The Star Citizen Thread V10

I still keep seeing vids of folks falling through the Cutlass floors, keep reading it in the chat too while I'm playing so it's obviously an issue. I'm just wondering why it hasn't happened with me..or anyone I play with... since the 3.3 patch and flying a Freelancer since they had dodgy physics like forever. Is it Olisar perhaps...busy servers, crap netcode...I've honestly no idea but amongst all of the current ships, I've always found the Cutlass to be one of the more stable ships in the physics.

After reading in the chat last night of somone having the same issues with his loaner Cutlass, I flew the Cat over to Olisar to have a look. I found the guy, watched him fall through the floor exactly as your vid shows...but when I tried it, I walked in with no issues...

I watched the guy try right in front of me several times...he even tried jumping over the section he fell through only to fall straight through the section he landed on...about a foot from where I was jumping up and down on the solid floor.

So we tried going over to my Caterpillar...where he fell through the lift right next to me. Unfortunately, when I dropped the lift to try again, he was still underneath it and got squished :(

Once he had respawned (I had added him to our party) I recalled my Cutlass...which he fell through the floor until the 4th attempt. There was 4 of us running up and down the ramp, sitting down inside, jumping up and down and it affected none of us.

Absolutely stumped...his net connection seemed ok by the numbers he gave, his PC specs weren't that bad, a bit light on the graphics card side perhaps...but none of us run uber-machines in my little group anyway. We all have a mix of i7's with 16Mb or more of ram and GTX cards ranging from 1060's to 1080 ti's...nowt that special these days and I was convinced it wasn't anything wrong on his end, definitely an SC problem but no idea why it's a common issue for some and not others...especially on the same server. I thought it was maybe as I have a custom user.cfg file with some extra settings...but a few of my group of mates don't run that either, so not that.

At the end, I suggested we try another server...so we all logged out to menu and loaded back in, since I was party host, I dragged the rest into the new server with me which was less populated. Anyway...that fixed the issue, he was happily jumping up and down in the back and running up ramps to his hearts content.

I've no idea why certain servers have these issues...it's a bit like the trade terminals not working on one server, folks falling through lifts at Levski...change server and it's fine.

SC was a clean install, I removed all traces when I got my refund. I only have a 980Ti, with i7-5930k and currently only 16GB RAM.

It only seemed to be that one session that caused the problem, logging out and back in meant I could get in ok. I also noticed that if I dropped items in my "bunk room" they seem to disappear through the floor, whereas if i place them on the floor they stay put.

It would seem that the "bunk room" has persistance, as the cup I placed on the floor is always in the same place when I log in.

They are. When you spawn, if you note the room you come out of, you can come back to it later and get back in. So you can go collect whatever assorted junk that you want and keep it in your room. Well, rooms, since you'd have on at any of the spawn points.

If you log out and back in, the room you are assigned will/can change, but all your junk will still be there.

I still get the odd vanishing floor at Levski when I first load in...I always log out to menu and back in again and don't usually have issues the rest of the evening...or until the server fills up and it all goes a bit pants.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Tonight I tried some trading in the Cutlass Black. I loaded up with agricultural supplies on Levski with the idea that I'd sell them.....somewhere. I dunno.

Love the fact that you can see your cargo in the hold, walk around the crates, etc. Immersive.

Have I mentioned I love the starports? I love the star ports! So much character! I'm sick of identikit starports in certain other games.

However, every time I tried to walk past my crates in the Cutlass and get to the cockpit my legs took so much damage that I died. Seriously. I died like three times trying to just board my ship on Levski. Is my ship's gravity broken? Toxic cargo crates?

I eventually managed to get to the cockpit and take off, but I was critically hurt. Flew to Olisar and tried to leave my ship only to die again. This time I respawned in Olisar at least. Tried to sell my cargo from the trading terminal but was dismayed that I could not select my Cutlass from the ship drop down. So I quit.

That little adventure pretty much sums up all my experiences in SC.

I still reckon it's a server issue since it's similar to the falling through the floor thing. Anyway...a handy trading tool for SC if you're buying and selling stuff (don't be expecting E-D profit margins though) Or easier, ping me up if you aren't discouraged enough to never go back in and I'll fly shotgun with you for a bit. Mole is my RSi handle (strangely enough).

Star Citizen Verse-mate trading tool

Apart from scavenging on foot and EVA'ing around the wrecked ships earlier this evening...I took this brute out of my hangar to test it with the new flight model since I hadn't so far. It terrifies the bejeezuz out of me in the first place, so not had it out the hangar much. Mainly because there's no gameplay for it... until hopefully Q4... ...not holding my breath here, we all know it'll get put back...

It handled a lot better under the new flight model surprisingly, almost sprightly and easy to fly (but felt very big) compared to how it used to be in the old flight model...but still not many places to park the damned thing. It had been so long since I'd taken it out, it took me 10 minutes to find the lift to get in it...then another 5 minutes to find the cockpit

Ah well, it'll give me a decent CCU melt for something else when the gameplay predictably doesn't arrive yet again and my dreams of being a space scrap merchant are dashed on the rocks...

From Strike Commander Manual by Chris Roberts:

In hindsight, knowing what a truly Herculean task Strike Commander turned into, the heartache and disappointment it created when its release date was constantly pushed back, and the amount of time from our personal lives that it consumed, we probably should have designed it differently. We shouldn't have tried to do quite as much or shot quite as high. In our arrogance we had set out to create something that was not only better than everything else, it was several orders of magnitude better. And it was several orders of magnitude more expensive as well -in fact the most expensive game ORIGIN has ever developed. Like Francis Ford Coppola and his film crew on Apocalypse Now, we knew we were in way over our heads, but we also knew there was no turning back.

Is Star Citizen salvagable? I think it is but it would require some drastic changes. For one the obvious thing is to use a proper engine because it seems that CIG had to fight against cryengine from the very start trying to make it do what they want. The second important if not equally important thing is to change the management because if stories about CR are true then the cycle will just repeat itself no matter how much you change everything else. In its 8th year of development Star Citizen shows a remarkable lack of due course and next to no insight how efforts within the company are directed. The roadmap simply throws a lot of fluff at you creating the illusion of order but because so much changes between quarters and the completion % seem to increase randomly and dont reflect the actual state of said content in the PU could as well be random scrabble for all its reliability. So a lot of people seem to think the existance of the roadmaps translate into transparency of the development process. This couldnt be further from the truth IMO.

I can see the first thing happening (as I posted before...end of 2020 reset of the whole project starting at zero with a new engine) but CR will never let go of this scam, especially if he can make the first thing happen (which would only demonstrate how tight his grip is on enough cash cows carrying him through) so I doubt very much Star Citizen will ever become a reality.

Excellent points. However, if they were, say, to take ED's engine, how long would it take them? 4-5 years, even if the management was replaced? And what about the cost? I guess many of the assets could not simply be ported over.

It would be a decent solution, allowing us to play another space sci-fi game, but I dare say it will not happen.

Either they manage with what they've got, or they go under. Sooner or later, they will run out of people to milk. Sadly. I would have liked to see Squadron 42...
