The single most annoying thing currently in ED is.....

Single most?? Hmm hard to choose at this moment because of so many to choose from...but

One that comes to mind is just the unknown of almost everything...eg will this Expert Vulture destroy me in x amount of seconds?? Or will this Elite FAS twiddle its thumbs and not shoot back. etc.

I cant really count on ANYTHING or notice any amount of CONSISTENCY across the game right now.

Low/High CZ? Are they? High/Haz RES? Are they? Threat level 2? Are they? I can't count on past experience or knowledge because the rules are all across the board without any form of consistency. That is either trying to judge the difficulty of a fight, or whether a mission will be able to complete etc etc.

That said, I still love E : D and will probably be flying til the end.

TL:DR My single annoyance is the inconstancy of the game post 2.1+

Critical mission update.....you have 0H 0M to deliver your stuff...14 times yesterday, 14 times, come on FD get it sorted. This has now reached dander level 9, and has become really irritating.

Please vent your frustration by posting your current number one.

It seems they have a problem with the development of missions in the game. Hard to believe that after 18 months still have problems with it

Slow everything. Slow loading station boards, mission page, right and left control panels, maps, entering glide. Opening literally anything in the game feels like I have time to grab a sammich....why is everything so hellishly slow to load??

Try "Disable GUI effects ON" in settings. It may buy you a second or two on L/R MFD's

For me, the single most annoying thing currently in ED is….

… the lack of exploration content.

The gameplay mechanics of exploration hasn’t been changed or added to since release. Adding first discovered tags was awesome but it didn’t improve exploration gameplay at all. Planetary landings is an awesome feature but there is currently zero content on planet surfaces for deep space explorers. Exploration missions still don’t exist. Comets still aren’t in the game.

Elite’s explorers are some of the most dedicated and passionate players of the game, we’ve gotten good at creating our own content because we’ve had to in order to stay interested in the game. And the fact that the devs seem to be just fine letting exploration stagnate without any gameplay improvements at all is my number one annoying thing about this game. [sad]

This game is about pvpers & non pvpers, no room for pesky explorers :)

The huge lack of gameplay/features over the planet surfaces. This game could be really big, even if they just make a single planet for each faction full of life/buildings.

Having so much fun in ED is annoying the crap out of me. :) I made 2 million credits last night, shot at enemies, they shot back. They shot back a lot. (Even in this crummy Cobra) I got taken down to 23% hull at one point.

"Destroy the generator .....and everything else." As you hover above the installation ships start scrambling but you ignite some large tanks that explode, taking out some of their parked ships. You manage to destroy a couple enemy landing pads but a few enemy ships launch, so now you have to fly through a canyon, knowing that a few kilometers away is your mobile ground to air missile installation run by your NPC buddies. You deployed it from the SRV bay. So you zoom by and ground missiles take out a few of the baddies that were chasing you , leaving you to kill the remaining vulture.

As for the mission stuff in game being slow, it's something we're checking into to get fixed.

As for general slowness, relax a bit - the game isn't meant to be a rush. :)

Sorry I'm not relax, not on this subject.
FD have turned the game in this rush when they knew they couldn't do it because the player's response time is always late.
Presses the button and wait, one, two ... happens, how to maneuver a ship in combat like that? Deploy shaft wait ... 1, 2 and shaft, and so to all the commands and maneuvers.
The players compensate it intuitively, anticipating their movements, but that does not take FD responsibility to give us a correct response time.
Is the game of learning to deal with the delay.

It does seem that way somedays. What worries me greatly is that they will add Thargoids flying around trying to shoot us up throughout deep space and call it “exploration content”. That would not be exploration content, but just more combat crowd content further out in space!!!

As a CMDR who's almost only interested in the combat aspect, i must say that you are right, there is far, far too much combat focus in Elite and i would gladly accept any other gameplay that doesn't involve combat.

Life's cruel. :p

In all seriousness though, I'd honestly recommend Frontier have a look at a way of capping a persons rank. For example, in Warframe, you don't get the super-duper-high end gear unless you can get through the Mastery ranks. Each step towards the next Mastery rank requires a test.

Now, I'm not saying to lock equipment and such; but I am suggesting the following:
First, each rank (for Trade/Combat*) from Competent (arguments could be made for Novice) onward is locked behind a mission (Fed ranking for ex). Passing the test means you rank up, and can progress further. If you cannot past the test, this clearly shows that you have -for the moment- reached your skill cap and this is where the second point comes in.

Second, the NPC difficulty is based on your rank, with a leeway between ranks. Meaning, as a Novice, you could encounter NPC's from Harmless to Expert; each with the difficulties their ranks provide, as well as adjusted bounties (if any). When in a wing with higher ranked CMDR's, the NPC difficulty will be a mixture of NPC's, ranging from one rank below the LOWEST ranked CMDR to one rank above the HIGHEST ranked CMDR in the wing (or perhaps the instance).

* Not sure how it would work for Exploration

They really should take a hard look at warframe and its progression, matchmaking and looting system. I know a lot of people who still play that game religiously and are still not bored by it. I played a looong time and I still enjoy it. Just onto other games now. Its a winning model - quick fun missions that are repeatable with risk, chance of reward, fun while doing it. Hidden things to do. Lots of maps to explore. A little bit of a story line going on. Crazy as hell and not even really good but the gameplay is so good it DOESN'T MATTER that there is no story.

Watch and learn FD - how to make a fun game without actual content and making it FUN.

The single most annoying thing currently in ED is ...

... the game difficulty auto-scaling up the longer you play – due to difficulty being influenced by your combat rank.

Combat rank is a mere quantitative thing. Unlike player skill it just keeps going up the longer you play. Game difficulty however has a qualitative impact.

It's beyond stupid as for many players, the game auto-scales over their heads. Thanks customer, you've had enough fun, now suffer? That's just horrendously bad game design.

Difficulty should be space-region and mission-based, so that people can *choose* how much they want to challenge themselves.

Player combat rank should impact NOTHING in terms of ship spawning or AI.
