Modes The Solo vs Open vs Groups Thread - Part the Second [Now With Added Platforms].

Why should there be ANY gap in reward because of skill level? By dint of balance, your skill is EFFECTIVELY the same as mine. You are better, therefore you play against those of equivalent (or even greater)skill, whereas I fight against opponents of equivalent (or greater) skill. Just because your opponents are players and mine are NPC's is of no relevance. Again, it boils down to you not having as many targets to shoot at....which I have no sympathy for, nor am I willing to give any ground for that invalid argument.

BTW I'm one of the players who is happy with mode switching except in CG. I'm not trying to force anyone in to open. I'm more of demiga's side in the sticky.

I think higher skill and harder challenges should be rewarded it's not too hard to understand. Right now when it comes to cg's the game forces players to solo or group to compete effectively and this is what I think is wrong.

i never said that piracy isn't completely broken.
i just say that PvP piracy will never work... the foodchain can't be established.

PVP piracy does work it's just not too profitable. The profession needs npc piracy to be buffed to make it viable and to take the heat off of some of the open traders. It shouldn't be made easier, it should be made harder with more punishing bounties and consequences but at the same time the rewards for it should increase in some way (npcs with better cargo).

[/B][/I]

I think this is really where we differ. I've never once had a video game get my blood pumping. Maybe it is because I've been in real combat, I don't know, but I get no physical excitement gaming. A lot of time pleasurably spent, but nothing I'd call excitement.

Instead, I get a sense of dread. Not fear, but dread. I can even place the feeling. It's 100% identical to the feeling I get when I walk into the yard and see that the garden gate is open. I'm not afraid, I'm not excited, but I know the dogs have created unnecessary work for me. My mood just sours as I walk back in to the house to change into jeans and I'm dreading the next couple of hours I'm going to spend fixing things.

That's exactly how I feel playing open. I'm either the dog about to create unnecessary work for another player, or I see time on my knees scooping dirt. Neither are appealing.

That's perfectly fine m8, it's the same reason why some people play open. It's the same feeling I get when I drop in to a system and see a pvp bounty hunter hanging around the star but that's why I play, I like that feeling. It's the same reason why people watch horror movies, some people like to be scared.

As I said in one of the other quotes I'm happy with mode switching except in cgs.

Jockey is going to disagree with this(I got into an argument with him in a different thread), but I've never seen npcs interdict each other. They only target players as well.

don't play dumb...
you know exactly what i mean.
and besides that, i personally couldn't care less.
i'm not a trader... i do everything. so, even if i was "forced" into open, i could make my way without trading and still be "ahead" (whatever that means).

what you think would make a trader take the "immensive" risks of open play to play (and enjoy) the victim role?
200% more profit? 300%?
I'd guess it would be more like 500%....

Where on earth do you get forcing traders into open from anything I was saying?

The GAME does nothing. It's the PEOPLE playing the game that cause reactions or "forces" other players to do things.

The game does even on a basic level through the way it's made. The p2p structure makes it really laggy when other real players are in the same instance for a start.

The way the game mechanics for cgs are set up for combat goals do as well. If you have a CG and there's one res for it every player has to play in the same res and due to the way the friendly fire mechanics work for a start, a stray shot can mean instant death and it's more likely with other players around.

You can keep saying otherwise but you're plain wrong on this aspect, why else would every one be complaining about it other wise? It's not just here on this thread on this forum but the majority of the 40000 players on the reddit feel the same way too.

It's not some big anti pve/solo conspiracy.

well, it doesn't surprise me that you get different results on reddit.
the audience is quite different.
i for my part don't like reddit at all (not just for ED).

neither reddit or this forums represent the "playerbase" as a whole.

You can tell a lot from both communities about what people think though. Forum is definitely more pve and the reddit is more pvp but you'll get just as many people down voting a post on reddit if they called for solo to be removed as you would here.

i didn't say reddit is rubbish...

it's just like you meet someone on the street, listen to him for a while and you chose not to like him.
and since i tend to dislike 80% of the world population...

still i try to be polite... with some results... sometimes.

You chose Open because there are other players there. Other players introduce more risk and more competition. If you don't like the added risk and competition then perhaps you should play Solo or Mobius.

You know that's an intentionally inflammatory statement. You should know better.

I thought it was kinda funny, LOL. Distance where the hell is your sense of humor? Look I get it yur a pirate, and ya pirate in open, both acceptable to me, and appropriate. But ya have to admit being a pirate really does bring you a bit of dislike to your self. For obvious reasons. Being a pirate has it's down side, you should know this.

That does not make the statement any less true. It's your choice to play in open. You know open has more competition and risk. You even ADVOCATE said risk and competition, yet you complain that it's harder to accomplish goals in that environment. The solution is simple, yet you choose to ignore it.

No sympathy here.

Particularly on the forum. Even more so on this thread. In fact I believe Jockey posted up a handy table on the top 20 or 30 posters or so. Have a check how many are solo/group posters :p

Yea Distance, all three modes are available to everyone, anytime. You deciding to lock yourself down to just open, is literately and ultimately your decision. a little accountability here.:D

I have a sense of humor but usually SteveLaw drops in an unrelated dig that's totally out of context and that's why he should know better :p

I'm more than happy with the reputation of a pirate and I pay for it heavily. In the month I've been pirating I've probably made a million but died from bounty hunters many times each to the tune of 1.8mil.

I suck it up and take the consequences of my actions and I believe traders should as well and that means trying to run in a shieldless tradeship filled with cargo when you've been asked to stop by a bigger ship.

I only ask that if you don't want to face those consequences in open and would rather combat log or complain about it after the fact then you stay in solo or group and everyone's happy :)

You missed the part when I mentioned being rewarded by the game for higher skill and risk rather than the game rewarding the opposite.

Also from my view point I don't participate in combat goals or trade goals any more and on trade goals I am the risk. I get no reward from the current cg's but I can recognize their failings and the unfairness of them towards open players who do take part.

I typically don't support combat logging. But like anything I use a little discretion. If you have a 2 day old player that does it, because he doesn't know what else to do. Cut em a little slack, there still getting to know the game, maybe haven't figured out where they need to be. I would never react the way the folks did on the REDDIT forum.

But I do think that anyone that doesn't want to deal with pirates or doesn't enjoy that sort of thing should keep out of there. Like you said some like to be frightened, some don't.
