You have to pay a subscription for Open. Try forcing that on people.

To be clear, it is Microsoft that restricts online multi-player play to XBox Live Gold members - Frontier are not the entity making the decision as to who can play in which mode.

Good evening,

I see your point and totally agree. While participating in PP is (at least for me and for the time present) quite a bit of fun, there is no benefit for playing it in open (I do it nevertheless, but that's a matter of principle). I could point at core system elements like instancing or rulesets like interdiction mechanics...

...but I really think the elephant in the room is and sadly will remain the unhindered interaction between OPEN and SOLO/PRIVATE GROUP. If we boil down the present mechanics, PowerPlay in OPEN puts you at a greater risk without rewarding you for it in any way...

Want to put 50 million bucks worth of preparation (5000 points) into a disputed system? Go SOLO, take your T9, do 10 trips with zero risk, done... try it in OPEN, toss a coin if you'll get blown to pieces!

The elephant in the room is not "the unhindered interaction between OPEN and SOLO/PRIVATE GROUP" the elephant in the room is those like you who decided that in order to play PP everyone should take the same risks you CHOSE to take. I am not sure how come it is so hard for some people to understand. Not everyone likes PVP, not everyone plays the same way. The game was made so that both PVPers and PVEers could enjoy the game and both can effect the universe as well.

I swear it is like 2 toddlers getting ice cream cones. One drops theirs then crys, fuzzes and tantrums that the other has an ice cream cone and it isn't fair because they don't have one.

Not exactly - Microsoft restrict online multi-player play to XBox Live Gold members - Frontier are not the entity making the decision as to who can play in which mode.

You have to pay a subscription (Xbox Live Gold) in order to be able to play Open/Group on the XBox. I didn't say it was Frontier's policy, but it is the case. (I posted on another thread with exactly your point earlier today.)

That isn't the point. PP is supposed to pit players of one faction against another. I flew from Cubeo to Hanamamamamanna to take down Hudson's players. Now I can do that, but there's no reward at all for PvP in PowerPlay. Hence it's actually encouraging you to only engage the other faction's NPCs. So PowerPlay does not encourage PLAYER interaction.

I love PP, I love Open and I'm not really a PvPer but thought PP gave justification for it. As it is I felt like a meany taking down those two ships last night because really there was no need for it.

Please link me where is says "PP is supposed to pit players of one faction against another".
In fact, any information where by PP is to directly force any player, to directly interact with another player.

I read all the documents and watch the YouTube videos, didn't see enforced PvP anywhere, so you'll have to provide it for me as I'm at a loss on where to find it.

Indeed - however your statement was ambiguous as it did not refer to the subscription being to Microsoft for XBox Live Gold and could be construed to mean that Frontier were demanding a subscription to play the game in multi-player on XBox One.

This is the Open/Solo/Group thread, the context was forcing people to play in one mode when extra payment was involved. Who's extra payment it was is irrelevant to the thread. :p

Given the number of discussions relating to the network model and the willingness of some players to pay a subscription if it were changed from P2P/Server-Lite to a more traditional Client/Server model, it is, in my opinion, best to be quite clear with respect to who any subscription is paid to and why - for the avoidance of doubt.

While I understood exactly what you were saying, with how some failed to understand the game has modes and did from the start - I think making sure there is no doubt in what you say is needed. ;-)

I don't have a problem with a clarification but it was worded as a correction with "not exactly".
