning - only for fans of both TT and Mythago cycle: https://www.mikelowndes.net/stuff-wot-i-rote/stone-caller-time-team-ryhope-wood/

So I have done a check, and I have an export of a road for riches excel worksheet dated 10/11/2017 14:06, for some bizarre reason I kept it, untouched as far as I'm aware, would it be of use to anyone?
I was curious if I still had any cause I did it a couple of times in the early days, hence why I put this up now.

Something to add to this, the first system is BD+33 4395 so might not be that useful.

I found the 2017 version of the road2riches https://pastebin.com/LhZNMw3u

[edit] does anyone know how to plot this and see where it passes close to capricorn ?

I think we definitely need both documents. @mearmortal could you attach your worksheet? And can anyone help @Nezzie Muso with her question?

With Nezzie Muso, you could do vlookup to an export of EDSM for the co-ordinates, and then use the formula for checking distances, you just need a Capricorn system name and co-ordinates to start with.

Looks like we really need those logs to narrow down the possibilities - or ask @drakkster2025 if he shows up and if he remembers anything useful to help get this done.

Logging out for now (nearly 2AM over here) but can't wait to check in again in a few hours 😉

The funny thing about that is if his story were true, then the system must have been already uploaded to EDDN (Road to Riches, after all), and if there really is a Dark Wheel faction present there, then that would have shown up as well.
Of course, if you assume that Frontier still came up with a way to hide that, the data being crowdsourced already would at least help with narrowing a search down to systems with a gas giant only.

Tried to fit a ship with a SCO drive but couldn't get it under 9ly range, so just went with my Dolphin with a regular 4E FSD. Guess no quick supercruise for me! If anyone got a build with SCO drive and 9ly range feel free to share.

If following the road to richs from 2017 in a direct route, and the ly range of the ship is around 10 the below is where around youl hit at 70ish jumps

  1. 25: 14.15 Hyades Sector MX-S b4-5 | Hyades Sector MX-S b4-5 A 4 (92) ELW
  2. 26: 55.61 HIP 22688 | HIP 22688 A 4 (984) TWW

Nice, thanks for the info!

Not necessarily, it could be any system in between at 10ish lightyears that can be missed

So if that ^ pilot is telling the truth ( and based on their post-history, i believe they indeed are ) , then it would go along with the whole phrase within Codex saying "the location of which is a DEADLY secret" . -- The only question(s) i'd have for that pilot would be: Why no screenshots? And why choose the obscure "Suggestions" section to finally post your tale/intel and why not ever post here in THIS massive 1800 page actual Raxxla topic thread?

Nevertheless, the call came out from OP @Macros Black so yeah all hands on-deck and i'll be firing up my thrusters to help search today cuz hey why not.
Godspeed, everyone. To RAXXLA !! 🚀

I remember people talking about a player who reported having found Raxxla on his Mac a while back. I'm assuming it's the same person, since it's basically the same information as before, so it's not something out of the blue. At the time I don't think I spoke with him directly but the information got to us and people did some searches around it (I don't think we knew the starting system at the time).

If he's telling the truth or not I can't say, but it's certainly not the first time this story has been told.
