Rather than a vs. discussion, I'd rather want to understand why FD decided on a 3-mode system that affects the same universe and why a player chooses the mode they do. This is actually what the thread comprises, no?
It's rather simple, actually:
Solo for those that don't want to be bothered by others and play the game solely for their enjoyment.
Group for those that wish to play with their friends, be it friendly pvp or "uncontested" system flipping.
Open for those that like the idea and/or the possibility of pvp, give that extra danger in "dangerous"
All 3 give you the semi-hero complex in which you can marginally affect the universe. (Which should actually make you realize that you are not the hero of the story.)
FD chose to cater to each of these types of players and I'm glad they did.
