Skimmers?

Please explain the skimmers, thx...
I'm sure someone ninja'd me, but SKIMMER...![]()
Good point - do we know how Skimmers stay off the ground?
Thrusters...though no idea how those doughnuts work exactly.

It amazes me that, in a game that is criticized by many for lack of content, players are constantly asking to shortcut the content.
Not only is driving around among boulders and craters eminently believable and useful - it is also fun, and one of the few activities that we actually have to do to progress in certain areas.
Being able to skim over the surface of planets at high speed with no effort would be dull and pointless in the context of the game, unless done in the ships that are provided for the purpose.
Has OP tried using the SRV thrusters ?![]()
in all honesty a SRV that gets damaged by a simple rock would really means in 3303 it's a liability especially for explorers a skimmer would be better.
No sane actual space explorer drives around at 100mph on alien planets.
I wonder why don't we have an alternative to this "vintage" vehicle.
We have drones of the same size which can fly for hours, and we are stuck on the ground struggling with terrain, holes, traction, able only to "fly" the SRV for a few seconds. Why don't we have a levitating hovercraft, a speeder, whatever else?! Scanner seems not to be the problem, because we still receive signals when we fly the SRV. Anywhere in the Sci-Fi world we have such vehicles/motorbikes. Look at Star Citizen itself, or Star Wars.
Please, give us a faster and more comfortable prospecting vehicle, let's try to make something fun instead of painful out of this game, because every action in the game is painful. ED will be remembered as the most painful, repetitive, never-ending grind game ever.

LOL reminds me of the time when i was on a moon/planet which had this lovely flat plain with next to no bolders. Full throttle for a few km top speed running and quite out of nowhere a 1.5 km drop into a canyon. Nearly made it across but like Wiley Coyote, I just fell, boom!!You obviously haven't been exploring and gotten bored before. Driving at breakneck speeds on an alien surface is what cures boredom.
I want just a Taipan with a basket and a wave scanner.

What about in the stations? isn't that why they spin? There is no artificial gravity in this game's world. Never has been. Not in any Elite game. Not in any Elite novel. You're complaining that "LOL if Gandolf can shoot a fireball, why not summon a spaceship? They are both impossible!".
It isnt how fiction works.
AFAIK no. Does that question affect the viability of a hovercraft?
Well they have some weird thrusters I say.

Stick 4 SRV thrusters either side of a bike, tune down the output to accommodate for the much lower mass and voila. Less health as the pilot is exposed, forwards firing weapons only as it's a bike and more fuel usage as it has to hover but faster speeds and no fall damage.
Oh and no cargo obv.
LMAO I wish I was there!LOL reminds me of the time when i was on a moon/planet which had this lovely flat plain with next to no bolders. So how do skimmers work?
