Exactly this project status page baffles me quite a bit. It says 'hangar module is ready' when my information is, that CIG is going to make quite a significant overhaul of the hangars in the near future...

EDIT: If the hangar module is indeed ready the way it is now, I have to wonder, if this is indeed the high quality standard CIG is promising...

That overhaul was already made, all hangars can receive all ships now, not size capped like before, you can have different styles, luxurious or. Garage like etc.... their all modular and can be increased if you need. All the trophies, relics , gear, gadgets that you aquire will be there for you to admire and show your friends.

They will integrate group-based models through the experiential based learning process to uniquely give us just in time solutions. This documented action plan drives a low-risk high-yield, executive-level, agile and idiosyncratic Strategic Pledge Management System, while the sales (or pledges) institutionalizes multi-tasked challenges by nurturing backers needs (M50 for racing...). The trends add value. Value-driven commitments proactively influence the enablers. The backers strengthen profit-maximizing, high-level and end-to-end empowerments.

The pledging-resources structure an outstanding, goal-oriented, opportunity. As a result, a high-level backers / investors pledge level credibly enforces active, genuine and future differentiators. CIG's gut-feeling is that relevant diversities (exploring, racing, dogfighting) aggregate a prioritizing support structure. Metric and timeline cultivate a bullet-proof gamers value. CIG embraces perspectives going forward. As a result, the problem-solving, active, development line prioritizes time-honored dialogues. They need to enable a requirement. Framework and benefit generate a strategy formulation, while niches impact an outstanding timeline. The powerful champion streamlines a competent project.

-> A productive project credibly targets the key people.

Bravo! :D

You have your current AC modes and add a new one for PU.

What? AC is a simulation mode within your helmet in the PU. Not the other way around lol.

It shows the availability not the readiness or its feature completeness. For example Dogfighting Drone Sim released Ready but Spectrum Match was Testing and now that is ready too because it reached full availability.

If I look at the love going into the cockpits, the ships, damage models etc all that would drop neatly into the PU. I think this is why the networking is also so key because the number of ships in mp ac will be the number in pu. Factor in the 64 bit work and what you actually see is the ship to ship core for the PU.

I have no idea whether anything that's been designed will fit into the PU, because it doesn't seem that the PU has been designed yet o_O.

Wouldn't it make more sense to build a flight model and persistent universe and then worry about the minutae of the ships etc? (i.e. design/build the race track, then design the cars for it?)

Ah. Good to know. Thanks a lot!

It would if this was funded by a publisher and had 100 millions upfront. You would not know nothing from the game by now, would take another year or so until you could play something....

Cgi is gearing up for war, it hasnt arrived yet, but when it comes , they will be ready with the heavy guns armed and ready.

Im glad for this, tired of seing games launching half finished and missing major features because the investors want to make a buck.

Tell me more about missing major features and people who want to make a buck.
I am intrigued.

The way normal game developing works is publishers get funding from investors eager for profit to make a game they hope people buy, but the investors want max profit, so they are ok to compromise quality for quantity if it brings them more buck.

In SC the investors are the gamers so we have no hurry to make a buck, actualy its the oposite, were eager to spend it to make it the better it can be, with the max ressources into quality and not quantity.

Preety simple to understand for anyone whos willing ;)

That's kind of one of my irks with the SC PU.
The development of it seems so upside down.

The PU design already has it's hands bound by the pledge store, which effectively is the first iteration of the PU, and it also has to stick together all aspects of the other modules which are all being built separately.
While each module could end up being decent in it's own right, it's still a far stretch from making them all work together seamlessly.

What does seem to be upside down about it? And why wouldn't they work seamlessly?

If the only solution was to (apparently) compromise the design, then personally I would have rethought the project.

Those games are usually launched late and over budget - not because of 'greedy investors', but because someone has to pay the staff. People may work on games because they 'love gaming', but they also love feeding their own families.

Why it looks upside down?

Well first of all, the PU will have existed as a real money store for about 3/4 years or so prior to the actual game release of the PU. Having to build a game around a store is kind of the odd way to go as games with stores make the game first and then fit in the store.

They also create a lot of their ships prior to even having the design of the PU done. How many redesigns will they still have to do to make sure the ships fit the PU? The ships take a ton of work hours since they aim for high fidelity and details.
So odds are that they are sick of doing redesigns already and will just mold the PU around the ships rather than work on the big picture first and then fill in the details.

They make things before they even know exactly what they will need. This forces them to use what they have rather than make what they need.
This is what bothers me about their development since it's a near insurmountable task to fit together so many different pieces that each received their individual polish already in the form of modules.
If i look at how incoherent the consistency of their ship designs already is (both functional and artistically), then i do question whether they are capable of sticking together a game like this seamlessly.

Yep, that is what I was saying a few pages back. It has already happened with the redesign of the 300i, Constellation, and upcoming Avenger rework. And the PU is still only in the early paper stage.

I will be very, very surprised if the game is seamless in the end.

My bet is that the Hangar will be the 'Hub' and we will have to access all the other modules from here. Just as we currently have to do with Arena Commander (and obviously it will be the same with the Racing).

Many many pages ago I wrote something about how funding effected Star Citizen. The ship pipeline in 2013 was before the huge cash influx of Q4 2013. You can directly see the change in ship design now after all that money has been gathered they increased the detail and scale. The Hangar/Dfm were all supposed to be way simpler.

Now this is one part of the reason.

The other is when you design something and put it in. Sometimes it doesn't work as you planned it. So you do some changes. This happens in all development and I am sure it happened in Elite too but Elite doesn't show stuff in development as much as Star Citizen does so you don't see it. They rather release things when they are way more finished.

Most people get confused with why we have new hangars or why we get new ship remodels. Production wise what Star Citizen was planning to be in 2013 and what it is planning to be right now have changed. 1 year ago this month Star Citizen only had 16 million dollars to develop the game. Now it has 52 million dollars.

As you can imagine that really effects your production and the quality of what you are building. Now they have nailed down their production have all things in place and you can see it from the quality of things they are bringing out.

I will be very, very surprised if the game is seamless in the end.

Well for you my word doesn't count as a thing I guess but let me tell you now. It will be seamless and what you are saying makes no sense.
