If that's the case and I use regular gas giants as well then we get waaaaay more systems to sort through. I agree, however, we have to be extremely critical of what parameters we think the codex is really trying to convey.

Why not keep the two scripts separate? One for regular gas giants and one for brown dwarfs? That way, those who fully believe in Lyta Crane's account can use the first and those who have doubts (like me) can use the second.

Also a 100ly radius search may be too taxing. If we can't narrow it down better than that with our candidate then we're picking our candidates wrong. Maybe a 35-50ly search is better? Don't want to have your setup have a heart attack 💔

Does the number 7 or 8 have any significance at all in Raxxla lore? Looking up Aztlan now.
Well... 😁

Before I go on. All of the following is NOT confirmed by FDev. Only the Dark wheel codex entry.

Basically I think it does. The number 8 is connected to every major event in one way or another within the game. It is also, potentially, the meaning of the word Raxxla itself.

If you use Chaldean numerology with that name, it comes up with 8. A possible hint by robert holdstock or at least a request by DB to use a name that has a connection to the number 8, due to the games 8 bit origins.

The Dark wheel is rumoured to orbit the 8th moon of a gas giant. The Thargoids worship this number, as well it seems. In regards to the number 8, the number is mentioned a LOT within the game. Of course the Thargoids are not confirmed to have any known connections to the Raxxla mystery. But it's pretty obvious to me that FDev are giving us some kind of clue with using that number so much.

Or it is mearly a homage to 8 bit gaming. And that's it. 😔

I hope it isn't anyway. It's fascinating, when you dive into the 8 connections.

That's good enough for me, going to keep my eye out for repeated occurrences of the number eight anywhere in the game. Even in the Odyssey part.

Thanks!😁

I’m still speculating, my studies incorporates years of collating data from this thread, research into literature and my own professional experience, however apart from a bit of creative intuition about poetic similes, it’s all open to interpretation, and there’s nothing concrete in game, I am in theory practicing a form of back casting and situational / temporal mapping; there ought to be something obvious in game.

Logically then I’m using this data in an attempt to focus upon certain areas.

My strongest suspicion is something exists upon the directional axis (either way) along these ‘signals’.

Hypothetically this ‘area’ is I propose an abstract representation of the northern aspect of the zone of Chaos from Paradise Lost and Dante’s Devine Comedy combined.

As such the ‘objective’ is either very close or in a relative close proximity to Fortuna as a potential apex of Dante’s mountain or, it is in upon this axis through the ‘signals’ and upon an Easterly aspect through the Fates, in line with Milton’s concept of it being on the Eastern wall of heaven.

So I think FD with the ‘promotion’ of the signals, are being very literal and stating ‘something’ exists in this area.

In my opinion they’re utilising environmental storytelling to establish locational awareness!?

Another aspect is ‘something’ exists in the ‘Underworld’ which is where I feel the Codex is pointing us initially. A good starting point being Tannhauser Gate which I speculate is at the base of Dante’s mountain by my assessment.

I’m currently enjoying Starfield, so on a little break from ED. But if I was to ‘grind’ anywhere it would be around Tannhauser Gate, and all the factions up the ‘holy mountain’.

I could be wrong. It’s an educated assumption, given we have nothing really in game, at least that’s 2 potential areas, I have others but these are the strongest in my opinion.
May I ask what literature you have been reading?

One of my favourite things in the Raxxla quest has been reading (and enjoying) books and texts that I would never of thought of.

Thanks in advance

I had completely forgotten about those. They are pretty cool to look, but don't do much besides giving you a key to unlock blueprints. I don't think there's anything else you can with them and although they look cool they don't more than the surface structures and have been known for years.
honestly, when i first dropped into the 'guardian beacon' instance and saw the massive 'structure' , well...i thought i had discovered the PORTAL to Raxxla lol newb nerves

Weren't there 8 Thargoid titans as well? ( recently, before the war supposedly "ended" )

The difficulty for me with all those mythological references is that FDEV used basically every known mythological entity from every culture SOMEWHERE in the bubble, so any theory we may have can be fitted reasonably to nearby or exact mythological references. That's why it's hard to really use them in a convincing way. It's not like there is just one "darkness" related system in the galaxy. There are literally hundreds of them.

....as if our search wasn't hard enough 😔

GUI with all stars/planet types, input for system/radius, and body count threshold. Gonna go disc golfing now. Happy hunting o7.

Anything on Milton and Parade Lost; Dante’s Devine Comedy; all of M Brookes Drabbles and blogs; a lot of Robert Holdstock. But mostly studies on interpretation of the cosmology of Milton. :)

I found it through a guide I think. If I had stumbled it myself without knowing what it was I would soil my pants with excitement. :p

It still felt magical but also a bit underused, kinda like the Thargoid map room.

I simply find it really weird that M Brooke’s plonked a station referencing his favourite movie in that specific location. Right in the middle of the Underworld, surrounded by systems named after the cities of gold and other lost realms, which just so happen to be name checked in the codex.

Also speculatively Brooke’s talked of mountains rather a bit. In Elite Legacy his character ‘Hammer’ goes into detail about a system called Beaumont (beautiful mountain), potentially around or below this same area, but which significantly is not in game, whilst others name checked are.

Coincidence very likely; intended clue, possibly?

Remember there was a break in this journey; we know FD changed it circa 2017 because the missions were broken.

Some may disregard them but I feel they were integrally linked. But I strongly suspect FD killed the original story. Therefore the original path may have made more sense, because content was planned but likely never implemented. What we got , I speculate is the scraps.

So yes it all looks weird, because we’re not allowed to follow the original path, what we got was a codex, which I suspect is a system of similes, referring to Brookes work.

I may be wrong.
I haven't gotten into all the details on mountains, but there are always possible connections to omphalos and Acropolis.

I think the Carina nebula may be interesting, i connection to mountains. It contains both the Mystic mountain (name inspired by Lovecraft) region and the Cosmic cliffs region.

In the image the Mystic mountain is marked as Mystic island, for some reason?

Carina nebula also has the Keyhole nebula, a some WR stars and a couple of Guardian sites. If there is a connection between Raxxla and Guardians, this might be a good spot to find something.

When I first got into this quest, the first thing I felt would be cool would be either a nebula; dark nebula or black holes regarding Raxxla. But I’ve come to the assumption it’s very likely bubble based.

There’s a vid of the Devs during a particular live stream (still can’t find it) where one quips ‘they can’t even find Raxxla’, personally I suspect it’s hidden locally and is so dull and bland Cmdr probably ignore it every day, my strongest suspicion is the rings of some planet.

Ignoring mining hotspots, these were relatively unexplored. And what were we given along with the Codex? Scanners!

Eg: On the brow of the mother of galaxies (Milton’s Chaos); is s system with one large ringed body. Here be dragons?

Personally, I can't believe Raxxla is inside or in close proximity to the Bubble. Assuming it is a physical place, people would have found it over the thousand years since the rumors began.

"Hey, I found Raxxla! Yeah, it was in orbit around a moon. The moon had three minor wreckages, one distress beacon, and other stuff."

That wouldn't make sense from a narrative standpoint. So I think it's either outside the Bubble (500+ LY away), or it’s no longer in the Bubble at all. Or—maybe the Pilots' Federation is actually the Dark Wheel. But that would mean Raxxla is inside a permit-locked system…

Anyway, there's something else that bothers me. Let's say you're an explorer in 2250, working with the technology of the time. It's slow and inefficient. Despite that, you manage to find Raxxla in just a few years. How did you do it? What did you have that humanity, with a thousand more years of progress, couldn't replicate?

Tin foil hat time. What if you had directions? After all, the Martian Relic was discovered just a few years before the myth of Raxxla was born. It’s only as big as a child’s hand. Maybe it’s some kind of compass—some kind of guide to Raxxla. I don’t know. But maybe we should start applying narrative pressure on the Federation to reveal the secret of the Martian Relic. If the truth has been hidden for a thousand years, the reason must be serious.

Donning a second tin foil hat, I’ll continue with my assumptions. Elite Dangerous has drawn some inspiration from the RPG Traveller, as far as I know. In that game, humanity was seeded in Sol by an ancient species called the Ancients. And I think Mars would be a perfect place for them to leave a message for future humanity. After all, humans could only reach it once they were advanced enough to take to the stars. Maybe they left a message—and a way to find them in another galaxy.

Okay, I’ve rambled enough. Still, I think we should push the Federation to finally tell the truth about the Relic.

It would make sense if the Guardians (who were humanoid) had similarly seeded Sol and somehow passed on the knowledge of the location of Raxxla to humanity.

This would bring the disturbing possibility however that what the Thargoids are desperately looking for (and thereby sending Cocijo to Sol) is one and the same thing.

If FD does link all three together (Guardians, Thargoids, Raxxla) then they'll be dropping clues soon. We will see..

The story's premise was to accept both Milton's and Lovecraft's worlds at face value and then explore that reality.

And so we have the story of creation, God creates the physical universe we know and mankind falls from grace and despite that evolves to become masters of the stars.

Unbeknownst to almost every living being (except God and a few with special insight) God created the universe from the wreckage of a much older universe.

That universe was the domain of the pantheon Lovecraft described in his mythos and the gods of humanity destroyed them in a war that saw nearly every diety also annihilated.

The multiverse is a battleground of competing entities, some powerful enough to create universes of their own, but others use different methods.

Our universe was then formed from the bones of the original creators, their followers and the upstart gods lost in the battle. It is their remains that formed the matter and energy we see around us. More than that it also forms the fabric of the universe, the essence of spacetime and the vast voids inside the atomic building blocks.

The intensity of the Big Bang and the continual transformation of matter and energy erased any memory of the dead gods and elder beings - except those fragments in the void. At the height of humanity's worldly power, it develops technology capable of tearing the fabric of space and stirring the reformation of those once sundered. The memories of beings long lost filter into reality and so starts a war of cosmic scale for the possession of creation.

I remember reading "Voyage to Arcturus" by the late David Lindsay which used the tenets of Gnosticism to create a scifi-fantasy world where the material world was made by a malevolent copycat creator who made a twisted copy of the "true and real world" by the original creator.

Unfortunately, the latter wasn't very popular because his world was based on pain & awakening. The false creator offered (false) beauty and pleasure. Guess who dominated?

If the Thargoids are the original ones then Witchspace is the true universe and our own universe is built on the foundations or ruins of the "otherworld".

The Guardians were no saints that's for sure, because any race that can build killer AI has a strong streak of malevolence in it's core.

This viewpoint is a very hard sell though, the Thargoids have been the "bad guys" for such a long time.

I am utterly convinced it is in the bubble, or close by.
Ever since I read the foundation series a few years ago it just made me think it’s right under our noses.

“Those with eyes to see”
“We know where Raxxla is and why no one has found it”
“A little bit obvious”
