You aren't being penalized, you just aren't given a bonus like the players who are playing in a more populated, and thus more risky, area.

Oh, too much lol. First, you want solo/group mode forced into pvp. THEN, you want bonuses for playing in "more populated/more risky area" ? So, in other words, you want ALL THE THINGS?

A fig 'pon thee!

Neither of these are the one I was thinking of but it demonstrates how NPC difficulty is a balancing act and deliberately dialled down from it's potential.
I can only go so far. I mean, I could make AI ships target Power Plants as players do, but they don't right now. And their SCB usage is limited, even on Elite ships. Perhaps that should change...
It feels good that people are generally enjoying the AI update. :) There's much more on the way... Mama's teaching her little ones new tricks... ;)
I'll also be trying to appease everyone by making the lower ranks fun for beginners while ramping up the higher ranks for the more experienced player. Tricky perhaps, but at the end of the day the aim is to make the game fun for everyone. :) Oh, BTW I'm loving my work! :D Perhaps it shows...

She did mention in passing that part of her task was to ensure that the ranking of NPCs was reflected in their combat style and abilities. Can't find the post, sorry. Everything I saw before heading back into the Black suggests that this is already happening, though no doubt there will be plenty of behind the scenes tweaks to come.

All seems fine in the galaxy to me.

something shifted recently.. had mostly harmless Anacondas that after a tough fight I usually could win though I would be hurting badly.. the last 2 "Mostly Harmless" was anything but.. and all I could do was run

Given the fact that there are well in excess of 500,000 copies sold, to hope that Frontier would change the game to suit one player (or 100, or even 1,000) would seem a little ambitious....

500,000 copies is nothing compared to some games. If Frontier made the right decisions, that number could quadruple. Also, if you cut out Open play and only had Solo play, I'm willing to bet more than half of the playerbase would drop. If Frontier had to choose one mode, it would undoubtedly be Open.

<grins> If it was a pub round here, the ninth would probably just nut you!

Probably in my local too, and then the usual hell would break loose!

But on the plus side I've been using the place for the last 25 years (or is it 30? Long time whatever) so at least I know who to hide behind ;)

It's almost a shame we'll never know.

Never say never.

I am eagerly awaiting for Mr Braben himself to get involved in my request to name a station after David Hasselhoff.

it is? o.0 Doesn't it just mean somebody that wants an easy game with no consequences?

The ease or difficulty of Open/Solo is itself debatable anyway now the AI has been improved to the level it has (not every human you meet is hostile after all). But even if that is the case that isn't the reason Solo play is popular. I'm going to direct you to this article on The Escapist which really is essential reading for anyone who wants to discuss this issue.

Hmm, so you are saying at least half the players are in Open. How come Open advocates keep coming here and complaining there is no one there to play with and insisting everybody needs to move to Open?

I would rather a smaller game that everyone can enjoy their way vs a 1 million copies game that is recycled hash. No offense but you keep referencing WoW.. if we wanted to play something like wow, we'd be playing wow right now. We don't, we are playing ED and while we love making the game better, that does not mean utterly altering the game towards one style of play.

And have you not been reading the thread.. open would lose.

So, serious question... to all the guys here that like and use the ability to duck into solo when they want a "no risk" evening of play... what is it exactly that you are doing in-game at that time? Are you exploring? Trading? RESing? And also... where are you at IN the game? In other words, are you rocking a stacked Anaconda? Or are you newer to the game?

Second question, If you ARE newer (not new.. but not end-game ships either). What do you plan on doing in the game after you have accrued millions with all the ships? Maybe after you have already explored, and have already have massed a fortune trading.... What will you be doing in the game?

My math sense is tingling :D

And I didn't have to get into artificially constrained population sets, and variable Y axis graphs with false origin.;)
Elite doesn't have Elves, guilds, auction houses, magic and 40 character raids, it's not an MMO.

Well found! It was the second one I was thinking of. I'm probably one whisky over the search terms limit.

"Some people want EZ carebear mode" isn't against the rules. Where in that sentence did I insult you? cmon.

It is, in fact, against the forum rules, which are on this thread's first page. Just in case you can't find it...

"
Important rules for this thread

The forum rules apply as usual in this thread, but we'd like to highlight some specific points:

  • Stay polite and topic. Baiting, insulting or swearing will result in a direct infraction. No warnings, no nice private messages. Baiting includes dead horse references, use of the words "easy mode" or "carebear", accusations of griefing, and picture spam.
  • Please do not indulge in pejorative comments about players from *any* of the platforms on which the game has been, or will be (or even might be), released"

Now you are informed. There's no more excuse.
